FASER LS2 works coordina3on: 3rd Mee3ng
Jamie Boyd 6/6/2019
1
Progress on a few unrelated areas reported (relevant for different WPs) Backup with more general slides (mostly from previous mee3ngs)
Op#cal Fiber installa#on for FASER experiment Discussed with Johannes Troller (EN-‐EL-‐FC) 21.5.19. • It seems it should be fairly simple to make a deriva3on of a microduct passing TI12 to bring 12 or 24 fibers from US15 (downstairs in p1) to TI12
• Not a big cost difference for 12 or 24 fibers • Can then be patched to exis3ng fibers that go from US15 to SR1
• It maybe that a fiber carrying clock/orbit signals could be patched in already in US15 (depending on the choice of source for these signals).
• Rack we want the fibers to go to in SR1 is 4Y.02-‐10=SR1, need to define the details of the rack loca3on in TI12 (also which connec3on we need there) • In case the deriva3on of the microduct is infeasible, the installa3on of a new duct with microducts plus fibre cable is required from US15 to TI12 • Or, as a backup if the above is problema3c could also try to use BI infrastructure to get fibers to TI12, but not preferred solu3on. • Work would be planned to be done by May 2020
• By that 3me the rack in TI12 and cable trays would need to be installed (will require some coordina3on at the 3me)
• Johannes will look into detail at available fibers, channels and come back with a detailed plan, including a cost es3mate • Liam to look into integra3on details (route of cable trays / telex in UJ12/TI12, final loca3on of FASER racks in TI12) once more informa3on from Johannes is available (by August) • Followed in 3cket: RQF1152082
Grounding / Earthing • Yann Maurer (EN-‐EL-‐EIC) can make a connec3on to the LHC earthing cable and connect this to FASER infrastructure: – Detector baseplane – Electronics rack housing

Civil Engineering Strengthening Frames • Discussed with Pierre Thonet if it could be problema3c for the magne3c field if we have a steel frame that is not ‘under’ the magnet but also level with it:
4
• It seems this will not be problema3c • Going ahead with steel strengthening frames is therefore no problem!
Cooling • Have asked EN-‐CV if they can take responsibility for configuring and M&O for the FASER chiller – Informal discussion with Olivier quite posi3ve, awai3ng from from Roberto and Mauro
• Olivier will run a fluidic simula3on of the cooling in TI12, based on the following conserva3ve simplified model of heat dissipa3on:
