2017 GRAVITY ENDURO NATIONAL SERIES

2 Falls Creek & Mount Beauty THIS WEEK ~ Summer 2017 Edition THIRTEEN

Round One - Falls Creek

The National Gravity Enduro Series acts as the qualifying series for the Enduro World Series. See mention

in the article with Ben McIlroy.Mountain Bike Australia in conjunction with Falls Creek Resort Management are pleased to present Round One of the 2017 Gravity Enduro National Series. The series is Australia wide with Round Two being held at Stromlo Forest ACT in May. Round Three will be at Balingup WA in June; Round Four will go to Rockhampton in July and the final round will be held on Woodford Island, on the Clarence River in northern NSW in August. The popularity of mountain biking continues to grow. From the great efforts of some Mount Beauty locals in the 90’s - to hosting the Nationals in Feb 2000 - to the point where we have some of the best tracks in the country - both in Mount Beauty and in Falls Creek. The growth and the success means we can continue to host fabulous events.

Round One of the GE National Series will be staged this weekend, beginning with practice sessions from 11am Friday.During the course of the weekend, several of the trails will be closed to general riders although Blue Dirt will have shuttles running on Friday from 11am to 6pm and again on Saturday from 9am to 5pm. Cost is $50 per day or $90 for 2 days. Go to www.bluedirt.com.au to book. On Sunday the trails will be closed to the general public, but will progressively open as the different sections of the event are completed. Pretty Valley Road will also have closures and be subject to delays should anyone be travelling back from the horse yards or Pretty Valley Pondage. Now this Gravity Enduro is a different sort of mountain bike racing to what we know as Downhill or Cross Country. The Gravity Enduro is both. The athletes will start with a warm up ride from Slalom Plaza, out the Bogong High Plains Road, up the Pretty Valley Road and then across to the Trig

Point on the Frying Pan Spur. The aim of the game is to ride each section no faster than the fastest time allowed, and no slower than the set slowest time. Then they do the competitive bit, before riding to the start of the next competitive bit without beating or exceeding the times permitted. At the time of going to print, the final course had not been set, but they look like taking in High Voltage and Wishing Well, then heading to Flowtown, completing that before heading to Thunderbolt and then to Generator and Vortex before finishing in Slalom Plaza. Sound like a pretty easy day!!The weekend’s program sort of goes like this. Saturday: 9am to 16:00 is compulsory practice. 10am to 18:30 is rider registration and Info Tent open. 17:00 to 17:30 is rider briefing. From 18:00 on there is a social evening at Last Hoot Restaurant and Bar in Slalom Plaza.Sunday: 8am to 9am Rider Briefing and Timing activation. 8:30am to 1430pm Trails Open for GE competition.1500 to 1630 Presentations. If you’re into biking and would like to enjoy some good action, be at Falls Creek this weekend. VILLAGE AMENITYReduced Vehicle Traffic

As a result of situations in previous summers, during the busy Christmas/January period, Falls

Creek village was advised by the CFA and Victoria Police that there were problems with too many vehicles in the village.

The irony is that while we have promoted the village for summer trade – and this summer trade is growing – it produces its own set of different circumstances. As a snow resort, the concept of the ski through village is part of the resort’s attractiveness and visitor parking has always been accepted as ‘down along the road!’

The rise in summer trade – and the fact there is no snow on the village roads has meant the visitors, as well as staff and residents could always drive into the village. But, experience has shown that during the busy times the number of vehicles in the village creates problems.

From the simple ‘blocking in of other vehicles’ to the biggest problem - the

The ‘Pumper’ - a vital piece of equipment for our resort – and it must be able to get around the village

– because if we have a fire – and it can’t get through!!! Think about it. Pic – Ken Bell

inability of our major fire-fighting appliance- the tracked vehicle ‘pumper’ – not being able to get to a fire!

