• Chester Himes was born in 1909 in Jefferson City. He wrote192 books all his life. He was a millionaire. Chester Himes got really sick with cancer. He was the first African American to win an award in France. He got the award in 1958.
• Chester Himes got married in 1952. He was famous for writing novels and poems. He got a divorce and got married again. He was the son of a teacher. He wrote two volumes of an autobiography. His house burned down in 1965. The fire killed his mother.
• Chester Himes last book was Yesterday Will Make You Cry. He died in 1984 in Spain. After he died all his books were copied and sold for millions.
