RUTLAND RECREATION &PARKS DEPARTMENT FACILITIES

Welcome! Things You Should Know.

2015 FALL PROGRAM

A s I write this update the Rotary Park projectis in full swing with early indications thatthe new French drains are working! Belden

Construction was awarded the project and startedin May with the removal of the building. The fieldproject includes three main drains and gradingthe field to improve drainage. FAQ on the parkinclude – Will the basketball court get put backin? The answer is that we will install hoops in theNorth Main Street parking lot with lines for halfcourt play. Will there be a walking path? This isa goal for a future phase to encourage active useof the park. Will there be a new building? Thisis another future phase with the addition of apavilion with restroom. Will the handball courtremain? Yes, we are keeping the handball court.

Have you seen the new light poles at theGodnick Center? Our parks staff fixed up thelight poles that were removed from Depot Park, retrofitted the bulbs with new LED lighting andinstalled the poles in June. The lights look greatand bring much needed light in the evening tothe parking lot.

What is an essential service? This discussionwill come up in the months ahead as wedetermine the cost for a new city pool and howit will get funded. In 1929 and 1969 pools weredetermined to be an essential community service. Will that still be the case in 2016 at the polls? Ourgoal is to be transparent through the process soyou can make an educated decision if the pool ison the ballot in March 2016. Visit our web site atrutlandrec.com for updated pool information.

The staff at the main office have loved havingkids around this summer with our art classes andtheatre classes. Our “new to us” space at the oldCourcelle Brothers Reserve building has beenworking out great. We encourage you to come byanytime for a tour of the building.

As summer winds down and fall approacheswe encourage you to GO PLAY! What is play? Wesee play as something that keeps you active andhappy. Play for me is biking, running, gardeningand playing gaga at events. What is your Play?Whatever your play is, make time to do it for yourhealth – both physical and mental.

Yours in community,
