Entering certificate data.
You should now fill in the details, working methodically from the start, taking note of the points described
below.
Text Boxes
Text boxes are plain white boxes into which alphanumeric text can be typed. The amount of text a box
contains is related to the amount of text that can be fitted into the box on the finished certificate.
On selecting a Text Box the iPad keyboard should appear
Using the Back/Next Keys
The best way to navigate from one data entry box to the next is to use the Next key on your keyboard.
After entering data in a box, pressing the Next key will send the cursor to the next text entry or dropdown
box in sequence.
You can also use Back to move back to a previous data entry box.
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 12
List Boxes
List boxes are similar to text boxes with the addition of an arrow button on the right hand side. Clicking on
the arrow displays the contents of the list box.
Use the up and down swipe action to scroll through the lists. In most cases it is possible to type in your
own entry if the selection required is not present among the items listed.
By double tapping on an item from the list, or tapping select, it is then entered in that box.
Check Boxes
Generally, Check Boxes have two states, ‘Selected’ or ‘Not Selected’. Tapping in the box changes the
previous state. When the box is empty the item associated with it is not selected. When the box contains
a tick or a cross it is selected.
Details of the Minor Works
If you need to change the date you can swipe the Day/Month/Year sections respectively.

Details of the Modified Circuit
List boxes are provided for most of the data required for the circuit protective device, residual current
device and wiring system. These List Boxes contain most of the standard selections, for example, for
Method of Protection against Direct Contact all the standard methods (ADS etc.) are listed. In the
unlikely event that you require a method not listed, you can simply type it in.
Inspection and Testing of the Modified Circuit and Related Parts
The List Boxes in this section can be used to avoid having to repeatedly type ‘N/A’ for test results that are
not applicable.

Observations
Most areas have been covered but, here is a brief explanation of the Observations section on the
Electrical Installation condition Report.
Select the following observations …(1) to allow data entry (2) and the addition/deletion (3/4).
The Code is selected from a dropdown (5) you can also tick further investigation (6).
The code count (7) is automatically updated.
Editing, Creating and Copying Boards
If an Electrical Installation Certificate or an Electrical Installation Condition Report is created for an
installation for which neither of these certificate types has been produced before, FastTest will create an
empty board as a starting point for the installation. The number of ways for the board can be changed
and also further boards can be added, as required.
On the certificate, a dropdown option will be shown, with the option to select an existing board (1) add a
board (2) Delete a board (3) Copy a board (4) or insert a board (5)
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 19
The first board will be labelled DB1, with sub headers Circuit Details, Test Results and Schedule. New
boards are automatically allocated the name DB (n+1) where ‘n’ is the total number of boards including
any hidden boards. The Circuit Details, Test Results can be displayed, by clicking on the appropriate tab.
When board details are displayed, the Boards panel is shown in the Certificate Viewer header. This
contains the following controls:
Main Board
Checking this item sets the currently selected board as the Main Board, i.e., a board connected directly to
the supply. Any number of boards in an installation can be nominated as the Main Board.
Looped Supply
Checking this item allows a number of boards to be connected to the same sub-main cable.
No. of Ways
Set the number of ways for the board.
Phases
For single phase boards, the appropriate phase can be selected. For a wholly single-phase installation and
where the phasing is not known, Single, S can be selected (this option MUST not be selected for a single-
phase board in three phase installation; instead the correct phase L1, L2 or L3 should be selected).
Add
Click on Add to create a new board. The new board will have the same phase and number of ways as the
currently selected board and be added to the end of the existing boards.
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 20
Copy
Adds a new board. The new board is identical to the current board, including circuit details. The board will be placed
at the end of the existing boards.
Delete
Deletes the current board from the current installation.
Insert
Inserts a new board immediately to the right hand side of the current board. The new board has the same
number of ways and phasing as the current board.
Re-Naming Boards
Boards can be renamed via the ‘Distribution Board Designation’ field, just tap in the field and rename the
board. This will automatically update the board dropdown.
Interconnecting Boards
For installations with multiple boards connected to a common supply, to ensure that interconnections
between boards are correctly defined, proceed as follows:
Multiple Boards connected to the Origin
Where more than one board is connected directly to the supply, each of the directly connected boards
should be defined as a Main Board, i.e., the Check Box ‘Main Board’ in the ‘Boards’ data
(displayed in the header in the Certificate Viewer) is checked.
Sub Boards connected via Sub Mains
This is a two stage process:
1. Define a suitable circuit as a Sub Main in the Circuit Details for the board feeding the Sub Board it is not
necessary to define the destination board at this stage.
2. Create the Sub Board. In the Board Details, select the previously defined Sub Main in the Supply to
Distribution Board is from list box. The two boards should now be correctly interconnected. The
Overcurrent Protective Device’ data should now be filled with the data previously entered for the Sub
Main. Also, the Sub Main Circuit designation will now contain the name of the destination board (Sub
Board).
