We are part of a national network, Feeding America, who leads the way for us to tell the story of hunger in our community and work with national partners to secure the food we need. We are part of a statewide network, the Iowa Food Bank Association, which provides idea sharing and advocacy among all eight Iowa food banks. We have partner agencies all across our 11 county service area who acquire food from us and offer it directly to those in need. We have food producers and food donors who help keep our warehouse supplied with food for those agencies. We have volunteers and donors who offer time and treasure to help us achieve our essential mission: to ensure that no one in Siouxland goes hungry. We absolutely could not do it alone. Earlier this year we were able to add a second scissors lift to an additional dock door - also funded through a grant and representing another long-held wish come true. We couldn’t be more grateful! Compassion: Business partners, organizations willing to partner with us and pitch in to help in so many ways … all motivated by understanding there is need and they can help. In ways large and small, together we are taking a stand against hunger. As we approach the end of our fiscal year on September 30, it’s clear that this has been a time of dramatic growth. Sadly, there more people in need due to unemployment or underemployment or unexpected developments in life that prevent them from having enough money to go to the grocery store and buy what they need for themselves and their family. That means more food required to meet the demand. We see it as a double-edged sword: it’s sad that so many are in need, and yet it’s gratifying to know how many we have been able to help. It’s this mission, these goals and accomplishments that help drive us forward each day. Much has been done, and yet there is so much more to do. Because we know that together we can solve hunger. Golfing for an Important Cause

This year marked the thirteenth annual “Will Golf for Food” Charity Golf Tournament for the Food Bank of Siouxland held on August 1, 2016. We are so grateful for the participation and support of golfers, sponsors, donors, and volunteers that made this tournament a record breaking success with over $23,000 raised! Proceeds will be used to secure food that will be distributed to agencies that feed those in need all over Siouxland. Because we are able to secure 13 pounds of food for each dollar donated, the impact will be significant.

This year’s first place team was Pioneer Wooldridge Insurance, followed by Central Bank in second place, and Interbake Foods (Team #1) in third place. A fun day was had by all, which ultimately will impact our ability to carry out our mission to help ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.

Fareway Stores Our retail store donation program is an essential component of our efforts to provide nutritious food for those is need. In June, our tremendously generous partners at Fareway donated TWELVE PALLETS OF EGGS!! That’s half a truckload and one mighty big omelet ... or lots of them for the many who are hungry.

Local PartnershipsBackPack Program: Food for Kids Volunteer Groups This program of the Food Bank provides nutritious, child-friendly food every Friday during the school year to elementary school children in eight area schools who may be receiving free meals at school during the week, but show signs of chronic hunger on Monday morning.

Since this program began in 2006, volunteer groups have generously given of their time to fill up to approximately 1,800 sacks of food each week for distribution to the students in need. Last year alone, over 40 different volunteer groups from businesses, churches, schools, colleges, and social organizations lent us a helping hand.

This program is a true partnership among donors, volunteers, the school districts, and the Food Bank. If you have a group of 10 – 15 that is interested in helping, please contact Debbie Hubbard at 712-255-9741.

Tyson Foods, Inc. Our friends and partners at Tyson Foods have made a tremendous impact during this fiscal year! Whether we need volunteers (i.e., sorting foods from a large food drive), financial support via their grant program, food (over 120,000 pounds donation this fiscal year!) or expertise in helping to guide our warehousing work via their Community Impact Day program, Tyson has been extraordinary in their involvement and generosity.

Food Bank of Siouxland, Inc. Mission Statement:The Food Bank of Siouxland, a nonprofit organization, strives to be responsive to the needs of its agencies, donors, and volunteers by efficiently soliciting and distributing food to feeding programs for the needy.

We have been fortunate over the years to have had many board members that go above and beyond to further the mission of the Food Bank of Siouxland. Robbie Rohlena is just that . . . an all star board member. Joining the Food Bank board of directors in 2013, she has served on numerous Fundraising Committees and on the Executive Committee as the Vice President of

the board. She repeatedly demonstrates her belief in the mission of the Food Bank by playing a key role in all fundraising events while generously donating her time, talents, and treasure. She is also a steadfast supporter and volunteer for the Food Bank’s BackPack Program: Food for Kids. A clear thinker and strategic planner, she is valued for her help in furthering the efforts of the Food Bank.

Originally from Sioux City, she was employed by Morningside College for 27 years as a math instructor, Dean of Students, and later as the Dean of Enrollment. Since retiring from the College in 2012, she has worked at Koated Kernels alongside her daughter, B.J. McClellan, who started that business along with her sister, Beth Boettcher. She and her husband are the proud parents of four and grandparents of eight. Dedicated to her community, she has also been active in her church, Mary J. Treglia Community House and several other organizations.

We thank you, Robbie, for always going above and beyond to make a difference in our fight against hunger.

The Food Bank of Siouxland is partnering with Leave a Message Siouxland (LAMS), a local awareness campaign, to inform and inspire donors to consider including a gift to charity in their estate plans.

Naming the Food Bank of Siouxland as the beneficiary of a planned estate gift is a way to

join us in the fight against hunger. A gift through your will, insurance policies, or other planned giving options is a way to make a legacy gift that will touch the lives of so many hungry children, families, and elderly people in Siouxland.
