Before…
On the first day of April, we will be finishing up our study of Adam Hamilton’s book, The Way. Hamilton has taken us on a journey through much of the Holy Land, ranging from people getting baptized in the Jordan River and walking downtown in Capernaum to the streets of Jerusalem. We have deepened our faith and understanding of Jesus’ message by dwelling on how Jesus called those deemed ordinary and a few outcasts to follow him. Maundy Thursday occurs on April 2. I encourage you to join us for a service remembering the last words of Christ. Saturday, April 4 provides us with another chance to reach out to the kids in Spring Hope with the Community Easter Egg Hunt at the Depot area downtown. We need people from church to help volunteer. If you have free time between 10:30 AM and 12 PM, come on down and have some fun!
During…
Rev. Andrew Hook, along with myself and several other local pastors, will observe the annual Commu-nity Easter Sunrise Service at Spring Hope Memorial Gardens off of Webb’s Mill Road at 7 AM on Easter Sunday. It is a great time of fellowship reminding us how those women felt going to the tomb of Jesus early that first Easter morning and finding him having been resurrected from the grave. We will do something a little different on Easter Sunday at First Baptist. Everyone is asked to bring flowers to church, either cut from your yard or bought fresh. Before coming into the sanctuary for worship, place your flowers on the cross at the corner on the sidewalk. The flowers on the cross will represent the mosaic of our lives coming together to worship, as well as share the good news of God’s love with our community. Our choir will lead our service with their Easter Cantata, and we will end our service by sharing the holy meal of communion. Everyone will be encouraged to walk outside to see the “Living Cross” made of everyone’s flower offerings. It will be a day filled with opportunities to worship the risen Christ.
After…
What do we do as post-Easter Christians? One idea to share God’s love may be bringing in some of the needed items to give to the Baptist Children’s Home in Kin-ston. The home has great needs to provide for the children’s wellbeing. Another idea might be to volunteer at Faith Chris-tian Ministries. You’d be amazed at what 14 local churches working together can do for our town. Something else to think about might be planning to go to the Kennedy Home in Kinston to see first-hand what goes on at the Baptist Chil-dren’s Home by cleaning out cottages or doing landscaping. Most importantly, look within yourself to see how God is continually molding and shaping your life to follow what God is calling you to do. Each of us has so many different gifts and talents. If we use them on our own, we can do some things. But those things will never be as good as when we join together putting our gifts and talents to work as the Body of Christ. Have a blessed Easter, remembering it’s only the beginning!
Happy Easter, Kevin
