An instructor must possess strong communication, organizational and teaching skills; and demonstrate a desire to develop and promote their program(s).Programsareselectedbasedontheinstructor’squalificationsand experience, availability, need for the program and marketability. The Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) presented

the Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department with its 2011

Agency of the Year award for cities with a population between

20,001-30,000 in recognition of the department’s outstanding

contributions in the delivery of parks, recreation and leisure

services. The award was presented to the department during the

GRPA Annual Conference and Trade Show in August. GRPA was

formed in 1945 as a private, non-profit institution to support and

promote the recreation and park industries within the state of

Georgia. It is the only state organization that serves as an

advocate for quality recreation and park areas, facilities,

programs and services at the local level. For more information,

BenROBeRTsOnCOmmUnITyCenTeR, 2753WATTsDRIVeWhether you’re planning a business meeting for 200 guests or a small event with a few relatives, the City of Kennesaw invites you to experience the value, convenience and simplistic style of the Ben Robertson Community Center.

Interior accommodations include a 1,687-square-foot pre-function lobby area, a 3,952 – square-foot banquet hall and two 840-square-foot meeting rooms that can be joined to form a large meeting room. There is ample parking and the entrance features a porte-cochere with interior vestibule to provide shelter for arriving guests.

The banquet hall can accommodate theater-style seating for more than 250 and banquet-style seating for approximately 200. More intimate settings are available for smaller groups in the meeting rooms. The banquet hall features an optional wood parquetdancefloor(upto2,000squarefeet)andaprofessionaltheater with a 16'x 20' stage. In the rear of the banquet hall, a catering kitchen comes equipped with a microwave, ice machine, oven/stove, refrigerator, sink and counter space.

The Ben Robertson Community Center is conveniently located just minutes from I-75 near the intersection of Cobb Parkway/US-41 and Watts Drive (near the entrance to Adams Park). Nearby attractions include the Southern Museum (a member of theprestigiousSmithsonianAffiliationsProgram),KennesawMountainNationalBattlefieldParkandTownCenterMall.There are over a dozen lodging options within a two-mile radius and whether you prefer casual or elegant dining, endless choices of restaurants and eateries are within a short drive.

sWIFT-CAnTRellPARK,3140OlD41hIGhWAySwift-Cantrell Park serves as one of the premier recreation, relaxation and central gathering places for Kennesaw area residents. Park hours of operation are from 7:00am to 10:00pm. At 42 acres, the City of Kennesaw’s largest community park features:•Twoage-appropriateplaygrounds•Dogpark•Threepicnicpavilions•Tworestroombuildings•Onemileperimeterasphalttrail•ShadestructuresPARKInGParking is available for approximately 170 vehicles. Additional parking is available at Kennesaw Elementary School, 3155 Jiles Road, weekdays after 5:30pm and weekends from 7:00am to 10:00pm. An entry gate into the park is accessible behind the school. The speed limit is 10 mph within park boundaries.

SKATE SPOTA free wooden skate spot is located along the western edge of the property. The skate spot is an unsupervised facility. The City of Kennesaw does not assume any responsibility for loss or injury. Skateboarding and/or skating can be a hazardous recreational activity. For personal safety, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that users wear protective equipment at all times, which includes helmets, shoes, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards. Children ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

DOGRUlesDogs must be on an appropriate chain, leash or tie not exceeding 6 feet in length andinthehandsofapersonwhopossessestheabilitytorestrainthe animal atalltimes.Dogsareprohibitedonplaygrounds.Pleasecleanup afteryourpet.Disposable plastic waste bags and receptacle stations are located throughout the park.

FRAnKBOOneDOGPARKThe 1.4 acre off-leash dog park, located along the western edge of the property, has 6-foot-high perimeter fencing, two separate run areas (for large and small dogs), a watering station, dog wash area and disposable plastic waste bags and receptacle stations.

