YAKINTHOS VS VALENTINE In Creta we honor Yakinthos instead of Valentine and this is the reason why:

Hyakinthos is a hero from Greek mythology. He was very beautiful and god Apollo was in love with him. That made West Wind, Zephyr very jealous.

One day Apollo and Hyacinth were playing throwing the discus. Hyacinth ran to catch it to impress Apollo, but Zephyr made the discus loose

its track. Hyacinth was struck by the discus as it fell to the ground, and died. When he died, Apollo made a flower, the hyacinth, from his spilled blood.

In the year 98 p.X., 20-year old Yakinthos becomes martyr for the common faith, his love to God! ...

YAKINTHEIA – THE CELEBRATION

A poet, songwriter and singer from Anogia (famous Cretan village), called "Loudovikos from Anogia" decided to honor the Saint of Love. Thus Loudovikos founded together with spiritual men and artists an institution called "Corporation of Friends of Yakinthia Events", which organizes the Yakinthia Festivals.

Yakinthia takes place every year in the first week of July at the same

place called Fourni and in the Cretan village of Anogia.

Archbishop of Rethymnon, Anthymos had the idea to build a church at the same place.

The chapel is built in the shape of a Crete "mitato", a circular building made of flat stones. The building was realized after the rules of the Late Minoan architecture with a dome.

Vitsentzos or Vikentios Kornaros was a Cretan poet, who wrote the romantic epic poem Erotokritos. He was a leading figure of the Cretan Renaissance he was born, in a village near Sitia, Crete in 1553. Later, when he married, he came to live in Candia(now Heraklion)

During the outbreak of plague from 1591 to 1593 he worked as a sanitary supervisor. Kornaros died in 1613 (or 1614), just before his contemporaries, William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes.

The love story

Erotokritos (Greek: Ἐ ω ό ο ) is a romance written by Vitsenzos Kornaros. It consists of 10,012 fifteen-syllable rhymed verses, the last twelve of which refer to the poet himself. It is written in the Cretan dialect of the Greek language. Its central theme is love between Erotokritos and Aretousa.

Plot: After several years of marriage, a daughter (Aretousa) is born to the King of Athens (Heracles) and his wife. The son of the faithful adviser to the king (Erotokritos) falls in love with the princess. Because he cannot reveal his love, he sings under her window in the evenings. The girl gradually falls in love with the unknown singer.

Erotokritos, realising that his love cannot have a happy ending travels to Chalkida to forget. During his absence, his identity was revealed. The couple begins to secretly meets under the window of Aretousa. The girl pleads with Erotokritos to ask her father to allow them to marry. Naturally, the king is angry with the audacity of the young man and has him exiled. Simultaneously a marriage proposal for Arethusa arrives by the king of Byzantium.

The girl immediately gets engaged secretly to Erotokritos before he leaves the city. Aretousa refuses to consider any marriage proposals and is imprisoned by the king alongside her faithful nanny. After three years, when the Vlachs besiege Athens, Erotokritos reappears, his true identity concealed through magic. In a battle he saves the life of the king and gets wounded in the process. In order to thank the wounded stranger the king offers him his daughter as spouse. Aretousa refuses to accept this marriage and in discussion with the disguised Erotokritos she persists in her refusal. Erotokritos submits her to tests to confirm her faith and finally reveals himself after breaking the spell that concealed his identity. The king accepts the marriage and reconciles with Erotokritos and his father, and Erotokritos ascends to the throne of Athens.

Valdas Adamkus was born on November 3, 1926 into a Roman Catholic family in Kaunas. His father was one of the first heads of the Lithuanian Air Force School in the Republic of Lithuania. As a young man, Adamkus joined

the underground against the first Soviet occupation of 1940. During World War II, his family fled Lithuania in order to avoid the second Soviet occupation in 1944. He attended the University of Munich in Germany before emigrating to the United States in 1949.Vladas Adamkus is fluent in five languages — Lithuanian, Polish, English, Russian, and German. He graduated as a civil engineer from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1961. He joined the United States Environmental Protection Agency at its inception in 1970, working in Cincinnati. In 1981, he was appointed regional administrator by President Ronald Reagan, and was responsible for all air, water, hazardous waste, and other pollution control programs in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In 1985, President Reagan presented him with the Distinguished Executive Presidential Rank

Award – the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a civil servant. Valdas Adamkus served as regional administrator of the EPA for sixteen years, and retired in 1997, after twenty-nine years of service. Upon his retirement, he received a congratulatory letter from President Clinton and a Distinguished Career Award from EPA Administrator Carol Browner. EPA Region 5 presented him with the newly established "Valdas V. Adamkus Sustained Commitment to the Environment Honor Award".

