Flag Football (grades 1-4)These football programs are offered cooperatively by the cities of New Hope, Crystal, Golden Valley, Plym-outh, Robbinsdale and St. Louis Park. All participants will receive a t-shirt.

Instructional Program: (grades 1-2)This program teaches kids football skills through various drills. They will also play very low-key games. This six-week program is for kids in grades 1-2. Youth WrestlingThis pro-gram, for kids in grades K-6, will help your child de-velop proper wrestling techniques and a positive competitive attitude. The emphasis will be on having a great time with the sport of wrestling. Little TigersChildren ages 3-5 will learn basic self-defense and martial arts skills while working on developing coordination and flexibility. Master Tom Malone teaches basic kicks and punches through a variety of exercises and fun games. This program promotes focus, discipline and respect. Archery This program is for youth ages 8 and older. All levels are welcome to join this class. Youth will receive instruc-tion according to their skill levels. These classes are designed to enhance motor skill, social and perceptual growth by teaching safe, age appro-priate foil fencing skills to each child. All equipment is provided. Slacklining/ Rock ClimbingHow adventuresome are you? How is your balance? This course for youth ages 9 to 14 will explore two awesome outdoor activities. Part of the morning will be spent slacklining, a practice in balance: think of it as a cross between tightrope walking and using a trampo-line! The other part of the morning will be spent learning about techniques and equipment used for rock climbing. You’ll have a chance to see how high you can climb on a 25 foot climbing wall. All equipment and instruction provided by Three Rivers Park District. Participants must provide their own transportation to and from French Regional Park. A special waiver form and additional infor-mation will be sent in advance. Register by September 26. Tennis LessonsLike our summer tennis lessons, we will teach children the basic skills of tennis, help them stay physi-cally fit, and familiarize them with a great game to play with old and new friends! Revolutionary Sports- MightyStars SoccerThe MightyStars program is designed for youth ages 5-8, who wish to further enhance basic skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting. Par-ticipants will have the opportunity to play in games and learn the values of sportsmanship and teamwork while having fun in a semi-competitive environment. Emphasis is placed on team play and sportsmanship. This class is suitable for new and existing players. Teeny, Tiny TappersThis program is for children with birthdates between June 2, 2009-January 1, 2010. Here is the chance for the younger ones to have some fun in a tap and ballet class. This class will be offered for three sessions (fall, winter and spring), but new dancers will not be accepted after the fall class. This group of dancers will not dance in the spring recital. New Hope Tumblers Competitive GymnasticsBe a part of New Hope’s competitive gymnastics program! This competi-tive program is part of the Minnesota Amateur Gymnastics Association (MAGA), which is an organization that offers children, ages 6-18, competition against other Recreation programs. To be eligible for the team, gymnasts must be currently enrolled in an ad-vanced or advanced 2 class through New Hope Parks and Recreation. Tryouts will be held on Tuesday, Sep-tember 11 and teams will be formed. Practices will start on September 13 and 14. An informational meeting will be held in August at Sandburg School.

