Luella Elementary

Enrichment Cluster Information

Fall Enrichment Clusters will meet on Mondays from 1:30 – 2:10 PM beginning October 14th and ending on December 9th. Please choose three clusters, circle them on your cluster registration form and return it to your teacher as soon as possible. If a cluster has a supply fee do not send the money until you have received notification of which cluster you are in.

Listen and Draw

• Facilitators: Mrs. Conkle & Mrs. Fleck• Grades: K & 1• Find the artist inside as you develop fine

motor skills and learn to draw. You’ll be amazed at what you can do when you “listen and draw!”

Digging for Dinosaurs

• Facilitator: Mrs. Parris• Grades: K – 2• Have you ever wondered how dinosaurs were

named? What did they eat? When did they live? What are fossils? Become a paleontologist and discover the world of dinosaurs.

Games Galore

• Facilitator: Mrs. Thompson• Grades: K – 2• Do you enjoy learning how to play new

games? From board games to outdoor games, you’re sure to have fun exploring the world of games!

Brain Gym

• Facilitator: Mrs. Acree• Grades: K – 2• Want to make your brain stronger? In this

cluster, you will learn special exercises to help you stay focused and calm. You will play games that will improve your memory and thinking skills. Come work out at the Brain Gym!

Awesome Art

• Facilitator: Mrs. Bonner• Grades: K – 2• Do you enjoy painting and drawing? Have fun

learning about lines, shapes, colors and patterns while creating awesome art projects!

Cheerleading

• Facilitators: Mrs. Busby and Mrs. May• Grades: K – 2• Do you like to be active and talk loud? Learn

how to channel those skills and be part of a cheerleading squad. Cheerleading improves coordination and physical strength, besides being F- U- N. What’s that spell? Fun!

Piecing It Together

• Facilitators: Mrs. Adams & Ms. Brannan• Grades: K – 2• Challenge your puzzle skills with all types of

puzzles and even make your own! Have fun working with others as you “piece it together.”

Lego Engineers

• Facilitators: Mrs. Jefferson & Mrs. Gossett• Grades: K – 2• Ever dream of being an architect? Here’s your

chance to experiment with the basics of building and construction projects. Work with others and learn with Legos!

Quilt Creations

• Facilitator: Mrs. James• Grades: K – 2• Do you enjoy creating with fabric? Learn

about shapes and symmetry as you construct a beautiful quilt project that can be proudly put on display.

Edible Animals

• Facilitators: Mrs. Goodman & Mrs. O’Leary• Grades: 1 & 2• Make animals you can eat while learning

about their habitats too. We'll make a hedgehog with a pear, a butterfly with cookies, and a spider from an Oreo. Yummy!

Talking Hands

• Facilitator: Mrs. Tarno• Grades: 1 & 2• How do people communicate without using

their voice? In this cluster, you will learn American Sign Language through both words and song. Enjoy letting your hands do the talking!

İHola Luella!

• Facilitators: Dr. Montgomery & Mrs. Wagner• Grades: 1 & 2• Do you wish you could speak another

language? This is your chance! Learn beginning Spanish in this exciting cluster through songs and movement .

How Does Your Garden Grow?

• Facilitators: Ms. Little & Mrs. Kralick• Grades: 2-4• Do you have a green thumb and like to play in

the dirt? Do you think you can grow your own food? In this cluster you’ll find out as you plant vegetables and learn how to take care of a garden.

Parlez vous Français?

• Facilitator: Mr. Murchison• Grades: 2 – 5• Do you speak French? If not, here’s your

chance to learn the basics of the language and absorb some French culture.

The Knights of Chess

• Facilitator: Mrs. Stargell• Grades: 3 – 5• Sharpen your strategy and thinking skills by

learning to play the ancient game of Chess. Whether you are a beginner or an accomplished player there will be someone at your level to challenge.

Instruments and Song

• Facilitator: Mr. Floyd• Grades: 3 – 5• Practice playing the maracas, xylophone,

tambourine, and other instruments in this exciting cluster. You will learn to properly perform as a group of musicians.

Digital Storytelling

• Facilitator: Mrs. Freeman• Grades: 3 – 5• Learn how to transform your writing into a

visual masterpiece using computer graphics and other technology tools. When you are finished, you will have a product worthy to enter in the Luella Media Festival!

Game On!

• Facilitator: Ms. Bird• Grades: 3 – 5• Explore the world of games in this exciting

cluster! You will learn about different types of games from around the world along with their history. You will even get to create your own games!

Stamp It Up!

• Facilitator: Ms. Brooks• Grades: 3 – 5• Do you love stickers and stamps? This cluster

is your chance to use them along with your creativity to make personalized greeting cards, bookmarks and name tags, so sign-up and stamp it up!

From Couch to 5K

• Facilitator: Mrs. Huggins• Grades: 3 – 5• Are you ready to quit being a couch potato?

