ShowcaseThis magazine celebrates the diversity, imagination and talent of Year 1, 2 and 3 students studying the BA (Hons) Fashion Graphics degree at Southampton Solent University. The course is unique within the UK and is designed to train and prepare students for work within the creative arts and, in particular, the fashion and graphic design industries. Students are encouraged to question and challenge the design process and to find their own creative identity and focus.

The course is very closely linked to industry practice, with work placements and live projects a major feature of the degree programme. Companies such as GAP, Heat Magazine, Jean-Paul Gaultier, John Lewis, Urban Outfitters, Ted Baker, Alberta Ferretti, Company Magazine, Mudpie, ILOVEDUST, Good Fibres, Illamasqua and Lulu Guinness have all provided either work experience placements for students or contributed knowledge and expertise to the teaching schedule.

The students have access to the very latest technology and equipment, including digital and fabric printers, photography equipment and studios and well-equipped design suites and workshops.

Career choices after graduation are wide and varied. Recent graduates have found work opportunities in the fields of graphic design, advertising, publishing, branding, digital design, styling, print and illustration.

ApplyBA (Hons) Fashion Graphics at Southampton Solent UniversityAre you are looking for a challenging, exciting and life-changing experience? Then why not consider enrolling as a student on the BA (Hons) Fashion Graphics course?

Course overview This highly creative degree allows you to focus on fashion and graphic design disciplines. The course is designed to allow you to develop and nurture your creative and artistic skills. Through expert tuition and guidance you will learn how to apply your talents to exciting industry-relevant projects. You will learn graphic design, photography, digital and web design, branding, marketing and design theory and, in your final year, you will embark on a major project that will be as unique and individual as you are. Example areas of study:

Year One: Design in Context, Digital Design, Introduction to Typography, Image ConstructionYear Two: Trend Graphics, Interactive Media, Branding and Identity, Fashion In ContextYear Three: Final Major Project, Conceptual Practice/Work-Based Learning, Dissertation

EmployabilityThe emphasis of the Fashion Graphics course is on employability and developing skills that are relevant to the creative industry. Additionally, students across all years are given the opportunity to become involved in work experience and live projects with fashion industry partners. This year, students are working on live projects in conjunction with Top Man, Fat Face, All Walks Beyond the Catwalk, Mudpie and ILOVEDUST. Guest speakers are a regular part of the degree programme and offer their own experiences of working in fashion and advice on how the students should forge their own career pathways. In the past year such speakers have included Caryn Franklin (TV presenter and i-D editor), Alex Brownless (Artsthread), The Paper Eaters (fine artists and designers) and National Magazines CEO, Terry Mansfield.

Course length: 3 yearsUCAS code: W293Entry level: 240 points from A Levels or equivalent qualifications.Mature applicants may be considered based on relevant experience, without having the required tariff points. UK applicants are expected to attend a portfolio viewing. Overseas and EU applicants will be requested to send in an electronic portfolio-CD.
