Annual Report 2018
FAMILY DAY CARE ASSOCIATION QUEENSLAND
Welcome to the AGM for 2018 and thank you for coming. What a year it has been. We say this every year as there is always so much happening in the FDC world. However for me, and I am sure for others in the room, it certainly has been a big year. All of us in the FDCAQ family were hit hard by the news of Peta's illness which came as a shock to us all, but most of all, for Peta. Peta worked through the first 6 months of the year to maintain the stability of the Association and in June, Peta decided to take leave for 6 months to focus on her recovery. We wish Peta well for a speedy recovery and look forward to her return in the future. The Board would like to acknowledge their appreciation for the work Peta has done for the Association. We welcome Jason for his 6 months contract as Acting CEO of the Association and look forward to working with him and supporting him where and when needed. The introduction of the CCS system has been an interesting journey, to say the least. It has been a challenging start for all involved and I can see and hear from others this is settling down now. It certainly is an interesting climate in which we work where services were closing and compliance being the major focus for many. This has also added to these challenging times for everyone in the sector. A lot of time was spent this year in discussions around many aspects of FDC, for example IHC, Nanny Pilot, ISA, staffing issues, budgets and the RTO. As a board, we welcomed the opportunity to undertake some governance
training which is always helpful. The retreat took place this year with the added fun of an Alice in Wonderland theme. This is a great learning opportunity for those who attend, the bonus being that we, as a board, can network with staff. All service staff came together to share ideas and stories and engage in great conversations in a relaxed atmosphere. We look forward to the next one. Thank you to all staff who organised and facilitated the retreat. As a board we were pleased to have the opportunity to select the recipients of the FDCAQ awards that were presented at the retreat dinner. It was extremely impressive reading the nominations and the ongoing commitment in making FDC the great care model that it is. Congratulations to those who received an award and to all Association staff for your hard work and commitment. To fellow board members, thank you for volunteering your time to provide the Association with support and guidance. Time away from your service is acknowledged and appreciated. The vast array of knowledge and skills amongst the board members serves us well when making decisions in a governance role. We look forward to working together for another year.
