datingeditor’s note

t's a new year and I am sticking to my goals this time around! In fact, as I write this I'm nursing some sore muscles, as I ran my first 10K the other morning. Running an organized race has been a New Year's resolution of mine for the

last two years. It was something that is out of my comfort zone and would leave me feeling accomplished, but two years later it still had not been checked off my list.

If any of you know me even just a little, I love running — so why is running a race out of my comfort zone? Just the thought of hundreds of people running with me at the same time had always intimidated me. Kind of silly, right? We

all have our things and now I get to welcome February having already followed through with the one New Year's resolution I have always found a way to wiggle out of. Each success builds on the last one and with that I know 2012 is going to be the year that I can say, "I did it."

Whether you entered the new year in a relationship or out, we have some great suggestions for you on how to spend your February 14 this year. Our eight Anti-Valentine's Day Ideas found on pg. 10 are full of fun and creative things to do with your girlfriends. And if you're hoping to not be single for long, make sure you check out our interview with the Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti Stanger (pg.12), to see what she has to say.

This new year has already been a big reminder to me of how I want to make each day of my life count. I want to fill my days with things that help better me and that I am passionate about. This wakeup call came in the first week of January as my boyfriend had to undergo an emergency spinal-neck surgery. Thankfully, all went well and these last several weeks of his recovery have been precious, slowing our lives down and influencing a new perspective.

January flew by and this month will, too. Before this whole year completes itself, I encourage all of you to try something new. Explore the things you are passionate about and live inspired. It is so easy to fall away from the goals that you set for the new year, so I encourage you to make February your month to check things off and be able to say to yourself, "I did it."

Before Keilani Asmus started modeling, she worked at Hollister in Brea, California. Her district manager sent her to an A&F casting, which led her to sign with No Ties here in San Diego. According to Asmus, "Working with the Fashion 5.0 team was an amazing experience, they all had a ton of positive en-ergy and were fantastic at their jobs. It was a lot of fun shooting with James Norton, considering he has this vision that not many photographers have."

Pol Santos is a portrait and event photographer based out of San Diego, California. His passion for capturing personality in every photo has lead to a quick ascent in the industry. In regards to the San Diego Power Players feature this month, he stated, "I knew I would be shooting some of the top people in the industry. Because of everyone’s hectic schedule, I was concerned about the limited time I’d have. Everyone came in with their their 'A' game and I got some great shots. I’m really satisfied."

bONuS TIP: Most local yoga studios offer a no-commitment free trial to new members, so find a studio near you and try before you buy!

Known for her progressive approach and inspirational

teaching style, you may find Katie on stage at one of the nation's big Yoga Festivals, leading a Yoga retreat or teacher training in paradise or in the comfort of your own home on Gaiam TV.

Katie's introduction to yoga arose as a resource for rehabilitation from serious injuries sustained during her seven-year career as a professional snowboarder and she has been a dedicate d practi-tioner since 1999.

Currently based in the spar-kling San Diego surf enclave of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California, Katie serves as the Director of Teacher Trainings at Haute Yoga, leads workshops and works with private clients from high-profile Olympians, professional athletes and celebrities to students in her weekly classes. By katie Brauer, e-ryt

In the last ten years the practice of yoga has gone mainstream. Contemporary devotees range from professional athletes and celebrities to high-powered execs and soccer moms, all of whom have embraced this multi-faceted physical and spiritual tradition. With over 16 million Americans now flocking to their yoga mats regularly, it is clear that it has fast become an increasingly important part of our culture.

CoURTESY oF EPIC PHoTo JoURNALISM

Many are initially drawn to yoga for the physical benefits and as a way to keep fit. If you land in a class before a skillful teacher, it's almost guar-anteed your life will take some major shifts as you cultivate a deeper self-understanding and expanded awareness. These changes are not limited to your body and will extend to your rela-tionships, your actions and the way in which you move through the world. The practice of yoga of-fers us the opportunity for deep inquiry and as we become more attuned and aligned the prac-tice shifts from an activity to a lifestyle.