The ‘Pumper’ (its colloquial name) is a track vehicle designed to be used during snow season as well as during the rest of the year. It is capable of pushing water up to a height of four or five floors – very necessary in a resort on the side of a hill. It is also a little bit wider than your average ‘fire truck’ and the tracks make it slightly less manoeuvrable than a normal vehicle of this size.

God forbid – should a fire start anywhere in the village and the ‘pumper’ not be able to reach the site, one does not need a lot of imagination to know that it would be ‘good night nurse’ for pretty well the whole village …and it’s too late afterwards!

On the positive side, feedback from the community (residents and visitors alike) has been extremely positive. We are a family resort and the lack of vehicles in the village has produced a nicer ambience – with folk happy to wander most places, kids playing

in the streets and enjoying riding their bicycles and scooters around the village. Also at this Christmas/January time of year, the village plays host to several hundred athletes and their coaches who spend a lot of time moving around the village on foot.

Then we have the mountain bike fraternity- taking advantage of the fabulous new trails. One of the secrets to the success of our mountain biking program development is that the majority of the trails all hook up with the village. You can start from the village and return to the village by any number of routes – and a quick pedal through uncluttered streets is so much better for everyone.

Special needs visitors are able to call in to the Resort Management Office/Visitor Information Centre to obtain a special access pass.

With folk wandering around enjoying the beautiful clear air, fantastic scenery and the great activities - who needs a car anyway? •

A TIME TO REMEMBER

3Falls Creek & Mount Beauty THIS WEEK ~ Summer 2017 Edition THIRTEEN

ANZAC Day

The years flash by; the numbers of actual returned service personnel diminishes - and yet the respect

increases. Fortunately conflicts of the scale of WW1 and WW11 have not re-occurred. New returned service personnel are now coming from the ranks of Vietnam Vets and those who have seen service in the Middle East. Numbers are being maintained by other service personnel and all are supported by the very appreciative public.Over the years, the numbers of spectator supporters that have turned up to show their appreciation has grown dramatically. This, to me, says that there remains a very strong - yet unspoken - feeling of gratitude and respect among the community and in our quiet way, we just turn up and express our acknowledgement of our ‘diggers.’ANZAC Day is the one of the few opportunities in the year where people can come together with a solemn and sincere purpose. It is a day that engenders pride and reinforces the gratefulness carried by the bulk of the nation. It is expected that this year will be no different.Falls Creek ServiceJoin the Falls Creek locals at this unique location, Eagle Rock, for the Dawn Service 2017.Shuttle for ANZAC Dawn Service: 5:15am - 6:30am Meet at Slalom Day Car Park.

ATHLETICS SEMINARInterest Grows

Every year, Falls Creek is the summer training destination for many of Australia’s current, future and past

distance running champions. With so many runners on the mountain, Athletics International will once again be presenting its annual distance running seminar on Friday 28th December, bringing together runners of all abilities to hear from our best athletes.

The seminar will commence at 2pm with a distance running athletes’ panel, hosted by the highly respected Chris Wardlaw, two-time Olympian and renowned coach. The panel includes Exercise Physiologist Jamie Barnes, as well as featuring some of Australia’s elite middle and long distance runners as they build towards representing their country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This gives the audience a chance to pick up some training tips and learn what makes our elite athletes tick.

Following the distance running athlete’s panel, we will hear from the legendary Rob de Castella with an introduction to the Indigenous Marathon Project, a program that is encouraging a growing number of indigenous Australians to train for and complete a major international

Deeks established the Indigenous Marathon Foundation in 2009, and has supported 75 graduates to complete marathons such as Boston, New York and London, along the way promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle and inspiring their communities.

The popular female athletes’ seminar, commencing at 3:30pm, will wrap up the afternoon and is open to all female athletes and their parents & coaches.

The session will delve into some of the specific challenges female distance athletes face, and will feature professional input from Accredited Sports Dietitian Jessica Rothwell. Jessica represented Australia at both world junior and world senior athletics championships during her race walking career, and the combination of her endurance background along with her current role as sports dietitian at the Victorian Institute of Sport ensures she will have many practical tips to share.