Swift-Cantrell Park has three 1,320-square-foot open-air pavilions, each with enough picnic tables and charcoalgrillstoaccommodate60people.Pavilionscanbereservedin advance,ormaybeusedatnochargeonafirst-come,first-servebasis.Rates startat only $10 per hour for a City of Kennesaw resident. It’s the 3rd annual race for more play space! Proceeds will benefit the Swift-Cantrell Foundation for capital improvements to Swift-Cantrell Park. The 5K course will take runners from Kennesaw First Baptist Church on Main Street towards Swift-Cantrell Park, making a loop inside the park, and then going back up Old 41 Highway/Main Street for an unforgettable finish in downtown Kennesaw. The race will be electronically timed for fast and accurate results. Awards will be presented in 14 groups. Pre-registration is $25 per person and includes a commemorative t-shirt, race packet and pancake breakfast. 17 years old and weight at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate

blood every 56 days. Donating blood is a simple thing to do, but it can make a big difference in the lives of others. The donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about 45 minutes. The donation itself only takes about 8-10 minutes.

Gather ‘n’ Grow Garden Dedicated to dirty hands and happy hearts, the new Gather ‘n’ Grow Garden is a space for playful learning for all ages. You have to see it to believe it! Riot of Color Smith-Gilbert Gardens Riot of Color is a competition/exhibition which is intended to encourage diverse artistic interpretations of the plant material, sculpture and historic home located at Smith-Gilbert Gardens in Kennesaw, Georgia. Its goals are to bring together serious artists that use visual art as a major interpretive medium of the landscape while also raising awareness of the need to protect our environment and encourage a future generation of caretakers of our planet. Two hour party blocks are available on Saturdays from 11:00am-1:00pm, 2:00pm-4:00pm and 5:00pm-7:00pm, and include a one hour of structured activities and one hour in a party room*. Parties must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. The fee is $150 for up to 10 children; or $175 for 11-20 children. Parties are limited to a maximum of 20 children. Choose from four different themes!

To schedule a party, visit the Ben Robertson Community Center during regular office hours (Mon-Fri, 8:00am-5:00pm). A registration form will need to be completed. Fees are due at time of registration. All children attending the party will be required bring a signed Waiver of Liability form (provided at registration) on the day of the party, or they will be unable to participate. Only the child’s parent or legal guardian may sign the form. A “party planner” will contact you at least one week before your scheduled party to discuss details.

The City of Kennesaw has built a reputa-tion of offering quality day camps that

provide engaging life experiences in a safe, caring, and accepting environment; where

creativity and curiosity is encouraged, and the emphasis is on having fun. During the summer

of 2012, the City of Kennesaw will maintain this tradition by offering youth ages5-12theopportunitytoimprovetheirself-confidence,buildself-esteem,and make new friends at Kennesaw's All-Star Summer Day Camp.Eleven weeks of camp will be offered from May 29 through August 10. Each week of camp is based on a different theme, which is incorporated into scheduled activities whenever possible. Some weeks may include special guest speakers,demonstrationsorfieldtripstoareaattractions.Camphoursarefrom 9:00am-4:00pm. Early care is available from 7:30am-9:00am. Extended care is available from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Our camp staff is comprised of well-trained, caring, enthusiastic adults who are determined to provide a safe and enjoyable summer camp experience. AllstaffareCPRandfirstaidcertifiedandareexpectedtoadheretothehighestprofessional standards set forth by the City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department. Throughout the summer, staff are continuously evaluated and provided with feedback to enhance their performance. We maintain a low camper-to-staff ratio of approximately 9:1. Kennesaw's All-Star Summer Day Camp is located at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive (near the entrance to Adams Park).

eARlyCARe&eXTenDeDCAReWeekly early care and extended care for All-Star Summer Day Camp partici-pants is available for an additional fee. Under the supervision of camp staff, children can independently choose and engage in a variety of activities includ-ing arts and crafts, games, puzzles, reading, drawing or simply socializing with friends.

ReGIsTRATIOnInFORmATIOnRegistrationisacceptedonafirst-come,first-servebasisuntilthemaximumnumber of campers is reached, or until the Wednesday before the week of camp. Activity fees are due at time of registration. No exceptions will be made. Fees will not be pro-rated for partial attendance.

REfUnd POliCyRegistration fees less a $30.00 cancellation fee will be refunded for all requests received by the Wednesday prior to the start of the camp week. No refunds will be given after the start of a camp. Failure to attend does not entitle the partici-pant to transfer, make up, or receive a refund.