Southern California serves as an epicenter of yoga with a yoga studio on every block, so where should you go? What style should you choose? And how do you find a teacher?

As you set out on your yoga quest try a begin-ner's class or an alignment class to get familiar with the basic poses. From there you can branch out to try different styles of yoga. It's helpful

to create a list that prioritizes your needs. Are you looking to relax and reset amidst the storm of overstimulation through a slow meditative, breath-focused practice, or do you want to sweat your way to greater health?

Paramount to the style or the studio is the qual-ity of the teacher. The right teacher can make all the difference between whether you love yoga or never do it again. Like the perfect date, finding the right yoga instructor is like finding a four-leaf clover, so don't give up until you find someone you really resonate with. Try as many classes and instructors as necessary, ask around for recom-mendations from people you respect and let it be an exploration instead of a burden.

Once you've found your home and a teacher to guide you, relax into the flow of breath and movement and enjoy the bounty of benefits that yoga offers.

fuN facT: Cinépolis developed its luxury experience in 1999 and has ventured into other countries, but San Diego is its first american presence.

echnology meets luxury at Cinépolis, a movie theater experience like none other. Cozy up with that special someone, a tasty cocktail and some black and white chocolate "zebra" popcorn as your favorite actors take center stage. Since

the spacious leather chairs are reserved ahead of time, finding great seats together is a thing of the past! Lay back and put your feet up on the plush electric recliner. Lift the armrest and you and your beau have your own loveseat for some romantic cuddling.

Arrive in the brightly lit lounge at Ci-népolis to chat with pals over a bottle of wine and paninis on a Saturday af-ternoon. Decide you want to catch a flick but don't know what's playing or forgot to reserve online? No big-gie, trailers of the latest offerings are available for viewing before purchase on a self-service touch screen at the concierge desk.

As show time approaches and you get settled into your seat allow yourself to relax and be pampered by a theater waiter, at your call by a handy service button on your armrest. Cinemas one and two are 21 and older and allow guests to order from an expansive menu of beer, wine and cocktails dur-ing the movie. The full menu of ap-petizers, sushi and desserts can be ordered whenever the craving arises (crab cakes with Sriracha aioli AND Mark Wahlberg? Yes, please!).

Comfort and extravagance are in no short supply at Cinépolis in Del Mar, one of several theaters in the chain to open along the California coast. With the theater's top shelf cocktails, tasty menu and lavish seating there may not be a better place for your next date night.

PaTTi sTaNGer MILLIONAIRE MATCHMAKER

your bio says you are a third-generation matchmaker. Who in your family was involved with matchmaking and how?My mother and grandmother were matchmakers in New Jersey for the temple. My grandmother got my mother married twice. They did it for free, a mitzvah and blessing. I don't have a hus-band so unfortunately I have to charge.

What first got you started in the world of matchmaking and giving love advice?I ran Great Expectations in Florida and learned the business side of it. I always did it as a kid but I really did it profession-ally, for real, with business in mind and then I opened my own business. It came from both sides, family and business.

What is the best relationship advice someone has given you?My mother. "Whether you're 18 or 80, there's always another man around the corner." Demi Moore should pay attention on that one, because he's [Ashton Kutcher] not all that.

do you apply all your dating tips and techniques to your personal life?Yeah but I break them too. I've broken my two drink maximum, I've slept with a guy on a first date, I've done it all and I have to do it all in order to practice to see if it works. A lot of them had to do with my grandmother's rules but then they were dated, so I had to modify them for this generation of sexting and texting. You know things are not like how they were when we were grow-ing up. It's a really rough time. It's a very disposable society, for instance if you don't like someone you basically can get on the Internet and meet somebody else in ten minutes. There's no loyalty anymore.

how was it being owner and president of Millionaire's club International at such a young age?I started at 37 or 38, I don't think that was really young to own the company. I think I should have started younger. I think we need to teach in the school systems, especially the universities level, that women can run their own company and its not a man's world. We multitask and get the s--- done faster. I didn't know I could own my own company, it was default.