All sessions will be held in the Falls Creek Resort Management Boardroom (above

Food Works supermarket). Runners of all levels and parents and coaches are welcome, and afternoon tea will be provided. No RSVP is required, however please arrive early as space is limited.

The seminar will be followed by an athletes’ welcome barbeque in Slalom Plaza, starting at 6pm. For all enquires please contact Sarah Klein Mb: 0421 082 289, or Lauren Shelley Mb: 0408 338 172. •

SUMMER AT FALLS CREEKSomething for Everyone

As was proudly reported in the last edition of this fine publication, Falls Creek was recently awarded Gold at

the RACV 2018 Victorian Tourism Awards. The category we won was the Major Tourist Attraction. And while this award recognises the great job the whole team does in winter, it also is recognition of the fact that summer tourism is growing – and we’re loving it.

Journalists are visiting, high profile athletes continue to return to the village and visitors with a diverse range of interests continue to discover just how attractive Falls Creek and the surrounding Bogong High Plains are in summer.

Also, as mentioned elsewhere in the paper, the village roads are closed to traffic until 7th January. You can drive into the village and unload, but you are then asked to take your vehicle out of the village and park it in the normal carparks – as you would in winter. This creates a wonderful ambience and enables visitors, families and kids to stroll around the village in peace and safety – making for a much improved holiday experience.

Christmas Carols

Falls Creek has the only Carols by Candlelight on Christmas Eve in the region!

Locals and guests can bring Christmas cheer to Falls Creek with the Community Carols taking place on Christmas Eve. Carols will be held on the Village Green beside Nelse Lodge from 6pm.

The CFA are doing the BBQ and Santa will find time to visit. All are welcome. BYO Bubbles. •

Mountain Biking

In recent summers the mountain biking has gone berserk and mountain bikers have travelled from all over the state to experience our trails – which are rated as some of the best in the state. They link up well, they are easily accessed - to and from the village and there is a simple progression from beginner to experienced. And when you do stop for a breather, there is all this fabulous scenery to behold.

Falls Creek now boasts in excess of 44km of single track from beginner area out in the Nordic Bowl called ‘Short Circuit,’ with ‘Induction’ to bring you back to the Trail Head at the Café and Carpark in Slalom Plaza.

Up on the Frying Pan Spur we have ‘High Voltage’ which is sheer adrenalin ‘black’ – and in between we have heaps of intermediate that can be taken as fast or s cruisy as you like.

Bike Hire is available in the village in Slalom Plaza and also at Frueauf Village behind Milch Café Restaurant.

Bikes are also available in Mount Beauty at Rocky Valley Bikes in Tawonga South opposite Sweetwater Brewery. Be clever and book early.

And, as well as the mountain bike trails, we have all of the management vehicle tracks and aqueducts in and around the Bogong High Plains that can take you for miles!!! •

Dirt Divas @ Falls Creek

TFB (The Fastline Bikademy) was formed out of a shared passion for ‘all things bikes,’ held by two retired elite racers; Julia ‘Indi’ Boer and Roger Derrick.

The day starts with three hours of skills coaching, lunch and then three hours of guided riding.

Proceeds of the walk go to the Falls Creek Museum. Go to the website: www.trailstalesandtucker.com. Check the dates and then make your booking. •

SUMMER HOLIDAYSIn the Kiewa Valley

Summer is a time we love. The kids are on holidays, the visitors have arrived and everything is rolling along nicely.

Isn’t it great when the biggest problem we have is that our supermarket is busier than normal – or we can’t find a park right outside the shop we want to visit. Build a bridge! There are loads of fun things to do in the lead up to Christmas and during the holidays. Take a moment to enjoy them all. Let’s have a look shall we?

