A NOTE FROM YOUR DISTRICT PRESIDENT

A big thank you goes to everyone who attended our first Peninsula District Virtual Fall Conference. It was great to see all your smiling faces. Congratulations to all

the clubs and individuals that were recognized for their accomplishments during 2019. I have a feeling that the club presidents are using their imagination to figure out ways to keep club meetings and projects going. I have had the pleasure of attending a couple of club meetings and am impressed with all that they are doing and planning. Please feel free to share your ideas with the rest of the members. A good way to do this immediately and not have to wait for a newsletter to be published is to contact our Team Webmasters, Rita and Dale Loseth at [email protected] and they will be happy to post it for you. I would like to challenge each club to send an article about their club to the webmasters during the month of December. For all those that follow through with this challenge we will put the club names into a drawing. Not sure what you will win yet but it will be something that your club can use. As your Peninsula District President I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving. With everything that has been going in this world lately I find myself forgetting about all the things that I have to thankful for. One thing that I will never forget is how thankful I am for my family and each and every one of you. Thank you for being a part of my life and making it better.

In Federation Love,

Cindy Bassage

A DAY WORTHWHILE

I count that day as wisely spent In which I do some good For someone who is far away Or shares my neighborhood.

A Day devoted to the deed That lends a helping hand And demonstrates a willingness To care and understand.

I long to be of usefulness In little ways and large Without a selfish motive And without the slightest charge.

Because in my philosophy There never is a doubt That all of us on earth Must help each other out.

I feel that day is fruitful And the time is worth the while When I promote the happiness Of one enduring smile.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – By Gail Crump October was Domestic Violence Month. Under Domestic Violence we have several categories, please note this in your list of programs. Today I’m going to look at two that are of the utmost concern with the Corona Virus affecting us. The quarantine going on in households is bringing on a lot of violence.

Couples and even their children are witnessing violence with their parents. Domestic abuse has risen with the pandemic. As members we need to keep our eyes and ears open to what is going on around us and consult help if need be. Encourage couples to get help. The other program I wish to address is the trafficking of children. Traffickers may be men and women. The favorite age for the traffickers starts at age thirteen and can be a boy or girl. Now that most students are doing virtual schooling on computers, it is opening them up to all the predators that surf the internet. As a lot of you might know, I am an Ambassador for Shared Hope International, which is working to stop the traffickers and save the children. As an Ambassador we speak to groups what to watch out for and how to prosecute the traffickers. I became inactive with Shared Hope when I was fighting my cancer, but have kept in contact through their newsletters. Recently I have gotten a newsletter introducing a webinar series they are doing that is free and is open to anyone who wants to participate. It will cover six key issue areas of their Advanced Legislative Frameworks which will be released in November. There will be twelve webinars dealing with how we can advance protections for child victims of sex trafficking and end the injustice. If anyone is interested in following up on the webinars, give me a call (253-380-1632) and I can help you get started. This might be a good club project. While many people claim to be opposed to human sex trafficking it is fueled by pornography and the porn industry. In 2000 the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) was passed. One positive blowback of the TVPA was that it brought attention to domestic sex trafficking --pimping -- which follows the same models and patterns as its international counterparts. The TVPA’s definition of Adult sex trafficking: a commercial sex act induced by force, fraud, or coercion. The last word, coercion, is important. It means that a commercial sex act can be sex trafficking, even if no one was physically assaulted, even if no one was tricked or defrauded. The moment a victim is coerced or intimidated into a commercial sex act against his or her will, sex trafficking has occurred. But in minors force fraud/coercion don’t have to be proven. An individual bullies their spouse into prostituting themselves. Family members may be threatened if the victim won’t perform. Today a lot is happening with everyone during the pandemic and we have to take care of our families and ourselves. There is a lot of fear going on in our lives right now, so please take care.