I moved out to California when Silicon Valley was blowing up. All my friends were hot, we'd go out in a posse, we'd see a cute guy or a millionaire, he wouldn't know how to dress or have the right car or know how to get from point A to point B. Google nerds were coming down every seven seconds and we became friends with them.

interViewiNterview By HeatHer Butler

I realized I was doing this full-time on the weekends, helping my friends, and I wasn't getting paid for it and my mother said charge them. It was really to get me out of credit card debt, because I had just moved across the country. I was a film major back in the day.

Next thing you know it took off, reality was on the map, and that's when the whole world changed. So it wasn't like I planned it. I would have been a screenwriter living in the Palisades with my two kids and my husband.

It is an innate God-given gift to match. If you can read people, you can match. If you always are fixing your friends up and they hit it off, get married or move in together, then you have a natural gift. You should express it and you can become a matchmaker. Someone said to me today, "What's the number one thing I should major in college to become a matchmak-er?" and I said psychology, because psychology really teaches how to access things.

you've recently transformed yourself, losing over 20 pounds. any health, weight loss or fitness tips? Well I use Sensa and I would live on Sensa. It has changed my life, I've lost 30 pounds on it, and I'm a size 2/0. The Dolce lookbook just came today from my rep and I was told pick what you want. Last week I tried on a dress from Dolce and I had to take it in! That's how you know you're skinny, I'm not kidding.

I just got a membership to Equinox, it hasn't opened yet in Marina del Rey and I said once it opens, I'll go. You know, I haven't hit the gym, I've got to admit it, I haven't had the time, so I do the pre-core, I walk a little, I live on the beach, you know I'm a beach girl, but I have to be honest with you, it's the food in your diet.

The other thing is that I'm gluten free. I had terrible head-aches and migraines, throughout my whole life I'd suffered from headaches. Then I read about Jenny McCarthy talking about her son having headaches with Autism and that avoid-ing gluten helped and I thought maybe there was a connection with the gluten and my headaches. I got on to a gluten-free diet about a year and a half ago and it's changed my life. I have more energy and I think it's helped me lose weight, too.

I just did my nude photo shoot with Randee St. Nicholas, which will be released in the next two weeks. You'll see how dramatic my weight loss has been. You know, I'm 50 and I'm single and that was part of the process because I have to lose weight to get the guy.

don't be too PiCKyUpon entering the world of dating, many people analyze what they want in a potential partner. Though I myself am a firm believer in having high standards, it's important that your standards are reasonable. According to love guru Patti Stanger, "Most people can't find love because they're too picky, they overanalyze and they find things wrong in people." Stanger calls these people flaw finders. There is defi-nitely a difference between giving constructive criticism and being overly nitpicky with every small detail.

Consider the 3 C'sStanger says chemistry, compatibility and communication are vital components to successful dating. "Does he make your heart pound and toes curl?" asks Stanger. "As long as you think he's cute and you have fun with him, he's a contender." Compatibility basically means that your routines mesh, you enjoy doing the same things and you want the same things at the same time. When it comes to communication, consideration is the key. According to Stanger, it's not an issue of whether or not you have a difference of opinions, what's important is how you resolve those differences.

don't baggage dumPApart from the initial impression, nothing is as important as the first date. You can discover a lot about a person and your chemistry as a couple based on that first encounter. Stanger says that one of the biggest mistakes women make on the first date is what she calls baggage dumping. This involves talking about an ex or what went wrong in a previous relationship. "You think it's innocent, but it monopolizes the conversation...you no longer feel special to that person, nor does he to you," Stanger explains.

manners matterSure, we've all heard that phrase from our parents growing up, but manners really do make a good impression. "The key to a good date is to smile. Engage with eye con-tact. Let him lead and then you compliment little things along the way," says Stanger.

