November 2014 First Bible Church Celebrates 10 years of Recovery
On Monday night, October 20th, Celebrate Recovery celebrated their 10th anniversary of ministry at First Bible Church of Decatur. The ministry of Celebrate Recovery began in the fall of 2004 with a handful of dedicated leaders and participants to help those dealing with hurts, habits, and hang-ups. For 10 years the ministry has very quietly grown adding leaders and small groups deal-ing with issues such as substance abuse, victims of abusive behavior, co-depen-dency, and life issues such as anger and marital discord.
The night was highlighted by a video featuring 33 cardboard testimonies of people that have all gone through Celebrate Recovery’s Step Study program, and who found healing by the ministry of CR. There were also 6 live testimonies from current members of the program and a special time of worship, led by Jeff Hodge. We had a great time of fellowship with around 80 leaders, participants, guests, and former participants in CR.
We encourage anyone interested in the ministry of Celebrate Recovery to attend on a Monday night. The program begins at 6:00 p.m. with a meal, large group at 6:30 p.m., and small group at 7:00 p.m., followed by dessert at 8:00 p.m. First time individuals will go to a one-time class for newcomers during small group time, to answer any questions they may have about the program. Please join us and see how God can work in your life to bring healing and spiritual maturity.

Let’s start a new tradition! Think about it. Every tradition was once an innovation. Old ways were once new ways. So let’s start something new, with a view to making it happen every year. Let’s gather our entire church family in one place and give thanks to God!
On Sunday mornings, we are distributed over four different worship services, at two different hours, in three different rooms, at two different locations. But on Sunday, November 23, the last Sunday night before Thanksgiving, we are calling our entire church family to gather in one place. And the only place we have that is large enough to do that is the auditorium at James Clemens High School.
For many years, we have had the tradition of holding the church-wide Candlelight Service at the Deca-tur Campus the Sunday evening before Christmas. Now we add the tradition of holding the church-wide Thanksgiving Service at the Madison Campus the Sunday evening before Thanksgiving.
And so we call all of our church family to come together on Sunday, November 23, at 5:15 at the Madison Campus of First Bible Church, meeting at James Clemens High School. You won’t want to miss the special night of great music, uplifting praise, and warm fellowship.
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. (Psalm 30:4)

Tenneesee Valley Outreach Update
It has been a great year at the Tennessee Val-ley Outreach! So far in 2014, TVO has averaged 21 residents per night. These residents have included men, women and moms with kids. In addition to providing a bed and three hot meals, TVO has helped 31 individuals find permanent housing and another 17 obtain employment. More importantly - through nightly devotionals, accountability and discipleship – 11 residents have placed their faith in Christ for their salvation!
As all nonprofits, TVO can always use financial support. But if you can’t support them financially, please remember them in prayer. Pray for Matt Richards (Execu-tive Director) and Denise Jones (Director of Ministries) as they minister to those in our city who have nowhere else to go.

Membership Track is a 2 part Track for anyone interested in becoming more in-
volved in the FBC church family through church membership. Attendance at Part 1 and Part 2 does not commit you to member-
ship. Rather it helps you understand our beliefs, values, direction and philosophy of First Bible Church. Attendance at Part 1 and Part 2 are required for membership. Part 1 is required before moving on to Part 2.

NOVEMBER is National Orphan Awareness Month.
All around the world, orphans are hungry, homeless, voiceless, without hope, without love. It’s not just a need that exists in a far-away place - it’s a need right here at home, too. Across America children wait in foster care for a loving family. As we celebrate adoption, foster care, and global
initiatives that reveal God’s heart, here a few ideas as we “defend the cause of the fatherless. “ Isaiah 1:17.
11 Ways ORDiNaRy PeOPle CaN lOve ORPhaNs1. Foster: Some 400,000 children live in foster care today. The experience of a loving home and relation-
ships can make a profound difference for these children. Contact ahbra Northcutt: 256-467-7740.
2. adopt: Children need families. If you’re considering adoption, start with prayer and then conversations with adoptive families and adoptees.
3. sponsorships: Sponsoring a child is more than just giving money. Your sponsored child will regard you as a gift from God and will pray for you each day as well as write letters to you. A relationship will begin that could change you and your child’s life forever! Contact Ty Batchelor: 256-303-6748.
4. Casa: Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) links foster youth with a volunteer. A CASA serves as an advocate and ally for the child as the courts determine what is best for him or her. Learn more at [email protected] Contact ahbra Northcutt- Director 256-476-7740.
5. Wrap-around support: Practical aid from the church can be hugely helpful and encouraging to foster and adoptive families. Consider household chores, yard work, shopping, giving rides, and babysitting.
6. skilled service: Put your professional skills to use in showing love to adoptive and foster families and to foster youth—from haircuts to orthodontics to car repair.
7. Fundraising: Funds help fuel ministry. Give personally and help raise money for trustworthy organiza-tions, both nearby and globally. www.lifesongfororphans.org.
8. Nungester lunch Buddy or Reading Partners: Have lunch with a child once a week to let them know they’re special. Volunteers are also needed to read with a child for 20-30 minutes once a week. You can make a profound difference for any child. Contact sherry Fite: [email protected] or 355-1861.

10. Missions Trips: Mission trips can be life changing for those who go.
11. Church Culture: Beyond formal ministry, what can make the difference for foster parents, adoptive families and mentors are the “intangibles” that make for a culture of welcome and hospitality, such as ABF teachers who grasp the unique challenges that come with wounded children, pastors who honor adoption and pray for foster youth and orphans, and people willing to invite families with special needs for BBQ.
