fruit fast, a water fast or a sugar-free fast, you name it.
But what many may find rather strange and intriguing is awhole nation of people; be it man or woman, old or young, rich or poor; going completely without food and drink from
dawn to dusk for a whole month
Ramadaan SINCE 1433YEARS
What really is the spirit of Ramadan?

Controlling the many negative emotions which simmer in thehuman mind and soul.
For example, among the most destructive emotions is ANGER.
Fasting helps to bring this emotion under control. ProphetMuhammad, (peace be upon him) said: When one of you isfasting, he should abstain from indecent acts and unnecessarytalk, and if someone begins an obscene conversation or tries topick an argument, he should simply tell him, I am fasting.
Likewise, the negative emotion of jealousy is reduced, as everyfasting person is reduced to the common denominator ofabstinence; no one is externally superior to another in thisregard.

The Psychological Traininghow to overcome stinginess and greed. The Prophet (peace be uponhim) was reported to have said, Allaah has no need for thehunger and the thirst of the person who does not restrainhimself from telling lies and acting on them even while
observing the fast.
In this age of immediate ENJOYMENT, when the things of the worldare used to fulfill human needs and desires almost as soon as theyhave them the ability to delay gratification is an important skill.During the fast, the believers learn patience and the benefits of it.
Overeating now bigger global problem than lack of food[18 December 2012 by Jessica Hamzelou]
Fasting gives one the opportunity to overcome the manyaddictions which have become a major part of modern life.
Food/smoking/drinks for many people, provides comfort and joyand
the ability to separate oneself from it gives the fasting people thepsychological benefit of knowing that they do have some degree ofcontrol over what they do and what they do not do.

Increasing God-consciousness
Sincere fasting purifies and atones for sin,as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, Whoever fastsRamadaan out of sincere faith and seeking his reward from God, his
previous sins will be forgiven.
Fasting is primarily between the person and God, as no one can besure that any person is actually fasting. Because of this intimateaspect of fasting, Allaah was quoted by the Prophet (peace be upon
him) as saying, Every act of Aadams descendants is forthemselves, except fasting. It is meant for Me alone, and I alonewill give the reward for it.
Fasting transforms a person from within. It restores, revives andregenerates the fasting persons spirituality and radically modifieshis or her personality and character.

Taqwa /piety is mentioned in the Quran over 250 times
"It is not righteousness that you turn your faces to the East andthe West; but righteous is he who believes in Allah and the lastDay and the angels and the Scriptures and the Prophets; andgives his wealth for the love of Him, to kinsfolk and to theorphans and the needy and the wayfarer and those who ask,and to set slaves free; and observes proper worship and paysthe poor-due. And those who keep their treaty when they makeone, and the patient in tribulation and adversity and time ofstress. Such are they who are truthful/sincere. Such are theGod-fearing." (Quran 2 : 177)
O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know oneanother. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that
(believer) who has Taqwa. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. [Quran 49:13]

Body is prison of the soul and daily activities of life are shackles?
Spiritual and secular world are separate with drawl from theworld full of injustice and tyranny and go for solitary places ofspiritual hybernation?
You Cannot separate body and the soul development
The real place for development of the spirit is in the midst of lifeand through FASTING we can achieve that balance.

WHAT DOES 'ISLAM' MEAN?
The Arabic word'Islam' simply means
'submission', and derives from a word meaning
'peace'. In a religious context it means
complete submission to the will of God.
'Mohammedanism' is thus a misnomer because it
suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad rather
than God. 'Allah' is the Arabic name for God,
which is used by Arab Muslims and Christians
alike.

AUTHENTICITY OF THE QUR'AN
The Qur'anis a record of the exact words revealed by
God through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet
Muhammad. It was memorized by Muhammad and then
dictated to his Companions, and written down by scribes,
who cross-checked it during his lifetime.
Not one word of its 114 chapters, Suras, has been
changed over the centuries, so that the Qur'an is in every
detail the unique and miraculous text which was revealed
to Muhammad fourteen centuries ago. All over the world,
when muslims read their holy book, they are all reading
the same book.
The carbon-dating of a folio from this manuscript from
TASHKENT-Uzbekistan, was carried out at Oxford . The
result showed 95% probability of a date between 595 CE
and 855 CE.

WHAT IS THE QUR'AN ABOUT?
The Qur'an, the last revealed Word of God, is the prime source ofevery Muslim's faith and practice. It deals with all the subjectswhich concern us as human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, andlaw, but its basic theme is the relationship between God and Hiscreatures. At the same time it provides guidelines for a just society, proper human conduct and an equitable economic system.
2:2 This is the book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah.

Equali ty of Hum an Beings
O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not
that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the
sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full
knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things) (49:13).
This has been exemplified by the Prophet in one of his sayings thus:
"No Arab has any superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab
have any superiority over an Arab. Nor does a white man have any
superiority over a black man, or the black man any superiority over the white
man. You are all the children of Adam, and Adam was created from clay"

The Right to L ife
The first and the foremost basic right is the right to live and respect human life. The
Holy Quran lays down: Whosoever kills a human being without (any reason like)
man slaughter, or corruption on earth, it is as though he had killed all mankind"And whoever saves a life it is as though he had saved the lives of all mankind"
(5:32).
The Right to a Basic Standard o f Life
Speaking about the economic rights the Holy Quran enjoins upon
its followers:
And in their wealth there is acknowledged right for the needy and destitute.

The Right to J ust ice
O YOU who have attained to faith! Be ever steadfast in your devotion to God,
bearing witness to the truth in all equity; and never let hatred of any-one lead you
into the sin of deviating from justice. Be just: this is closest to being God-
conscious. And remain conscious of God: verily, God is aware of all that you do.
(5:8)
"You who believe stand steadfast before God as witness for (truth and) fairplay"
(4:135).
This makes the point clear that Muslims have to be just not only with ordinary
human beings but even with their enemies. In other words, the justice to whichIslam invites her followers is not limited only to the citizens of their own
country, or the people of their own tribe, nation or race, or the
Muslim community as a whole, but for all the human beings of the world.
