9/11 Remembrance Day: September 9, 2016 Benjamin J. Dineen III and Dennis C. Hull Gallery 12 p.m. to 3 p.m, FREE

In honor of the fifteenth anniversary of 9/11, HCCC invites the greater Hudson County community to 9/11 Remembrance Day at the Benjamin J. Dineen III and Dennis C. Hull Gallery. Join us for light fair and the opening reception of World Trade Views: Mickey Mathis. Before 9/11, a community pho-tography installation, opens to the public in the Benjamin J. Dineen III and Dennis C. Hull Gallery Atrium. Selected readings of Personal Reflections of 9/11 will be performed in the Benjamin J. Dineen III and Dennis C. Hull Gallery. For more information, email [email protected].

“The Journal Square Campus provided an unobstructed view of the World Trade Center on 9/11. Hundreds of students and staff stood on the sidewalks and street watching in horror as the events of the morning unfolded. I remember the collective moan as the crowds saw the first and then the second building come down. We shut down the campus later that morning and made our facilities available to public authorities, and we remained closed for several days. If the wind blew toward the west, what seemed to be little pieces of soot fell like rain from the sky, and there was a strange smell. Many of the PATH police who were killed were based out of the Journal Square Station. For days afterwards, it was sobering to see cars towed from parking lots near the campus as the realization came that their driv-ers would not be coming back. So many members of the College community had personal connections to those who were lost. What I found so remarkable at the time—and still do—is that during and afterwards, the College community continued to be a welcoming environment for everyone, one that celebrated our diversity. Hudson County Community College is a special place.”

– Glen Gabert, Ph.D. President

A brief dalli-ance with drug trafficking while she was in her early twenties sent Kerman to prison 10 years later on money laundering charges. Her experience in prison provides the basis for the award-winning comedy-drama Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.

Our Mission:The mission of the Hudson County Community College Department of Cultural Affairs is to provide supplementary programs to stimulate awareness of the arts and foster creativity. We strive to complement the efforts of HCCC with cultural events, community programs, and educational initiatives. Our goal is to transcend the understanding of visual and performing arts by closing the distance between the experience of art and everyday life in the community we serve.
