Delivering for University—Rosedale
We have made investing in families and communities a top priority because they are the
foundation of our economy. Our plan is working. We’re creating more good paying, middle
class jobs for Canadians so we can all prosper.
Canada holds the best fiscal position among G7 countries. That’s because our government’s
top priority is to make smart and responsible investments to strengthen the middle class, grow
the economy, and prepare Canadians for the economy of tomorrow.
Investments that work
for all Canadians
The unemployment rate
has dropped to 6.3%, its
lowest in 5 years. 6.3%
Our economy has
created over 300,000
new jobs in 12 months.
NEW
JOBS
GDP growth was 4.5% in
the Second Quarter of
2017. 4.5%
Our government knows that to be successful
in the highly competitive global economy,
Canada must continue to perform world-
leading research and generate new
breakthrough ideas.
That’s why I was so pleased to announce
that we are investing more than $52 million
into the scientists, engineers and students
who are at the very heart of Canadian dis-
covery and innovation at the University of
Toronto.
This announcement represents a portion of
the more than $515 million that is being put
towards researchers across the country; it is
one of the single-largest annual investments
in fundamental research.
It is through these and many of our other
actions that our government is demonstrat-
ing its value for science and our country’s
hard-working scientists. Discovery and
innovation opens up possibilities for
improving everyone’s quality of life.

YOUTH COUNCIL We are making it easier for our young
Canadians to have their say. Our Youth
Council is made up of young people from
our local schools, neighbourhoods, and
community associations, between the ages
of 12 and 18. As a part of the Liberal
Government’s commitment to meaningful
youth engagement in Canada’s govern-
ment, the Youth Council has been tasked
with designing a project proposal to im-
plement nationwide. They have also had
the chance to meet other Ministers, includ-
ing Minister Hajdu and Minster Sajjan.

Canada Day 150 BBQ
Toronto Pride Parade
Fast in the 6
We believe strongly in equal rights for all individuals, including
LGBTQ2 rights, and we are committed to ensuring that our laws
reflect our Canadian values. That’s why I was very proud to march in
the Toronto Pride parade with my daughters and so many friends
from the University-Rosedale team this year. Once again we
were joined by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, members of our caucus,
and an amazing number of volunteers!
Thank you to all who joined the University-Rosedale team for our
Canada Day BBQ at Christie Pits Park. It was a really great turnout and
we always appreciate the chance to talk to our friends and
neighbours. This was a wonderful way to celebrate Canada 150.
Looking forward to making this an annual tradition!

Dear Chrystia,
Ukrainian Festival
I was proud to march with MPs Borys Wrzesnewskyj, Arif
Virani and Julie Dzerowicz, along with my daughters in the Toronto
Ukrainian Parade! It was also an honour to speak at the opening
ceremonies of the 21st annual Toronto Ukrainian festival which is the
largest in North America!
It was my great pleasure to speak at this year's Fast in the 6, an event
celebrating Ramadan. This event was a true testament to the diversity
and openness of our great city and our great country. Events like
this make me especially proud to represent both our riding of
University-Rosedale and Canada. I want to thank the organisers and
volunteers for their vision and their hard work in making this event
happen. (photo credit: Shannon Charnock/Young Voices Toronto)

I have been astounded and moved by the extremely high level of support and collaboration on NAFTA. It extends across the political spectrum. It is reflected in the high calibre of the people who recently joined our NAFTA Council. These members set partisan politics aside to work to pursue the national interest. This is because of this fundamental reality: the Canada-U.S. economic relationship is the most significant, the most mutually beneficial, and the most effective anywhere in the world.
We know that. And, particularly after six months of constant reminders from their
friends in the north, our American neighbours now know it, too.
Trade is about people. It’s about creating the best possible conditions for growth, for jobs, and for prosperity.
Thanks to NAFTA, the North American economy is highly integrated, making our companies more competitive in the global marketplace and creating more jobs on our continent.
I am sure Canadians appreciate that the path to getting there could well include some moments of excitement as well as a
few moments of drama.
I am no stranger myself to moments of drama in trade talks. We are delighted CETA has been signed, ratified, and was provisionally applied on September 21st.
Strong economic fundamentals are a compelling argument for bolstering what works, and improving what can be made better.
Our mission is clear. We are in this effort for all Canadians — and beyond that, for the broader North American community. Because if we get this right, the working people of all three countries will benefit.
Canada, the United States, and Mexico have a powerful shared interest in reaching a mutually beneficial agreement.

there parts that should be updated? Are
there any new sections that should be