Christmas LightsThere are quite a few houses in town where the owners have done a brilliant job of putting up a wonderful display of Christmas Lights. Well done to all those people – and thankyou for exercising

a true spirit of Christmas. To help you visit the lights, the Mount Beauty Visitor Information Centre has a rough mud-map of several of the properties with a good display of Chrissy lights. At the time of going to print, there were about eight homes that have been brilliantly decorated and are worth the visit. There may be more, but your journo did not discover them prior to publication. •

Live EntertainmentA great family nigh out is assured for New Year’s Eve at the Mount Beauty United Cricket Club rooms and sports ground. They have live entertainment sorted, starting at around 5pm and will culminate – welcoming in the New Year with some great music! Refer article elsewhere in this publication. •

FishingIt’s just one of those peaceful activities that can be enjoyed on your own or with the kids. The rivers are all good and the Pondage has trout and some ‘reddies.’ When you are sneaking around the water-ways just be aware - there are Joe Blakes in that there bush.

Fishing rods, gear and licences are available from Rocky Valley Bikes and Sports in Tawonga South. The bloke over the road,

Peter Hull at Sweetwater Brewery has done a bit of fishing in his time – and if you buy a beer – he may pass on some of his knowledge. •

GlidingThe Mount Beauty Gliding Club will be operating over Christmas-New Year from Wednesday 26th December. To view the Mount Beauty region’s magnificent mountain scenery from the air, visitors may go to the airfield on Embankment Drive to enquire about Air Experience Flights. Mountain BikingThe fabulous team at Team Mount Beauty have spent many years creating and cultivating ripper tracks in the Big Hill Mountain Bike Park. One feather in their cap is that the club hosted the National Mountain Bike Championships in February 2000, prior to Australia hosting the Olympics in September 2000. One of our respected members got the gig of building the XC Mountain Bike course for the Sydney Olympics. (We do have some credibility). The club are now in the process of producing a snazzy new colour map of the trails and they will be available from Rocky Valley Bikes, Sweetwater Brewery and The Info Centre for a gold coin donation. •

Horse RidingThe traditional way of enjoying the Alpine High Country. Kath and Steve Baird have been operating Bogong Horseback

Adventures since 1986 and have spent almost as much time on the high plains as the mountain cattlemen. Supported by competent staff, Kath, Steve and their boys Lin and Clay have taken many of thousands of riders for the experience of a lifetime. Trips offered range from a two hour ride in the Kiewa Valley, a three hour ride including a light lunch and five day packhorse trips into the high country. Phone 5754 4849 •

THE ORIGINAL MOUNTAIN ULTRABogong 2 Hotham

In 1984 the first edition of the Bogong to Hotham, aka The Rooftop Run saw a handful of runners take on what was

ultimately an unmanaged trail for many sections, from the camp ground at Mountain Creek to the Summit of Mount Hotham some 64km in distance including elevation gains of 3500metres.

Fast forward 34 years and thanks to the team at Parks Victoria, runners are presented with what, by comparison, could be considered a well-manicured trail - cleared of undergrowth and fallen

trees from the winter season. Whilst the challenge ahead remains at the extreme level to complete the course successfully - and in the required time, it certainly is made more achievable due to the work done by Parks Victoria to make the trails safer and more accessible.

Over the years the course has had many custodians and currently is managed by the team at trailsplus. In 2017 a 29km option was added from the Aqueduct at Langford Gap, also the finish line of the 35km traditional section. The final 29km was added to introduce runners to the high country and alpine trail running conditions, but without the full experience and fitness levels required to meet the extreme challenge of the 35km or full 64km course. The 29km provides that first step and also a pre-qualifier for the 35km in future years ultimately leading to a full course attempt. Whilst the 29km course is a great starting point, it none the less requires participants to carry the full mandatory kit that the full course runners do. We know too well that conditions in the high country can change very quickly and with runners’ safety our number one priority, there are no short cuts when it comes to equipment required to be carried.

The 2019 event sees several international

runners taking on this iconic event coming from France, New Zealand, Germany, UK, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Locally we see a solid representation of runners, from VIC, ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, and TAS. In keeping with the trailsplus belief that a trails runner’s experience should be a safe and memorable journey, the imposed limit of 100 runners across all events ensures this event remains at a grass roots level creating a more personal touch. While we are only days out from the event there are still places available in all distances, if you have the qualifying requirements and the mandatory equipment you are most welcome to join us, but must register online www.trailsplus.com.au/b2h.

Once again we are excited and looking forward to spending time in the high country and if you would like to get involved, if not as a runner then perhaps as a volunteer, we welcome a call or email to discuss the opportunities. Em: [email protected]. or call Brett Saxon 0418 557 052. •

We’re off – and after 34 years, the Bogong 2 Hotham still attracts some really serious athletes.

FALL LINESLocals in Action

Kevin’s Story. Race to Erase Cancer is a not-for-profit organisation run by a small group of Kiewa Valley locals

that combine a passion for cycling with helping people who have been diagnosed with Cancer and their families. Last year we distributed $680 to the local community.

On Saturday 8th December, Tawonga local Kevin Bradley set off on an Alpine Cycling Adventure through the Victorian High Country and NSW Snowy Mountains.

Over the next seven days he traversed some of the best Alpine Cycling roads in Australia. The adventure started in Tawonga and visited Tawonga Gap, Mt Hotham, Omeo, Falls Creek, Mount Beauty, Tallangatta, Walwa, Cabramurra, Adaminaby, Jindabyne, Thredbo, Tom Groggin, Geehi, Khancoban, Corryong before returning to Tawonga.

He rode 958km, climbed 15,666 vertical meters, burned 21,700 calories and lost over 1.5kg.

The weather was as varied as the terrain with temperatures from a low of 6°C riding through Kiandra to a top of 36°C in the Granya Valley. Sunshine, showers, torrential rain, thunder, lightning and local flooding were all encountered.

“The suffering I went through was nothing compared to the suffering of those fighting cancer”. “This is what kept me going every day” said Kevin.

Kevin would like to thank: Jaye Fatchen for keeping him company on the ride. Roz Bradley for driving the support vehicle and looking after us all week.

Locals in Action 2Jaye’s Story. The Race to Erase Cancer ride came about as I pulled out of an ultra-endurance event due to safety concerns and Kev Bradley suggested we do this ride instead.

We have both raised money for the RTEC but I’ve also been riding to raise money for a little boy in Colombia. His name is also Kevin. He is eight years old and loves

to laugh and listen to music. He was born with cerebral palsy and due to the lack of health care system in Colombia, was abandoned by his family. He now lives in the foundation created by professional cyclist Esteban Chaves. Esteban is Columbian and rides le Tour. He visited Falls Creek and trained here last summer where he made some great friends.

Esteban has also hard a time with injury. A crash nearly ended his cycling career, but he was able to find Dr Julio Snadoval who would perform an amazing 10 hour surgery and save his professional career. Between the two of them, they are advocating for change and helping to create medical facilities that are available to everyone.

FALL LINESThe money raised will change little Kevin’s life by helping him to walk. His problems are predominately motor skills, not mental, so this will give him a better chance to be adopted by a new family. Their next step is to raise some more money for five more children waiting in line and the final step is the beginning of the building of a specialist movement centre that will help doctors and physios decide on the type of surgery and to assist with rehabilitation.

The doctors are working pro bono on all surgeries, so the money for Kevin is to pay for his housing and rehabilitation which

will take up to a year.

If you feel like giving something small, it would really make a difference.

Milch Cafe Bar is also now a proud sponsor of the RTEC with their logo on the back of the new jerseys. If you would like to support Jaye and her efforts to help little Kevin, please go to: https://www.gofundme.com/kevin039s-christmas-legs. •

Buy a BaleThe Buy a Bale appeal came about during Winter when one of our business people had “one of her insomnia episodes, realising

that the drought we were in was far reaching.” It seemed unfair that we had so much when others had so little. This year, Jaye is making a more concerted effort to be aware, empathetic and create change where she can.