Clearly, people are running around in circles trying to find the secrets to successful dating. Finding the formula to meeting that perfect mate is not necessarily as com-plicated as it may seem. Consider the wise words from the experts as well as advice from the people that know you best. For what it's worth, here’s one final tip.

Travis lubinsky (on left) and Trevor Jones (on right) created the ever-popular flex Watches in March of 2011. Shortly after generating the idea, the two launched a web-

site and the company began to grow. "The original goal was to raise awareness through the colorful products," says Lubinsky. "We get donations for different organizations to give

them publicity. Now we support and work with eleven charities and have 1,200 campus representatives to help create awareness." The tipping point of the company's growth was

when MTV decided to jump on board and partner with Flex Watches on The Real World San Diego. Lubinsky and Jones joined efforts with The Real World's Nate stodghill (in cen-ter) and designed the light blue Flex Watch specifically for The living memoir, the charity

he created to raise awareness of suicide. Flex Watches is growing rapidly and coming out with new products and styles that can be found at www.flexwatches.com.

stingaree, located on 6th Avenue in the heart of the Gaslamp, stands out from other competing nightclubs because it is constantly keeping up with the latest trends. Stingaree is

known to attract celebrities and high-profile athletes and will ensure a great night spent downtown. shane brennan (on left), one of Stingaree’s managing partners, is also the head

of the VIP department. michael mcshane (on right), the marketing manager at Stingaree, is also a big component of the team. McShane has worked with amazing talent through the

years and has booked performers such as Lil Wayne, Mickey Avalon and Nadia Ali.

2525FEBRUARY 2012 //

{Shane Brennan } {Michael McShane}how did Stingaree get started in San diego? After the successful launch of the original Side Bar, we knew that San Diego was hungry for its first mega club / big city experience. The city was growing and changing and people were ready for it. We built it, and they came!

What is your role in the day-to-day operations? In addition to being one of Stingaree’s managing partners, I run the VIP depart-ment and lend much of my time to both the marketing department and day-to-day operations.

Tell us about enlightened hospitality Group (ehGRP). What else does your company have going on?EHGRP is the umbrella company for Stingaree and the new social dining concept that includes Searsucker, Burlap, Gingham and the upcoming additions Gabar-dine in Point Loma and Herringbone in La Jolla.

how has the business landscape in San diego changed over the last five years, and how has this affected your company? There is much more competition in the city now. San Diego went from having five nightclubs five years ago to close to 15 today. Everyone is competing for the same pool of people in a very uncertain economic climate. Stingaree stands out amongst the others because we are constantly keeping up with the latest trends in the industry while maintaining the four-star service that we’ve been known for since day one.

do you play a role at other enlightened properties or is your focus completely on Stingaree? My main role lies primarily within Stingaree but I do have involvement with some aspects of the other EHGRP properties, helping out where needed.

With the nightlife scene changing ever so quickly, most clubs change name and ownership often. how has Stingaree lasted so long and how do you keep it relevant moving forward? We try to stay ahead of the curve with our fingers on the pulse by throwing the coolest events, booking the hippest talent and keeping the property fresh. We’ve recently remodeled The Rooftop Oasis and launched GuestHouse, a party that San Diego has never seen before. On top of all of that, we’re a passionate team that loves what we do and deliver an unparalleled level of service to our clients.

When you are not working, how do you spend your free time?I relax and hang out with friends, family and my new dog Choco!

do you have any shout outs?Shout out to the Stingaree staff for consistently delivering the best service in the city and being so innovative and creative each and every day!

how did you get involved in the nightlife scene in San diego? It began at the Ivy Hotel, it was kind of on accident. I took a job at the front desk having recently moved from Ireland and then a position opened up in the Ivy’s marketing department. Since then I haven’t looked back.

Speaking of Guesthouse day club, how did it get started and what should we expect from it this month? We are constantly looking to throw crazy and original parties. We saw a nation-wide trend of party brunches happening in other cities and we decided to launch our own with a San Diego spin. GuestHouse Day Club is less about the food and more about the party.

What kind of talent have you worked with recently? In the last year we’ve had some great talent and performers come through Stinga-ree and GuestHouse including Lil Wayne, Hyper Crush, Wynter Gordon, Mickey Avalon and most recently, the best live performer I’ve ever seen in a nightclub, Nadia Ali.

how has the nightlife landscape changed over the last couple years? It is so competitive these days. People have so many options for places to go out. You have to stay ahead of the curve and give people a reason to come to your venue.

how does someone get a job in your industry? Is there a good starting point?People think working in this industry is all about partying and having a good time. It is to an extent but like anything else, hard work is required if you want to be successful. Events don’t just happen and nightclubs don’t just fill themselves up on their own. Having a great work ethic and a passion for the industry is a good start. Also, there are lots of opportunities with internships and entry-level positions.

Night access, headed by matt Gerold, is the leader among several other promotion companies in San Diego. Gerold’s inventive creations include the ability to watch live feeds of

parties as they happen. Night Access showcases parties on their website so club attendees can view their pictures from

previous events. This revolutionary concept enables people to see what events are going on in San Diego and allows you to

add yourself to the guest list with the click of a button.

Page 27: Fashion 5.0 February 2012

27FEBRUARY 2012 // 27

When did you create Night access? We started Night Access at the end of 2008.

how did you initially come up with the idea to create Night access?Working in nightclubs for years, I wanted to create a business in which I was able to work for myself and the venue and the people. Owning a produc-tion company allows me to be my own boss, work with the venues directly and have the opportunity to create different types of events at top venues, thus allowing our guests to have a different experi-ence each night of the week.

What is a typical day of work like for you?I attend meetings with club owners and managers, meet with my employees, meet with colleagues that own other production companies and book talent, artists and events. I usually do this weeks or some-times months in advance. I am continually taking phone calls and sending and receiving hundreds of emails throughout the entire week. Keeping people entertained and wanting to come enjoy a night out on the town takes a lot of planning, it’s not just the execution. The day or night of the event I usu-ally like to go and enjoy the fruits of my labors. Sometimes I have to take performers or artists out to dinner, but usually I try to have everything pre-pared ahead of time so I can enjoy the event that Night Access created.

What nightclubs does Night access showcase and partner with?Right now we’re doing weekly events with Voyeur, Stingaree, Bar West, Hard Rock and on Sunday days, GuestHouse Day Club. In March we’ll be working with the Light Group doing our annual Spring Fling in Las Vegas. We’re directly connect-ed with all venues in San Diego so when clients email us, we're able get them on VIP guest lists and reserve tables for VIP bottle service.

What gave you the idea for the revolutionary concept to enable people to see what events are going on in San diego and to add them-selves to guest lists at various nightclubs?Being in this industry for a while I’ve encoun-tered people who just want a quick and easy way of finding out what is going on and how they can get hooked up. That’s why we made Night-Access.com super easy to use and incorporated a guest list addition feature. We wanted the site to do four things – inform people about events going on, allow them to easily get on the guest list to avoid a cover charge, show them event photos and videos and give them a site where they can ask for help setting up anything they desire. Whether it’s for a birthday or gradua-tion, or to book a limo or dinner reservations or hotel rooms in Vegas. We get emails all the time where we act as a personal concierge to all of our clients.

What nightclubs do you work with the closest?I’m friends with most of the managers and club owners at the venues that Night Access currently works with – Johnny, Farley and Nick from Voyeur; Turk, Shane and Demien from Stinga-ree; Chris and Reidy from Bar West and Andy, Joe and Justin from Hard Rock.

What is the biggest thing you aim to contribute to the San diego industry with Night access? Our biggest goal is to make our clients and pa-trons happy and create the best events possible for people to enjoy.