Build your physical endurance by setting running goals and learning breathing techniques. Before you can click a stopwatch you’ll be running the 5K!

Glee

• Facilitator: Mrs. Roe• Grades: 3 – 5• Would you like to be explore modern music

and be part of choral group? Then check out this cluster. There are no tryouts; everyone is welcome to come sing along!

Desserts & Designs

• Facilitators: Ms. Fluker & Ms. Masters• Grades: 3 – 5• Who doesn’t like desserts? Learn to make no-

bake desserts and set a beautiful holiday table by making your own decorations. This cluster will teach you to be the “host with the most!”

Walk Across America

• Facilitators: Mrs. Quick & Mrs. Odle• Grades: 3 - 5• Join us in our walk across the states! We’ll

plan our route from the Atlantic to the Pacific, add up all the miles we walk each week and plot our location on the map. How far can we go? Walkers wanted!

Lights, Camera, Action

• Facilitator: Dr. Schreiber• Grades: 3 – 5• Work with a production team to produce your

own videos in this cluster. You will learn to write a script, direct, act, run a video camera and edit your film. Stand by to roll…

• Facilitator: Mr. Stubbs• Grades: 3 – 5• Feel like you are in Mexico and able to speak

the language while participating in this cluster. Learn conversational Spanish in an exciting, interactive way.

Luella Actor’s Guild

Here’s your start! This cluster will help develop your acting skills and prepare you for a STAR-STUDDED performance!

Super Signers

• Facilitator: Mrs. Stokes• Grades: 3 - 5• Have you ever wished you could communicate

during the music in the lunchroom? Here’s your chance! In this cluster, you will learn about the history of American Sign Language. You will learn basic signs and prepare for a performance at the end. Enjoy letting your hands do the talking!

Fitness Fanatics

• Grades: 3 - 5• Have you ever wanted to be featured on

ESPN? Here’s your chance to learn all about the game of basketball. This cluster will focus on the behaviors and skills needed to become a great basketball star!

“Arttrepreneurs”

• Facilitator: Ms. Christian• Grades: 3 - 5• Ever dream of having your own art studio and

selling your creations? Here’s your chance! In this cluster you will create pieces of art, such as jewelry and pottery, and learn the skills needed to sell them.

remember forever? Let’s create a unique way to share our memories! In this cluster you will use paper, stickers, stamps, and more to preserve your photos in a unique way.

• Facilitators: Ms. Warren and Ms. Mays• Grades: 3 - 5• Want to learn to live a healthy lifestyle? Let us

help you out! In this cluster, we will learn about healthy eating choices and how to keep our bodies in shape.

Puzzle Mania

• Facilitator: Mrs. Wilkes• Grades: 3 - 5• Challenge your logical and critical thinking

skills in this cluster. We will work on different types of puzzles and learn how to turn a puzzle into a piece of artwork.

• Facilitator: Ms. Blair• Grades: 3 - 5• Have you ever wanted to report the news?

Here’s your chance! In this cluster, you will learn the basics of writing a news story for an online audience. Other topics will include photojournalism, interview skills, writing styles and online blogging.

Gross Anatomy

• Facilitator: Mrs. Robenalt & Mrs. Holzman• Grades: 4 & 5• Do your future goals include being a doctor,

nurse or forensic pathologist? Enjoy learning about the systems of the human body using experiments and games and amaze your friends with gross, fun facts.

Cool Chemistry

• Facilitator: Mrs. Burton• Grades: 4 & 5• Are the experiments your favorite part of

science? If so, join us! In this cluster, we will investigate the mysteries of mixtures.

Voices of Luella

• Facilitator: Ms. Hardy• Grades: 4 & 5 Females• Do you have dreams of being on The Voice? Or

maybe performing at the Luella Talent Show is more your speed. Let me help you! You will learn the genres of music, musical terms and the art of vocal performance.

The Great Debaters

• Facilitator: Ms. Pagan• Grades: 4 & 5• Is the legal profession in your future? Get a

head start by joining this cluster! You will learn to communicate using research to defend a particular point of view.

Promote the Positive

• Facilitator: Mr. Wood• Grades: 4 & 5 Males• Develop leadership skills while accentuating

the positive in this unique cluster. You will participate in a variety of activities, including campus beautification, debates, speeches, cook-outs, and book talks.

Luella Ladies’ League

• Facilitator: Mrs. Milner• Grades: 4 & 5 Females• Do you want to be a leader among your

peers? Come and join our cluster. We will discuss issues important to the well-being of young ladies in our community. We will learn strategies to help present ourselves in a positive way.

Flight Academy

• Facilitator: Ms. Winters• Grade: 5• Do you want to be a pilot? Get your start

here! You will learn about the history of flight, Bernoulli’s Principle and Newton’s Third Law. You will use flight simulators to experience piloting your own plane.
