Sisters & Brothers,

Lent is a season in which we prepare for Easter and reflect on Jesus and his journey to the cross. In Matthew 3 & 4 there were two important events in Jesus’ life: his baptism and wilderness experience. By his baptism, Jesus was identified as fully divine. When he came out of the water “the heavens opened” symbolizing that he had direct access to God. Following his baptism Jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness, symbolizing his fully human. Jesus went into the wilderness with heart and mind as one. He not only had head knowledge but also a heart relationship. He went to the wilderness to prepare for the task of suffering and dying for us. Before he breathed his last breath, “at that moment the curtain of

the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom,” symbolizing how we have direct access to God.

Today as the church is faced with divisions; it is time for us to enter the wilderness with heart and mind as one. When I remove my agenda and replace it with God’s agenda, God can

perform great wonders and miracles.

Come with me on this Lent journey of reflecting on what God can do…, and experience

resurrection!

Blessings, Bob

"World Malaria Day—

Saturday, April 25," Bishop Cho said. "This day is used to bring awareness about the preventable and treatable disease of malaria around the world. The Virginia Conference is excited to announce our plans for the

day. We would like all of our churches across the state to participate by hosting lemonade stands in our communities. We want to connect our neighbors with our churches and help save the lives of thousands in Africa suffering from malaria. I imagine more than a thousand lemonade stands all over the conference." Visit www.vaumc.org website and click on “Imagine No Malaria” for ideas on how to make a stand and much more.

OTHER FUNDRAISING IDEAS: Mother’s Day is coming up—ask members of your congregation to donate $10 or more in honor or memory of their mothers. How about a donation for that birthday person who has everything. Make them feel special-send them a card and tell them you have donated to “Imagine No Malaria” on their behalf and they have saved several lives! Honor them with a party and have guests bring donations in their honor.

2014 Audits are now due. These forms can be found by

going to www.umcfarmville.org, Resources, Forms.

The Fund Balance Report (Audit) has been updated in 2015. Please use this new form. The previous year’s audit is now

due into the District Office by February 1, each year. As always, if there are any concerns that our office needs to be

made aware of please call us at 434-392-4687 or email us at [email protected] or [email protected] to

notify us so that we might be of help.

Parsonage Review and Parsonage Inventory

reports are required to be submitted to the District Office every year. These forms require the signature of

the Chairperson for the Trustees and the PPR Committee along with the pastor stating that they have all reviewed the

parsonage. We like for the Parsonage Review and Parsonage Inventory reports to be completed as soon as possible in the new year. You can find these forms by going to

www.umcfarmville.org, Resources, Forms. If there

is to be a move we share the review and inventory forms

with the incoming pastor. They are important and need to

be accurate.

2015 Annual Clergy Evaluation forms are due in the

District Office no later than June 1. They have been

emailed to all pastors and mailed to the S/PPR Committee Chairperson. They can also be found at

www.umcfarmville.org, Resources, Forms.

Remember that it is always important to place the name

of the church and the charge along with the date, including

the year, on all forms returned to the District Office.

The Farmville District Steward’s will meet on Monday,

June 28, at 4PM at the Keysville UMC.

The District Finance Committee will meet at the

District Office on Monday, May 18 at 6:30PM.

WESLEY FOUNDATION’S FUNDRAISER—“MILES OF PENNIES” This is a reminder about the Wesley Foundation’s Campus Ministry fundraiser “Miles of Pennies.” The money raised through this fundraiser will help pay for the various mission projects for the Wesley participants from Longwood University and Hampden Sydney College. Mission trips are a powerful part of our campus ministry programs, not to mention the life changing results they have on the participants. We ask that your church consider filling containers with pennies and other spare change. Simply place the container in an area that is used often in your church and mark it “Pennies for Wesley Missions”. There is no set deadline for this fundraiser, but we ask that you periodically contribute what your church has raised so we may apply it to the expenses of our mission trips. Did you know a mile of pennies will total $844.80? You can bring your change to us to count or you can have them counted and mail the check to The Wesley Foundation, 204 High St., Farmville, VA 23901. Please let us know what church has made the contribution.

Our plans are to start a different Newsletter format. An e-letter will be sent more often (approximately every two weeks) to our newsletter email list. This will take the place of the regular newsletter. We hope that this will have more up to date information on district and conference events.

We do not plan to MAIL this e-letter. If you receive the newsletter now by mail you will want to share your email address with us or send us an email address of a friend or family member that will receive this information. Otherwise, we ask that you contact your pastor to see if someone in the church will copy for you or share with you the information. We are still working out the details of this program. Please watch for your first e-letter coming to your in-box soon.

To send articles for the e-letter please continue to send your edited articles to Sue Mayo at [email protected] and copy them to [email protected]. We will need notices at least three weeks prior to an event. The more time allowed to list an event, the better it is for us all.

2015 ANNUAL CONFERENCE OFFERING

Bishop Young Jin Cho announced that the 2015 Annual Conference offering goal will be $150,000 and again focus on both international and Virginia-based mission needs. This offering will support Cambodia Methodist Mission, Ebola victims, and poor children in Virginia. ** $50.000 will provide continued support of our partnership with the Methodist Mission in Cambodia as they continue to purchase property for new churches and expand their fast growing mission.

** $50,000 is for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Global Health ministries to aid the Ebola-ravaged countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia. Both of these countries have trained and equipped Health Boards in their United Methodist conferences that are working to meet priorities and needs of communities recovering from the Ebola outbreak as well as a holistic approach to health that empowers people to take charge of their own lives and develop positive health-seeking behavior in their communities.

** $50,000 to support Virginia mission projects working with the poor in the Danville and Eastern Shore Districts. Both of these districts are working in ministry in areas of Virginia that are well below the national and state poverty levels. Of particular concern and emphasis are children living in poverty.