What is a motto you live by?I have a few. "I'm here for a good time, not a long time, although I'd like to be." And, "the more you lie, the more you have to remember."

What event put on by Night access most stands out to you?We try to make each and every event better than the last. This last year we produced two larger events, one on Halloween called Halloweird and an event on New Year’s Eve. We booked Minnesota on Halloween and Love And Light on NYE. These events were awesome and we brought some DJs and producers to San Diego that made for two amazing events. Of course our favor-ite event is our Spring Fling in Vegas in March. We were the first company in San Diego to do all-girls Vegas trips and we still think our trips are the best. We take pride in what we do. Often imitated, never duplicated.

how are you putting San diego on the map?I think that this is happening from a col-lective movement by the people that live in this beautiful city, the venues that are being created to entertain the crowds and all the production companies like Night Access that are putting awesome events together. San Diego is really stepping its entertainment game up and Night Access is proud to be a part of it.

do you have any shout outs?Travis Kohler, Mike Land, Ryan Kane, Ryan Anderson, Michael Benjamin, Pol Santos, Pierce Bryce, Oliver Lang, Todd Erwin, Norton, Ben Decamp, Aaron Griv-er, Ashley D, Sara Leal, Andrew Nelson and everyone who supports Night Access. Also a big shout out to Morgan from Fash-ion 5.0. Keep up the good work!

The forwardJohNNy shoCKey

Former professional hockey player Johnny shockey switched gears and became a major player in San Diego's nightclub industry. When everyone was playing Top 40 and hip hop music at nightclubs, Shockey thought outside the box and was one of the first to focus largely on house music. This new trend in music continues to snowball and is growing in popularity. The club owner has made voyeur one of San Diego's hottest clubs and is highly credible in the EDM world.

THE FORWARD

Johnny Shockey

What made you decide to switch gears from playing hockey to getting into San diego’s nightclub industry?I always felt like I was into electronic music and there seemed to be a void in the San Diego market. We had the idea of opening a bar, then that idea evolved into doing a nightclub with strictly electronic music.

how was the transition from being a professional athlete to being a major figure in the nightclub industry? There are actually a lot of similarities between the two. Through-out the hockey career you meet so many people and have to deal with so many different situations. It teaches you how to get to know people quickly, whether it’s your teammates or people you just meet in different cities. You have to learn to adjust quickly and it’s the same in the nightclub industry. It’s like a team where everyone has their role.

What are your hopes or expectations for Voyeur this year? There’s a lot of potential to grow and do more cool new shows. As we do bigger events big performers will come as favors and because they want to, which makes it very special. There will be some changes in the club and we will be bringing in more cut-ting acts.

how did you come up with Led Presents? We just realized that as dance music started to grow, we could grow with them and show Voyeur that we’re bigger or pass those relationships up and let someone else handle them. So we went for it. It started organically at Wave House in Pacific Beach and from there we got a little braver. We now have the guts to do the big shows. The pressure is on with these deals since hundreds of thousands of dollars are invested in a one-shot deal. Now we work with Live Nation and did Identity, a huge event in Septem-ber featuring Kaskade, Pretty Lights and Afrojack along with many others. LED Presents is having its big anniversary party at Sports Arena on February 19.

do you plan on opening any more nightclubs in the future? We are currently opening a place in Los Angeles. My buddies out there called me and asked if I wanted to get involved with that. But we are more focused on throwing more big events and throw-ing cool after parties at Voyeur than opening new clubs.

do you have any shout outs? It’s really about the team that we have, not about me. We have so many qualified guys that pull their weight, which makes it all successful. There are so many moving parts to putting on these big events that it’s not fair for any one person to take credit for it.

29FEBRUARY 2012 // 29

What gave you the idea to start the company? We created the company to inspire change. Similar to the pro-social causes of TOMS Shoes and Crocs we decided it would be fun to raise awareness through the sale of brightly colored products. Once we found the watch, we knew it was time to make our dream a reality.

What are consumers’ favorite things about flex Watches?Travis: Consumers love the fact that they can purchase a fun product, and help a charity that they are passionate about.Trevor: The motto amongst our fans has become “flex your style, flex your cause.”

What are your hopes for flex this year?Travis: This year we hope to donate about $100,000 and raise more awareness for our participating charities.

how have you and the campus representatives teamed up to create awareness for the charities?Travis: We have created a campus rep program with about 1,200 students across the nation. With the help of these students we are able to raise awareness for our charities through grassroots marketing campaigns and social media marketing.

What was the tipping point of the company’s success?Travis: The tipping point of our success would be the national debut of Flex Watches on MTV.

how did Nate Stodghill and MTV come into play? Travis: That day was the beginning of a long summer filled with emotional highs and lows for us. Over the course of two months, we began to work every day with a mission to help Nathan raise awareness for suicide prevention. The first and most obvious idea shared amongst the three of us was to create a Flex Watch that would represent suicide aware-ness. After a few more meetings, we decided that light blue would represent Nate’s cause the best. This is when the real ideas began to flow.

(CoNT. from PaGe 23)

get the story behind the brands

Fashion 5.0 video interaction

What was it like to be on The Real World?Nate: Being on The Real World was quite an experience. From the very first day I could tell it wasn't what I expected. From the fantastic times to the arduous trials you experience in life, it was, overall, a life-changing experience I will always be grateful for. It's funny because everybody thinks that it is all glitz and glam, when in actuality it's quite the opposite. There's no script, no set, no director – just isolation and real life. You don't go on to become famous after a reality television show like The Real World, which is why I decided to exploit my fifteen minutes of fame to change the world. What gave you the idea to create The Living Memoir?Nate: Growing up I had dealt with numerous suicides, from family to friends, from health issues to social, you name it really. Having gone through this experience a number of times, I had to live, and relive, the collapse and turmoil a suicide causes to a family and to a community. So coming on the show, I knew I just wanted to tell my story to the world. In my opinion, suicide is preventable. After having met Trevor and Travis, the lightbulb came on. I now had the final piece in complet-ing the puzzle.

What is your biggest goal for The Living Memoir this year?Nate: You know I get asked this question a lot, and quite frankly my goal for TLM, and life-long dream, has already been achieved – to save someone's life. It's pretty extraordinary what we've done with TLM. I remember the first letter I received was from a mother thanking me that her daughter was still with her today. I collapsed. I now knew that this was real, I did help save someone's life, this can be stopped.

At that moment I was overwhelmed with gratitude for those who actually made my dream a reality. Since then, we get numerous messages daily telling us how we've changed lives, how we have changed the world. As far as attainable goals, though, I'd say to reach one million page views – we're at 300,000 plus now – and to land a commercial retailer to carry our clothing line.

do you have any shout outs?Trevor: Special thanks to our business partners and staff who make everything possible. Nate: Big thanks to the Lubinsky family for taking me under their wing and providing me with a place to stay so I can pursue my dream. Brad Lubinsky for being the big brother I never knew I needed. Of course Trevor and Travis, for turning a small idea of mine into a reality. I want to extend a thank you to Matt Hartless, TLM's designer, DJ Erik Till, TLM's accountant, Andrew Benner, TLM's Logistics VP, everyone with Consuul, LLC, and everyone at Flex Watches. Big shout out to the people of San Diego for being more than supportive, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I want to thank Morgan with Fashion 5.0 for giving me this interview. I want to say thank you to National Suicide Prevention Lifeline for their professional site moderation and allowing our users to access their call centers across America (1-800-273-TALK).

bONuS TIP: For the ultimate cold buster, add double the turmeric and ginger to your raw soup.

