BackgroundSince opening the first store in 1991 Fantastico has grown to an impressive chain of 34 supermarkets across Bulgaria, and has plans to expand even further. Fantastico is known for their cutting-edge approach to retailing, how they keep up with all the latest industry trends, and how they stand out from the crowd with their modern interior design in the stores. Although modern in approach the stores still create a friendly, warm almost cozy environment for shoppers.Fantastico is certainly a company that cares about much more than just figures. Fantastico are proud sponsors of the “Fantastico Open” bowling tournament and other major sporting events as well as supporting children’s homes and other community projects.

The ChallengeIn 2011 Fantastico decided to renovate their founding store on Oborishte Street, where the success story began. An image that showed a modern, environmentally responsible picture was the goal and Fantastico knew the lighting would have a significant part to play in achieving this result.Fantastico set Philips some tough challenges to overcome with this project. To create a ‘green’ environmentally friendly system that highlighted the merchandise effectively and would provide safety for the customers and employees. A system that would be modern and support the brand identity, while at the same time reducing heat generated in the store and of course, reducing energy consumption.

The SolutionThe Philips team knew the solution for Fantastico was a complete LED lighting system. This would give all the required elements plus the added benefit of longevity. Maxos LED was installed for the general lighting. A unique design along with reliability and excellent perfor-mance plus the flexibility of positioning made this the ideal choice. Magneos LED was used to highlight the merchandise. With an impressive lumen output equivalent to a 35W CDM lamp Magneos offers the additional benefits of not emitting heat or UV radiation. LuxSpace downlights were chosen for the cashier area. Not only are these units beautiful, they provide a consistent light output with a very stable performance which gives excellent color rendering. LED solutions were also installed in the freezer cabinets to utilize their excellent lighting ability and very low heat emission, not to mention an incredible 50,000 hours lifespan!
