Fatigue testing is one of many tests Norner offer that can be used to predict the life time of components or screen fatigue properties of materials. The influence of heat, chemicals, different climates and UV radiation on fatigue properties can also be studied. Our InsightThe know-how and experience of our material experts combined with the flexibility of the equipment makes it possible to develop and adapt testing methods for a multitude of applications. Our fatigue testing machine can impose cyclic loads on test samples until a fatigue crack starts to grow and to final failure i.e. a S-N curve can be created. This curve illustrates how many cycles a sample can withstand at a given cyclic stress range.

Combined with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) the lifetime of components based on fluctuating stresses can be estimated. Our Facilities

FEA model of the vessel is created based on material properties and geometry.

The stress distribution in the vessel is calculated for various internal pressures.

NORNER Fatigue Testing

Several test samples are subjected to various cyclic loads until failure occurs i.e. an S-N curve is created.

The calculated tensile stresses in the vessel are compared with the stresses in the original S-N curve.The design life of the vessel can be estimated for various applied internal pressures.
