WORLD MARRIAGE DAY

This weekend we celebrate World Marriage Day! The permanent theme for World Marriage Day is "Love One Another" from the commandment given us by Jesus in John chapter 14. This gospel gives us a simple but challenging message of how our Heavenly Father wishes us to live. Loving one another is a daily decision - simple, but challenging. Let’s take time to pray for all who are called to the vocation of the sacrament of marriage.

A World Marriage Day Prayer Father, as we prepare for World Marriage Day, we thank you for your tremendous gift of the Sacrament of Marriage. Help us to witness to its glory by a life of growing intimacy. Teach us the beauty of forgiveness so we may become more and more One in Heart, Mind and Body. Strengthen our dialogue and help us become living signs of your love. Make us grow more in love with the Church so we may renew the Body of Christ. Make us a sign of unity in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Brother. Amen.

Dear brothers and sisters, Pope Francis has declared for the universal church an Extraordinary Mission Month in October 2019 (EMM 2019). The theme is “Baptized and Sent - The Church of Christ on Mission in the World”. During the month of October we will have opportunities to reflect on the lives of missionary disciples who have gone before us, and to renew our call to announce the Good News of God’s mercy and love for everyone. The Holy Father indicated four ways to help us prepare for and live out EMM 2019: 1) Cultivating a personal encounter with Jesus Christ alive in his Church: Eucharist, Word of God, personal and communal prayer; 2) Reading about the witness of the saints, the missionary martyrs, and the Confessors of the Faith, who are unique expressions of the churches of the world; 3) Praying with and learning from biblical, catechetical, spiritual and theological formation regarding the missio ad gentes (“mission to nations”); and, 4) Engaging in missionary charity as a material support for the immense work of evangelization and Christian formation in churches that are most in need. Pope Francis has spoken powerfully of his dream that we become a ‘missionary Church’ – a Church that is not turned inward on itself but reaches out to those who do not know God. This is the vision we have for our diocese: that each person - lay and ordained - be committed to announcing the Good News, serving those in need, and joyfully accompanying one another as we grow in holiness. Working with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishop Fabbro and I hope that this ecclesial initiative, at both the universal and local levels, will contribute significantly to a renewal in missionary spirit throughout Canada, in the diocese and in the lives of all the baptized. As we prepare for this year’s Extraordinary Mission Month, you will hear of different diocesan and parish initiative that celebrate, educate and promote local and international mission work. I invite you to save the date of 19 October 2019 for a diocesan initiative. More information will be forthcoming. Yours in Christ, Most Reverend Joseph Dabrowski, C.S.M.A. Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of London

QUO VADIS – VOCATION DISCERNMENT GROUPS FOR CATHOLIC MEN: Quo Vadis is Latin for “where are you going?” Is Jesus calling me to be a Catholic priest? It’s not an easy question to answer. It takes prayer and study to discover your true vocation. Quo Vadis is a discernment group of men, ages 18 to 35, who love Jesus Christ and His Church, and who are willing to talk with other like-minded men about their future. The group meetings aren’t meant to convince you that priesthood is your vocation, but openness to God's will is the goal of these groups. Contact Fr. Patrick Bénéteau at [email protected] or 519-432-1824 ext. 204, for meeting times and locations or see the bulletin board poster for more details.

Holy Angels’ Coffee Sunday is Cancelled for February 10th.