What is the Raw Soup Diet? It is a diet I developed unexpect-edly while a colleague of mine was out visiting the island of Kauai where I lived for a couple months. He is the healthiest raw food vegan that I have met to date and is a raw food chef that carries a lot of weight. He would make a raw soup for breakfast every morning and would always serve me one. It was warm, creamy, full of flavor…and green! I started hav-ing this soup every morning and I immediately noticed I had energy, wasn’t really hungry for lunch and would usually just snack and would sometimes even have a decadent dinner.

Within a month I had lost ten pounds. I didn’t even think about it until someone asked what I was doing to lose weight. When my colleague left I formed my own recipe and kept the practice going and my body is keeping the weight off. I now have ten patients on the Raw Soup Diet and they have all seen weight loss, but most importantly they are feeling the best that they have in years.

Food is the ultimate medicine and when you start eating more me-dicinally you will truly be amazed by how you feel. I give all of my pa-tients that are ready what I call the “one week challenge,” where they commit to eating more medicinally for one week to experience how different they feel. I haven’t had one patient go back to their old pattern of eating. Challenge your-self to do something different, it just might change your life.

Avoid using perfume-heavy deodorants and sprays post-sweat until you’ve had the chance to properly rinse or you’ll run the risk of clashing odors.

3 Just as scents can invigorate a person, they can just as easily calm. Seasoned fitness-goers know that a long, hot bath is essential to relieving aching, tired muscles after a strenu-ous workout. To maximize your bath time, lush created fizzy o’therapy, a signature “bath bomb” made of ginger, cloves, cinnamon and coriander to help you unwind in addition to sooth-ing tense and sore muscles.

5 Looking for something to treat yourself to on your days off? Why not splurge on today’s favorite perfumes. One of our favorites is dolce & gabbana’s light blue, which has an array of complimentary smells like Sicilian citron, Granny Smith apple, jas-mine, white rose, amber and musk to create a lively and feminine scent. What is one piece of advice you would give to college students? No more naked party, no more rainbow parties. Do you know what those are? Make him take you to dinner whether it's pizza and a movie, beer at the bar, I don't give a s--- if he takes you to the Olive Garden or McDonald's. He has to spend money to take you out.

Get off campus when you go out so it's romantic, so you don't have the college simulation and other people knowing your business. If he can't take you out, he's not your guy. He's never going to be husband material, because he's a latent adolescent, which would take 20 years to cure. So a guy who's really the guy probably has a job in college, he's probably studying really hard, maybe he's in sports, maybe he's on a team. And he's an independent thinker. He's an entrepreneur in his own mind, which means he doesn't go with the pack. He might be a loner, he might have one friend and he may not be with 25 people. The quick situation does not help you in college. Those who travel in packs do not attract. The more you do things alone – go to the library by yourself, go to the student union by yourself, maybe you're looking at the flyers – the more likely you smile, you signal, you find the guy.

What would you say are some of the best places in San diego to meet people? The Hard Rock is amazing. I spent New Year's Eve there. I had the best time. I love that there's no gambling or smoking. I don't see why you can't, especially in the summer, go in the pool and get a cocktail. I'm a big fan of L'Auberge in Del Mar on Friday nights or Saturday nights. Cardiff, I love that area on the beach, that's so me. I think you've got a lot of different sections to choose from.

Now when the track opens, I've met more guys at the track than anywhere else. I would come a half an hour before the races end, I don't go in the beginning, I go at the end. When you get there they're already liquored up, they're already happy, they don't know what they're going to do next.

what places are the best date spots in san Diego?L'Auberge is really romantic. It’s got the bells and whistles. It's got the spa, it's right on the beach. You have that whole thing. Anything on the beach in amazing. Poseidon is right there, too. You know San Diego is called "Man Diego?" We call it "Man Diego" because it has a large population of men living there. And a lot of millionaires live there. Come on in, the water's fine.

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?Check out PSxoxo.com, you don't have to be a millionaire to join. It's like my Match.com for the thousandaire and it's a great site if you’re looking for love. I also have a makeup line out next year. We will be doing lots of makeovers. We are starting to shoot season six [of Bravo's The Millionaire Matchmaker] in April.