Great Success

Local lad Ben McIlroy is an up and coming Enduro mountain bike racer. Over the last two years he has

progressed to be the fastest junior rider in Australia winning both the National Series and the National Championships in 2016. On March 26 Ben went and raced his first ever EWS (Enduro World Series) event in Rotorua, New Zealand. Prior to the event Matt Rousu caught up with Ben to chat about the race and his potential future in the mountain bike world.MR: Is this your first overseas race?Ben: Yep, first overseas race, first EWS (Enduro World Series), so it’s going to be pretty exciting.MR: Is it excitement or are you nervous?Ben: I’m probably a bit more nervous than excited. Excited to race overseas, but nervous because it’s such a big event.MR: Have you heard anything about the tracks over in Rotorua, NZ?Ben: From what Chris (Panozzo) has said, they’re fast and there aren’t many rocks.MR: How did you get into riding?Ben: Pretty much because of my Dad,

when I was about 12 I started showing more interest in racing. I went to a few of the Victorian Enduro events but after a couple of years that series kind of fell apart. I then stared racing the national series.MR: How many national events have you raced?Ben: My first national year in 2015. I raced three events, Toowoomba, Adelaide, and Canberra and placed 3rd overall for the series. In 2016 I raced the Bright, Perth and Adelaide National series events winning all three and the U19 series overall. I then went on to win U19 National Champs in Adelaide (with a time that would have knocked Troy Brosnan off the elite podium).MR: How did you end up travelling and racing alongside Chris Panozzo (2 time Elite Gravity Enduro Australian champion)?Ben: I first met Chris at a Victorian Enduro state round at Barjarg, I was still like Under 15s or Under 17s and I knew that he was a fast dude. I wanted to hang out with the fast guys so I wanted to hang out with Chris Panozzo.I remember at Barjarg the shuttles were always a bit delayed, we were hanging out down the bottom for so long that we nearly missed our race runs. When we got to the top, everyone was wondering where we’d been. He was just like “Ah we’ve just been chilling at the bottom.” So that felt pretty cool. After that he invited me to travel with him to the next round at Narbethong. During that trip we decided not to race any more of the Vic series. I thought that I wouldn’t really continue racing but then Chris invited me to Toowoomba. That was my first national race and from then on we just became mates and he invited me along to all

of the races he was doing.MR: What are your goals for this year, more EWS or is going to be too hard to juggle school?Ben: I’m racing the EWS in New Zealand and in Tasmania but this year I want to finish Year 12 and get out alive, do as much riding as I can and stay fit. It’s probably not the best year to be going into my first EWS because Year 12 takes up such a massive chunk of my time.MR: Have you got any plans for further studies such as University, or depending on how these two EWS events go, would you like to chance it and try to become a professional racer?Ben: I haven’t really thought too much about it. Becoming a professional mountain biker would be pretty sick but you sort of do have to have another profession once you come out the other side.MR: Do you think you’d be able to develop a career and race at the same time?Ben: Yeah, looking at someone like Paul

Health and Well-BeingThe Health & Wellness Fair is a first for the West Peak Hotel. A day of health & well-being, at the time of year when we need to take care of ourselves, especially from Christmas and New Year. This day is a chance to sample a range of activities and find out a bit more information on taking better care of ourselves. Stress is a major factor these days, to the point we have no time for ourselves. This day will bring like-minded people together to enjoy contact and social interaction. We have a great bunch of therapists offering a chance to experience a wide range of therapies from yoga, meditation, tarot healing, essential oils, tai chi, naturopathy and hypnotherapy.

We are also very excited to bring a very special session from the Laughter Club in Myrtleford. Kym Goodman will be showing us how to really have a good belly laugh and express ourselves.

