TREASURER’S REPORT JUNE 2017 Andrew Thorsen 360-621-7984

Below is a 3-year comparison of income vs. expenses through end of June each year.

There is likely a combination of factors contributing to the significant negative net income this month.

June 2017 has seen a significant drop in offerings. Through May of 2017, our monthly offerings have

averaged just under $60,000 per month. Our June offerings totaled $34,000. Several semi-annual or

quarterly payments from budget were paid at the end of June, also contributing to the significant net

change. In June of 2016, our offerings totaled $63,000.

It is also significant that this year attendance figures have really dropped in May and June (average

344), compared to 402 in March and 478 in April, which has been accompanied by lower offerings.

MOM’S CIRCLE - (Tuesdays at noon at Olympic Lutherhaven).

Come out to the lake and bring the kids for a picnic lunch. Check in with some old friends or meet some new ones. Contact Pastor Paula with any questions.

Kids’ Word It’s one of the most vibrant and growing ministries at SLC! More kids come each week to hear

God’s Word at their level. This ministry is led by parents and over the summer, we need you to

step in and help. We typically have a lot of families “try out” our church over the summer

months, and we would love to continue with this ministry all summer long.

Here is what is involved: Take the kids right after the children’s sermon until right after the

sermon to a room in the preschool. Do a craft and a lesson with them. We have materials for

you, a board with ideas on Pinterest, or you can get creative and come up with your own

ideas. You will have the kids for about 20-30 minutes.

We’re in need of volunteers in July/Aug—for the 10 am service. Teens are welcome too!

If you can help, please email Karen Sansgaard at [email protected]

VBS UPDATE/HELP NEEDED: So, we are down to just needing to register students for VBS & Securing a VBS Clean-up Team! P2 & PJ have been working hard to create just the right program to celebrate the Reformation Celebration, so go on line to register your student or take a postcard from the narthex with the registration information on it to share with your family, friends & neighbors. The VBS Clean-Up Team will be needed to clean up from VBS on Thursday, August 3rd at 1:00p. This gift of your time and energy will allow our staff the freedom to go out to the celebration at Lutherhaven and not have to worry about coming back to SLC for clean up!

Check today’s ministry card to show your support to our staff!

The SLC Set up team! We are looking for a group of folks who would like to come in on a regular basis and set up for regularly scheduled events at SLC. This gift of your time would allow our maintenance manager more time to see to the needs of our campus. It would be a minimal commitment of about an hour or so a week.

Questions, contact Lisa Gregg or check the ministry card.

Thank you from Ann Cummings...Thanks be to God and to all of you that prayed for us during Bob's recent heart surgeries. We are truly blessed. Your prayers, phone calls, cards, visits and emails were greatly appreciated. "Thank You" seems so inadequate to express our heartfelt gratitude. He is doing well as he continues to gain strength and return to his normal activities. We also would like you to know how blessed we are to have such wonderful Pastors that were there every step of the way with each of us.

Reformation 500—Movie with your Pastor

As we continue in the 500th year anniversary of the Reformation, we are offering you many opportunities to celebrate and educate! Check out our new Reformation 500 web page by clicking http://silverdalelutheran.org/reformation-resources/ with recommended books, writings, programs, events, and movies. On September 22nd at 6:30pm, we’ll join with other Lutheran Congregations for another Martin Luther movie at SEE Films in Bremerton, entitled, Luther, starring Joseph Fiennes as Martin Luther with other notable actors like Gruno Ganz, Peter Ustinov, Alfred Molina, and Clair Cox. Lastly, in mid October (details TBD) we’ll again join with other Lutheran Congregations in our area at See Films in Bremerton to watch a new film on the Reformation called Martin Luther, The Idea that Changed the World.

Ride for Refugees-The above Ride for Refugees Event on Aug.19th will start & end at SLC! (http://

silverdalelutheran.org/reform-ride-for-refugees/). I am looking for several members to assist with

registration at the start of the race, help with parking, serving a morning snack and getting bikers on

their way. I am also looking for a team that would be willing to prepare a Reformation 500 Brat & a

crew to serve. We also need many hands for clean up. If you can help, please contact Darcy:

SUMMER WORSHIP SERIES

As we continue to celebrate the

500th Anniversary of the Reformation, we will spend the summer in the stories of Genesis.

Why Genesis? In 1523, in the early years of the Reformation, Martin Luther began preaching from Genesis and in these sermons

he began applying his convictions about grace alone, faith alone, and scripture alone, to the Christian life. Moreover, starting in 1535, he would continue lecturing on Genesis for the rest of his life. Our pastors will preach,

just as Luther did, on the book of Genesis exploring how these powerful stories communicate the Gospel and how they move us, as they did Luther!

July 9 12:1-3, 15:1-21 Covenant/Promise to Abraham and Sarah