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 21
Looped board connections
Where a number of boards are connected to a single Sub Main, this can be defined using the Looped
Supply check box in the Boards data. First define the Sub Main interconnection as described above, then
for all the other boards connected to the Sub Main, check the Looped Supply check box. The Board data
for each of the boards will now correspond to the details for the Sub Main circuit.
Boards and Circuits
General
Details of the Boards and Circuits for an installation are defined in FastTest iPad app when creating the
first Electrical Installation Certificate or Electrical Installation Condition Report for that installation. The
procedures for inputting data for the main body of the certificate are described in the sections below.
The procedures for entering board and circuit details are described in this section and are the same
whether an Electrical Installation Certificate or Electrical Installation Condition Report is being produced.
Board Data Input
For each board, the Board data is entered in the fields located at the top of the Board Tab.
For every board the Location and Designation should be entered.
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 22
For boards connected to the Origin of the Installation no other data is required. For all other boards, it is
necessary to define where the Supply to Distribution Board is From, Nominal Voltage, Overcurrent
Protective Device details and Residual Current Device details, where installed.
NOTE: The entry for Supply to Distribution Board is from can be selected only after a suitable Sub Main
circuit has been defined in another board; it cannot be typed in. When the Sub Main circuit has been
selected, the overcurrent protective device details for that Sub Main are automatically inserted in the
relevant fields. The data inputs for Residual Current Device, Operating Current, Type and No. of Poles,
will need to be completed. See Interconnecting Boards below, for details on how to create Sub Main
circuits to supply Sub Boards.
Creating and Defining Circuits
The number of ways and phases in a board are set in the Boards panel displayed in the Certificate Viewer
header (see Creating Boards above).
Where a board contains a large number of ways, swiping up and down allows the user to move up and
down the list of circuits.
To reduce the amount of typing required when entering circuit details, wherever possible List Boxes are
provided from which the necessary inputs can be selected. Inputs that have to be typed in are: Number of
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 23
points served, Overcurrent Protective Device Short-Circuit Capacity (entered automatically for standard
types) and Max. Zs (entered automatically for standard types). Where the required input does not exist in
the relevant List Box, click in the box and type in the desired text.
Defining Circuit Number and Phase
For a single phase board the phasing is fixed with one single phase circuit per way. For three phase
boards, each way is initially set as one three phase circuit (labelled x/TP, where x is the number of the
way). Alternatively, each way can be defined as three single phase circuits (x/L1, x/L2, x/L3, where x is the
number of the way).
Circuit Number and Phase
This is contained in a List Box. To change a way from a single three phase circuit to three single phase
circuits, click in the box and select a single phase circuit. The way will now be split into three single phase
circuits.
Circuit designation,
Initially, all circuits are set to “SPARE”. Where a circuit is to be defined, tap in the box and type in the
circuit designation.
When typing data into a circuit designation a new option appears on the iPad keyboard
This allows you to see and edit the full extent of this field.
Where a way is physically not available for connection within a board, select one of the following items
from the List Box as appropriate: Way Not Available, RCD Module (Split Board), RCD Module Covering. For
circuits with these designations, no further details can be entered.
Where a circuit exists within the installation, but is not to be included in the scope of the certificate (i.e.,
not tested), the designation” Circuit Not Tested” should be selected.
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 24
Note: The designation “Circuit Not Tested” applies only to the current certificate. For example, an
Electrical Installation Certificate is produced for an installation, including a circuit designated “Lighting 1st
Floor”. Subsequently an Electrical Installation Condition Report is compiled but the “Lighting 1st Floor”
circuit is not tested and therefore is designated “Circuit Not Tested”. This does not change the underlying
designation for that circuit within the installation, so that, when later, another Electrical Installation
Condition Report is carried out and the circuit is tested, its original designation “Lighting 1st Floor” is
shown for that circuit.
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 25
Sub Mains
Where a circuit is a Sub Main connecting another board in the installation, select the designation Sub
Mains and fill in the circuit details. The destination board is then defined, not in the circuit details, but in
the Board Details for the destination board. See Interconnecting Boards below.
Flood fill
Details can easily be copied up or down a whole set of fields using the column fill feature. Tapping Fill up
or Fill down on an occupied field will copy that data down the relevant column into all empty cells. This
applies to only to Circuit Details.
The Board Test Data dialog can be accessed by tapping on the Test Results tab on the right
The Zs, Ipf and RCD operating times need not be filled in where the board in question is directly
connected to the source of supply.
Trimble FastTest iPad v1.2 Page 26
Test Instruments serial numbers can be typed in where a serial number has not been previously noted.
Circuit Test Data Input
Circuit Test Data appears below the panel containing the Board Test Data and is listed in the same order
as the corresponding circuits.
