an ezine bursting with sew much inspiration

Fat Quarterly

Well it’s that time of year again. The shops are all bursting with decorations, edible treats and all manner of techno gadgets to tempt us over the festive season. The countdown to Christmas has well and truly begun.

All of us here at Fat Quarterly are firm believers in the handmade Christmas. The holiday season is the perfect opportunity to indulge in all our crafty hobbies. And there is nothing more special than a one-of-a-kind home-made gift for the special people in our lives.

And more importantly, the festive season is a great excuse to make a new Christmas theme quilt for every bed in the house! There is no such thing as over-the-top during the holidays. Drape quilts over your sofas, hang them from the walls, use them as table runners… Your house will never feel more festive than when it is dripping with quilted goodness!

In 2010 we released a Holiday Special issue that focused on small items. With that in mind we decided this year to focus on Christmas quilts. In our opinion you can never have too many Christmas quilts. There is always room for at least one more! In this issue you will find 7 quilt new quilt designs to get your creative juices flowing. Most of these quilt designs could also be made using non-Christmas fabrics for a totally different look.

But we couldn’t do an issue just on quilts. After all, what would Christmas be without a stocking to hang up for Father Christmas? We asked a panel of designers to come up with a stocking using Tinsel by Maude Asbury for Blend Fabrics. We thought we had seen all possible variations of the stocking but that was until we saw what the designers came up with!

So pour yourself a glass of your favourite festive brew and start making your to-do list. The clock is ticking. Christmas will be here before you know it.

With love from the Fat Quarterly Team