Alma Adamkienė (born Alma σutautaitė in Šiauliai on February 10, 1927) is the wife of the former President of Lithuania, Valdas Adamkus, and was First Lady during his two terms (1998–2003; 2004–2009). She also holds United States citizenship. In 1944, when the Soviet Army returned to δithuania, Alma σutautaitė fled with her family to the West. She

finished high school in Germany, and later studied Philology at Erlangen University in Nuremberg. Alma σutautaitė emigrated to the United States of America in 1λ4λέ She first

worked as a laboratory assistant at a steel factory. Later, she took a position with an insurance company. She also organized and participated in δithuanian émigré activitiesέ Alma σutautaitė married Valdas Adamkus in 1951, and took her husband's surname (she is known as Alma Adamkus in the United States). During the presidential election held in Lithuania in 1997, Valdas Adamkus campaigned for the Presidency and won. After Adamkus became President, Adamkienė became involved in various Lithuanian social programs focusing on the

This is not a usual love storyν it’s a story about birds. It all started approx. 12 years ago in one small village in Croatia called ČigoΕέ τne female stork named Malena ("The Little") with a broken wing has been visited by a male stork Klepetan („Windbag") in her nest on the top of a house, they immediately fell in love. As

all of you know, storks fly south to Africa because of the cold winter temperatures. Sadly this was not the case with Malena because of her broken wing. Klepetan returns every spring, around 24th of March. We are still expecting his return in March of 2015. Every year Malena hatches eggs with the new family members inside, she has hatched more than 46 baby storks that leave the nest in autumn like their dad.

In 1903 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics with his wife, εarie Skłodowska-Curie. Prior to his famous doctoral studies on magnetism, he designed and perfected an extremely sensitive torsion balance for measuring magnetic coefficients

Keep reading to find out… Martin Ødegaard is about to be interviewed by TV2 because of his cooperation with Real Madrid. He is standing on the stage waiting for the interviewer. Stian Blipp comes towards him and that was when εartin realized… He was deeply in love with Stian. Stians voice was like music to εartin’s ears and the time went fast, far too fast. When the show was over, Martin followed Stian behind the stage. “You did great” Stian said and smiled at Martin who felt like a Disney princess. “Thank you” he answeredέ Stian Blipp looked amazing, he thoughtέ “You can visit me someday, if you want to” Stian said and εartin almost fainted. “Yes!” he sighted and his heart was pounding like a boom bass. They decided to meet the next day at a café and both of them were really excited. Martin ordered a latte and Stian had a cappuccino. On their way back to Stian’s, εartin took Stians hand, but Stian didn’t want toέ Whyς What was wrong? Stian pulled his hand back, εartin had no idea whyέ He asked “what’s wrongς Have I misread the signalsς” Stian answered “no, no, not at all! I’m so sorry, but we can’t do this in public! It will ruin our reputations”έ “Yeah, you’re probably right”έ They walked home in complete silence. When they arrived at Stian’s place, Stian made a romantic dinner for their first dateέ They talked for hours and when Martin was about to leave, Stian gave him a goodbye kiss.

Stian didn’t sleep well that nightν he had the feeling of real love mixed with confusion. What about his girlfriend, what was he supposed to say to her? It feels right, doesn’t itς!” εartin criedέ Stian got tears in his eyes and ran out to get some air. Martin followed him. “I am so sorry… It is just so many emotions at the same timeέ I am confused, scared and so in love at the same timeέ” Stian saidέ “I feel the same way, sorry for shouting at youέ I just want this so badly” Martin replied. “I want this too, but I am just so scared of how people are going to reactέ” They both went back inside and Martin checked his twitter. People were surprised, but they were very supportiveέ Comments like “Congratz”, “How cute” and “Surprising, but awesome!” were all over their twittersέ “People are taking this surprisingly well!” said εartin who was over the moon about this. Stian took Martins hands and they fit perfectly. “I am going to move to εadrid, do you want to come with me” εartin said hopefully. “τf course I will!” Stian shouted followed by a kissέ They soon became σorway’s most popular couple and even the homophobes shipped them. She wrote a blog about her life, her hobbies and people she liked. She especially liked to write about Magnus Carlsen. Magnus was a professional chess player. He was going to the chess world cup, and he was going to win. Sophie was lucky enough to win a meeting with him to interview him and write more about him in her blog. She packed her suitcase because she was going to spend a whole week in Oslo, in the same hotel as εagnusέ Sophie couldn’t be happier to meet him, she almost cried. No, she did cry. So much that her makeup got ruined and her face was covered in black, clumpy mascara. When she got out of the plane, she rushed to the hotel so no paparazzi’s could find her and take picturesέ “What if