Another treat is a drumming circle presented by local Shaman Ashley, he will show you how drumming is a healing method. Bring a drum if you have one.

The workshops are $45 for a full day, includes lunch and fresh juice and over 12 workshops to choose from - 10am - 4pm

There will also be an indoor market running all day with over a dozen quality stalls. Come along and have your palm read, have henna, see what your aura looks like, there’s so much to offer on Sunday 6th January at West Peak Hotel.

Tickets are available online at trybooking.com, or on the day. Please note Yoga starts at 10am. Please bring a mat if you have one.

Great supporters have contributed and we have some wonderful Door Prizes. The organisers would like to thank: Nourish Foods, Tawonga South; Natalie @ Athletes Foot Albury; Mister Igor, AMP Lane; Derani Clean Alternative Co; Kerrin Ann Baxter from Calm Birth; Ash from Nutrition Warehouse Wodonga and Janet Rundle OCD Anxiety Group.

For more information there is an event on Facebook Events Health & Wellbeing Fair 2019 or phone 0407 797 228. •

NEW YEAR’S EVEThe only place to be!!

Are you looking for a family friendly, entertaining yet inexpensive event, with a great community vibe for

New Year’s Eve? Look no further than Mount Beauty’s Family Fun Night 2018 at the Mount Beauty Cricket Ground. The club have been busy all year preparing the annual community night and it is shaping up to be an absolute cracker. As previous, there will be live bands performing on our truck stage, great regional food and beverages and free activities to keep the young ones entertained. The live music will have you moving and grooving - bringing in the New Year in style!

Todd Cook: From Bruthen, Todd will be open with his Acoustic guitar/didgeridoo set.

He will have you settling in on the lawn nicely from 6pm.

Nicky Bomba: A local favourite and flag bearer for reggae music in Australia, Nicky has built a solid reputation in the music industry.

Bloomy & Foz: Great mates and young locals Will Bloom and Jarrah Forrer will be performing a mixed set of some acoustic country & blues tunes, then bust out the guitars and drums for your Triple J faves.

Geronimo: Three piece cover band from Melbourne playing all your pub rock singalong classics, such as Daryl Braithwaite, The Angels, Kiss and Guns & Roses, covering the 70’s through to now.

Free kid’s activities once again in their own special no alcohol section on the oval. Plus great regional food from local faves The Spice Trailer, Woodfire Desire pizzas and The Rotary Club Kranskys & Burgers BBQ – plus some sweets from visiting Bethany Ryan Pastries. The Juice Bar will be back selling mocktails and juices, and craft beer from Sweetwater Brewery will be showcased once again. Regional wines will be available from our Outdoor Cricket Club Bar. Water is freely available from the powered coolers so bring your water bottles to stay refreshed.

As this is a licenced event, strictly no BYO alcohol thank you.

The Mount Beauty Cricket Ground is accessible from the Childcare Centre, with gates open at 5pm and concluding shortly after the New Year. Parking is available at the playground area, tennis courts and both ends of the primary school, but you are encouraged to walk down, car pool, or get the taxi (0409 573 909). Bring a

blanket, deck chair or bean-bag and while you can bring a picnic, please support our wonderful caterers.

Tickets can be purchased at trybooking.com where early bird Adult prices are $20 before 29th December, or $30 at the gate on the night of the event. Youths are $5 and children are free. A special thanks to AGL and Alpine Shire for the generous sponsorship - ensuring ticket prices can be kept low and funds the free kid’s activities. See www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=434148 for tickets. You can also purchase early bird tickets from Mount Beauty Hardware – thanks to Karen and Campbell for kindly offering to sell tickets!

This event is purely volunteer based, and our cricket club members will be on hand to help you have a great night. This is a major fundraiser for the club, where money raised will enable the club to purchase new turf wicket covers, along with maintenance for the oval and pitch mowers.

Check facebook.com/nyemountbeauty and have a wonderful New Year’s Eve. •
