PRESS RELEASE

Music festival NEXT GENERATION at Grand Resort Bad RagazBad Ragaz, 7 February 2017 – Already for the seventh time, the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is host to the NEXT GENERATION festival. From 10 to 17 February 2017, around 40 international young artists from more than 20 countries will delight the guests with the sounds of classical music.

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz will be transformed into a hubof musical culture during the Festival NEXT GENERATION.

If a festival promoting young musical talents from all over the world has already successfully taken place six times, you can be sure that a team like that of the registered association Festival NEXT GENERATION will not rest on its laurels. Just the opposite: the seventh festival, held from 10 to 17 February 2017, aims at showing that it is possible to exceed the success to date with consistency and musical treats. Septets for the seventh roundThe motto according to which the programme reflects the number of years the festival has been organised, also goes for 2017. On the occasion of the seventh festival, septets will therefore be one focus of attention. Young musicians from Croatia, the Ukraine, Sweden and Germany will be playing the probably most famous septets: the Septet in Es major op.20 by Ludwig van Beethoven and the Septet in B major by Franz Berwald (1796 – 1868), the latter piece strongly reminding of Beethoven. Both works will be performed with string and wind instruments and thus provide the audience as well as the musicians with the wonderful experience of sound effects. However, “7” as a number will be a recurrent theme in the festival’s programme.

Seven piano virtuososIn 2017 you can once again experience a group of seven young pianists who will definitely make you sit up and take notice. Dmitro Choni from the Ukraine, Robert Neumann from Germany, Aurelia Shimkus from Latvia, Livyka Shtirbu-Sokolov

from Moldavia, Irina Vaterl from Austria, Arsen Dalibaltayan from Armenia and Ivan Krpan from Croatia are representatives of a young generation of pianists who – due to their excellent skills – will certainly be successful on the world’s most famous stages in the future. In Bad Ragaz you can experience them “live” and be part of their development. Extraordinary audio impressionsApart from concerts by the Ensemble ESPERANZA – chamber music performed with a small number of instruments – the Festival NEXT GENERATION will once again offer extraordinary audio impressions in 2017. The two quartets, Opus 333 from France and the Ardemus Quartet from Switzerland, will delight the audience with works for saxhorn and saxophone quartets, providing new and exciting audio experiences of some well-known works. A part of the festival programme is dedicated to “Film Music + 007”. The Swiss jazz singer Nadia Maria Endrizzi will be singing hits from James Bond movies as well as evergreens from movies that have become classics.

For the first time ever one of the festival’s concerts will take place at a different venue: on 16 February a concert focussing on orchestral works and organ will take place at the Protestant Church in Bad Ragaz.

The Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is the birthplace and venue of the festival. The intimate atmosphere allows the festival visitors to enter into an intensive musical dialogue with the artists.
