Why Servant Leadership?
• Jesus Christ • Abraham Lincoln • Mar3n Luther King Jr.
– “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
• Colleen BarreQ – President, Southwest Airlines – Insure that no grief goes unaQended; that no joy goes unshared; that each achievement is
celebrated; and that those requiring help receive it.
• Ken Melrose – Chairman & CEO, Toro – Leadership Philosophy – Move from “Profits first, to People first”
Be someone who adds value to others, not takes it away.

Servant Leaders: “Outstanding leaders go out of their way to boost the self-‐esteem of their personnel. If people believe in
themselves, it’s amazing what they can accomplish”. Sam Walton
“Servant-‐leadership is all about making the goals clear and then rolling your sleeves up and doing whatever it takes to help people win. In that situaIon, they don’t

Jim McNerney (CEO Boeing / 3M / GE / P & G)
“The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-‐that there is a geneIc factor to leadership. That’s nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders

Laws of Personal Growth – John Maxwell
• The Law of IntenHonality – Personal growth is inten3onal. You absolutely have to choose to grow on purpose, because it will not happen by accident.
• The Law of Awareness – You must know yourself in order to be able to grow.
Know your strengths and your God-‐given gins, as well as what you are passionate about, and con3nue to focus on them and develop them. This will provide the greatest return.
• The Law of Environment – You must get yourself into a growth environment to grow. Surround yourself with high performers and with people who want to grow and will challenge you. Get out of your comfort zone and focus on a posi3ve future. And spend 3me in places where the atmosphere is affirming.
