From customised capes to iconic bags created in your name, custom designer couture is usually saved for the stars. But this season Burberry is offering the rest of us the chance to experience the VIP treatment in the form of customised pieces. Launched last week, The Scarf Bar is a new personalisation service from the brand available in stores and online. The service allows you to create a personal monogram embroidered on your choice of iconic Burberry check in custom thread colours and in a choice of sizes. But look out, too, for a distinct mark of modernism in the season’s accessories: sophisticated silhouettes and an underlying utilitarianism to temper the excess. Perfect geometry is the penchant of the season’s jewellery along with dainty chains with distinctive pendants. When it comes to rings, forego the rose gold of a few seasons ago and look for statement silver pieces with oversized stones and enhanced filigree details. Combine multiple pieces together for a distinctly folky feel – layer long necklaces and style several rings per hand. On the runway, furry feet from the likes of Gucci have been the source of much hilarity here in the office, but with designers such as Fendi and Maison Margiela offering similar styles it looks like the trend really has got a footing. For a more wearable alternative (which, unlike Gucci’s goat hair slippers, doesn’t require regular blow dries), opt for a simple ponyskin flat.