TRAnSfER REQUESTSTransfer requests from one camp week to another are subject to space availability. All transfer requests must be received by the Wednesday prior to the camp week that your child is enrolled. A $5.00 transfer fee will apply.

WAITInGlIsTsIf a camp week is full, a wait list will be generated. To be added to a wait list, a camp registration form must be completed. Your child may not be added to a wait list by a phone call, e-mail or hand written note. If an opening becomes available, parents will be contacted in the order in which their child was added to the wait list. Children added to a wait list are not guaranteed enrollment.

PiCK UP TiMESAll campers must be picked up between 4:00pm and 4:15pm, or by 6:00pm if registered for extended care. We reserve the right to charge a late pick up fee of $1.00 per minute/per child. If you know you will be late, please call (770) 422-9714. Your child will remain with our camp staff up to one hour after the program ends. After one hour, Cobb County Child Protective Services may be called.

CAmPATTIRe&PeRsOnAlITemsAll campers should wear comfortable clothing each day. bRiTiSH SOCCER CAMP Challenger Sports' British Soccer Camps provide young players of all abilities with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts right in the heart of their own community. Campers will be exposed to individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games and scrimmages. Soccer skills are coached within a framework of character development based on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship. We offer a cultural education too! Our ever-popular Camp World Cup Tournament allows us to introduce players to the geography, traditions and culture of other great soccer-playing countries. Simply put, amazing coaches, awesome accents and cultural ingredients combine for a

one-of-a-kind camp experience. With each week-long camp, your child will receive a free t-shirt, soccer ball, giant fold-out poster, and a personal player evaluation. Supplies: Campers should bring a packed lunch with a beverage, snacks and plenty of water each day. All campers should arrive at

The City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department offers a non-competitive, youth recreational gymnas-tics program at the Ben Robertson Community Center. Developmental and progressive gymnastics instruc-tion is taught in a safe and fun environment. Year-round participation is encouraged, but not required. Our facility features 3,500 square feet of space, central air-conditioning and heating, conve-nient parking, a comfortable viewing area for family and spectators, a built-in stereo system, a 40’ Tumbl Trak, uneven bars, parallel bars, climbing rope, ceil-ing-hung rings, level 4 vault system, high, mid and low balance beams... and an array of colorful hoops, inclines, tumbling mats, skill shapes and spring boards. The City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with Daystar Dance Academy, offers a recreational dance program in several disciplines including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, cheerleading and musical theater; as well as dance company programs designed to enhance training and provide additional performance opportunities. Daystar believes in reaching out to tomorrow’s stars in a caring, loving and disciplined environment. The recreational program focuses on a comprehensive education starting in the fall, and concluding in the spring with an end-of-year performance. Classes and camps are offered during the summer months. Dance company programs are invitation only, or by audition for dancers new to Daystar. ReGIsTRATIOnInFORmATIOnAll City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation activities are open to the public. We offer four convenient ways to register for activities:

Activity fees are due at time of registration. Checks should be made payable to the “City of Kennesaw”. Visa®, MasterCard® and American Express® credit cards are accepted. Individuals paying with cash are asked to bring exact change.

AGeReQUIRemenTsAge requirements have been established to safely facilitate age-appropriate activities.Participantsmustbetheappropriateagebythefirstdayoftheactivityin order to register.

ReGIsTRATIOnDeADlIneRegistrationisacceptedonafirst-come,first-servebasisuntilthemaximumnumberofparticipantsisreached,orsevendayspriortothefirstactivitydate,unless otherwise stated.

refunded for all requests received prior to the start of the second class. No refunds will be given after the start of the second class.•Forworkshopcancellations,yourregistrationfeeslessa$5cancellationfee

non-resident user fees. To receive this exemption, registration must be made in person at the Ben Robertson Community Center. Proof of age is required at time of registration.

When Cobb County public schools are closed due to inclement weather, all City of Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department activities will be cancelled. Most majormediasitesarenotifiedofCobbCountySchoolDistrictclosings.

emeRGenCyCAnCellATIOnsIf an activity is unexpectedly cancelled due to an emergency, the instructor will make every effort to contact participants and reschedule the activity.
