by supporting and engaging their parents and
caregivers. Parents as Teachers provides an
evidence-based home visiting model and is a center

PARENT UNIVERSITY
This is a 13 week course created to
help build stronger families by giving you the
confidence, tools, and skills you need to raise
healthy, caring, and responsible children. Marta
Plata, the principal at Fort Worth ISD’s Manuel Jara
Elementary, teamed up with RezilientKidz and
created the first Parent University with the “Raising
Highly Capable Kids” curriculum in 2013. In the
years that have followed, Mrs. Plata created a
second-year curriculum (201) for returning parents
and even teamed up with Tarrant Community
College for those parents who wish to continue
learning in level 301. Now the program has spread
to more than 20 other Fort Worth ISD schools.
Please visit your school office for more information.
READ2WIN
The vision of Read2Win is to match a local church with all 85 FWISD elementary schools and provide 1,000 caring volunteer reading coaches for every 1st grader needing help in the FWISD. Our Volunteer Reading Coaches (VRCs) just this past year have assisted nearly 700 1st grade students! Please help us continue to grow this number until every struggling student has a caring volunteer to help them.
Volunteer Reading Coaches help their 1st grade students:
Once a week for an average of one hour
One-on-one sessions
During school hours
Stay with them for their entire school year
We have set lesson plans that almost anyone can use that have been
applauded by the FWISD and our volunteers.

100X25 FWTX
The 100x25 FWTX is a priority initiative for
volunteers looking to support students and
reading. The goal is 100 percent of Fort Worth
third-graders reading on grade level or above by
2025. Third-grade literacy can determine success
in all subjects for years to come, including math
and science. Until third grade, children are learning
to read. After that, they are reading to learn.
Studies show that 75 percent of children who
struggle with reading in third grade never catch up.

SITE-BASED DECISION MAKING TEAM
Site-based decision making is a process for decentralizing decisions to improve the educational outcomes at every school campus through a collaborative effort by which principals, teachers, campus staff, district staff, parents, and community representatives assess educational outcomes of all students, determine goals and strategies, and ensure that strategies are implemented and adjusted to improve student achievement. For more information about participating at your campus, please contact the school.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE
Each school has an LPAC committee. Each LPAC
should include a campus administrator, Bilingual/ESL
teacher and a parent of a student who is in the
bilingual or ESL program (Limited English Proficient-
LEP). All members of the LPAC must be trained to
perform the duties of the committee according to
state guidelines. The LPAC reviews all pertinent
information on each LEP student at the time of initial
enrollment and at the end of each school year,
places students in the appropriate program, and
monitors the progress of LEP and former LEP
students. For more information about participating
at your campus, please contact the school.

and major classroom instructional programs. The
committee is made up of representatives from the
professional staff of the district, parents of students
enrolled in the district, and business and community
members. The committee is advisory in nature and
each year the committee evaluates the academic
progress in the district and assists staff in making
appropriate changes in the District Educational
Improvement Plan. For more information, visit the

READYROSIE(BIRTH-GRADE 3)
ReadyRosie: Short videos are delivered to
your mobile device (smart phone, tablet) or
laptop via text, app, or email and
demonstrate activities you can do with your
child anytime, anywhere. These fun activities
can be done in the car, in a restaurant, in the
laundromat or at home – all situations in which
you may find you have free time to interact in
a fun and helpful way with your son or
daughter! Plus, it increases the amount of
quality time you spend together. Click here to

SMARTY ANTS (PK- GRADE 2)
Smarty Ants: Smarty Ants is an effective, research-driven solution that differentiates instruction in foundational reading skills and accelerates student achievement – all in an engaging, interactive, online learning environment. The program continuously evaluates each student’s exact skill level, learning temperament, and learning pace. Based on this information, the adaptive content system automatically delivers the right level of skill instruction and practice to keep learners in the zone of proximal development. No two students will approach the content or process in the same manner, but they all will reach the same critical milestones for primary-grade literacy success and emerge as confident, capable readers ready for the challenges of second grade and beyond.