Magnus saw some horrible pictures of me and didn’t fall in love with meς” she thought to herself. It would be embarrassing to go to the reception desk looking like a clown. So she decided to go to the bathroom and fix her makeup, before asking for the room key. There was a sign that said “Bathroom” Sophie walked in the direction the sign showed. It

was only one door, so she went through it. It was a bathroom, and she was happy that she found it. After she was done doing her makeup she was walking to the door. Right when she reached for the door handle, the door swung open and hit her in the face. She fell down on the floor and felt the blood tickle down her chin. She really hoped that her nose that she operated 10 months ago wasn’t brokenέ The person that hit her rushed to her side and apologized over and over again. Sophie knew it was a guy because of the voice. The stranger reached his hand to her. She looked up and froze. Magnus Carlsen, her crush had hit her in the faceέ She wasn’t angry anymore. She blinked and took his hand. He asked if she was okay and she said yes. He followed her to her room and they talked for a long time. They became good friends and started to fall for each other. Sophie thought that Magnus was smart, and Magnus thought that Sophie was really pretty. Magnus

took her out for a date and asked if she wanted to be his girlfriend. And of course she said yes. They were happy and laughed a lot. But the love had to end when Sophie was going back homeέ They knew that they couldn’t have a long distance relationship, because Magnus travelled too much and Sophie was too dedicated to her blog. They could send letters, call or even skype, but it would be too hard. Sophie went to the airport and Magnus followed her. It was Valentine’s Day so everything was red, but for Sophie and Magnus it was a sad day. They had to break up on the most romantic day. Sophie cried a lot and Magnus also cried. They said goodbye. Sophie was bored on the plane and they sky was greyέ It was goodbye and they didn’t know when or even if they were going to meet again. Some months later, Sophie was sitting in her room and writing on her blog when the doorbell rang. She opened the door and there stood Magnus. She ran into his arms and they hugged for a really long time. They were reunited with the love of their life and lived happily ever after.

σorway’s Cinderella Once upon a time, an average girl worked in a bar. She was beautiful, had blond hair and blue, stunning eyes. She was barely over the brake up with her earlier boyfriend: a drug, sex and alcohol addict. She was very ashamed over it, but luckily, not very many people knew about this. But unfortunately, this

was about to change. One day when she was working in the bar, a beautiful young man came in. He was well dressed, had a crown on his head, and he smelled like the most expensive fragrance you could ever find. It was love at first sight. He walked over to her and presented himself as “Prince Håkon of σorway”έ She was blown away, and didn’t know what to say. But she couldn’t just stand there, so she

presented herself as well. They started talking, and got on really well. They became a couple who was very in love although they came from two different worlds. Later on, when they had been going out for a while, she had to tell him the deep, dark truth about her earlier life. She told him about that she once had a boyfriend who abused her. He was a sex addict as well as a drug and alcohol addict. He was simply a terrible human being, and now she has no idea why she ever would let him do such horrible things to himself and her. On top of this, they had a son together. His name is Marius Borg Høiby, and he was born in 1997. She was very nervous about telling him; because she thought telling him meant that he would break up with herέ But he couldn’t care less, because he loved her more than anythingέ “The past is in the past, and the fact that we are together now, is all that mattersέ”

The media and the rest of Norway did not support their relationship at all. The front covers on papers in Norway told about her tragedy life, they made up lies about her being addicted to drugs, the prince did not like this, so he talked to the prime minister and told him stop the rumors in the media.

After a while Mette-Marit was sent to a Princess school, so she could learn to behave herself in the media and in the king house. Of course Prince Haakon was with her all the time. And when she came back, she had manners and knew how to behave like a princess. He loved her more than ever now, so there was only one

thing to do: propose. So he did. She said of course yes, and they got married with the king’s permissionέ They have been married for 14 years now, and they are as happy as ever. They have two children together, and they are born in 2004 and 2005. Today, everyone in Norway is very supportive about their relationship. Mette-Marit and Håkon are very passionate about them and have been ever since the time when they laid eyes on one anotherέ She became σorway’s Cinderellaέ ♥