Tumbling Tots: Parent/ChildThis is a great program to start your pre-schooler on their way to developing basic gymnastics and tumbling skills. The kids, with the help of a parent and our gymnastics staff, will develop gross motor skills through tumbling, get an introduction to the various pieces of gymnastics equipment, and have lots of fun and games. A parent must participate! Skateboard CampThis camp, for ages 6-15, is for begin-ner through expert skate boarders. Campers should bring a skateboard and hel-met. Knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards are highly recommended. Rink Rat HockeySpend the best months of winter playing hockey outdoors! This is a co-rec program for boys and girls ages 5-12. The program consists of two pre-season practices and eight instruc-tional games. Volunteer coaches instruct and officiate all games. There will be no goalies, just goal covers. Home games will be played in New Hope. Games will also be played in near-by communities. Games will be rescheduled in the event of cancellations (weather permit-ting). Participants must provide their own transportation and equipment (hockey skates, stick, helmet with mask, mouth guard, shin pads, hockey gloves, elbow pads and protective cup if applicable). Schedules will be mailed to all participants the week of December 26. League jersey and participation award will be given. Register by December 7. Little Mozarts Keyboard CampStudents ages 4-6, get a jump start on piano skills with the popular “Music for Little Mozarts” series. This semi-private class (two kids per session) includes music facts, movements, singing, per-cussion instruments and time on the keyboard. Learn about the classical music of Mozart, Beethoven, and other composers. Purchase the first piano book for $8 at the first class. Registra-tion deadline is one week prior. New Hope Skating SchoolNew Hope Skating School classes are based on the Ice Skating Institute’s (ISI) Recreational Ice Skating Program for ice skaters 3 years of age and older. Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta are all skill levels of the testing program. Classes are taught by Dawn Landon and her fine staff. Participants will need their own skates with guards. Back to School Special – September 19Join us for an entertaining and infor-mative morning with Dr. Aldo Sicoli, Superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools, and Story Theater, a group of older adults that has been providing dramatic readings that make stories come alive to children of all ages for 20 years. Just in time for the elections, Story Theater will present "The Kid Who Ran for President" and Dr. Sicoli will speak about Robbinsdale Area Schools' achievements and challenges, and answer any questions you might have about District 281. A Local Snapshot: Wildlife Photography – October 17Interested in learning tips on taking great wildlife photographs? Dan John-son, a local photographer, will share insights into the world of digital pho-tography and show you how you can take great shots of your natural sur-roundings. Dan and his family live on the south end of Bassett Creek Park in the city of Crystal. He's a retired social worker and big believer in exploring the beauty close to home. Recently two of his pictures were included in Twin City Public Television's book "Capture Minnesota.” Register by October 12.

Minnesota Streetcar History with Michael Buck – November 14Join streetcar historian Michael Buck as he tells the story of The Como – Lake Harriet and Excelsior Streetcar lines. Michael is a 31 year volunteer at the historical streetcar exhibit and a five year volunteer on the steamboat Minnehaha. Remembering the street-cars and how they were integral in the culture of Minneapolis and St. Paul will make that era come to life again. Michael will show a DVD depicting the streetcars and bring memorabilia he has collected over these many years. Register by November 9.

Our trips allow you to eat at wonderful restaurants and experience a host of remarkable recreational activities. Nifty Fifty Day at St. Croix Casino – November 14

If you’re 50 or older and have

a TLC card you can be one of the “Nifty-Fifty” with the extra perks for the day! In ad-dition to re-ceiving $5 on

your player’s card for riding the bus, each “nifty fifty” will receive an extra $5 on their player’s card to spend on the machines. You may also purchase a juicy hot dog at the sandwich stand for 50 cents and are eligible for the $50 drawing at noon. If you do not have a TLC card and would like one, tell us when you register; the card is the only mechanism you have to re-deem the “comp” money. Victorian Christmas and Lowell Inn – December 5Journey to historic Stillwater, a distinc-tive community that offers a blend of history, scenery, shopping and culture. We begin this holiday outing at the Lowell Inn. Built in 1927, this lush and elegant hotel has stood the test of time. Have lunch in one of the fine din-ing rooms at the inn, sometimes called the “Mt. Vernon of the Midwest.” Lunch will include Chicken ala King, mashed potatoes, vegetable of the day, bever-age and a small dessert. After lunch we will experience Stillwater’s Victorian Christmas as we tour two homes deco-rated for the holiday season. Following our tour, take a stroll along Stillwater’s quaint downtown streets. On the way home, we will head to St. Paul’s Rice Park to see the Christmas lights display. In July, the New Hope City Council approved the purchase and installation of new play equipment in Civic Center Park. The new playground will include two play areas – a small playground container with six traditional swings (including chair and baby swings), and a larger container with several eye-catching, innovative, state-of-the-art play structures. The equipment will include: a Playshaper structure tailored to young children ages 2 to 5; a large Evos structure with a variety of challenging and stimulating activities for older kids ages 5 to 12; an undulat-ing Mobius Climber; and two different types of spinner stations.Construction will begin on the recently approved playground improvements in late August and should be completed this fall. Funding for the project will come from the Park Infrastructure Fund.

Outdoor Facilities RentalThe New Hope Parks and Recreation Department has many quality outdoor picnic and athletic facilities available for rent. Whether you are looking for a park to hold a family reunion or want to have an employee outing, we have picnic areas which would be perfect for your event. If you need space for a sporting event, we can ac-commodate such activities as baseball, softball, soccer, football and hockey.

Golf Course Clubhouse and Ice Arena Community RoomThe clubhouse and community room are available for family gatherings, business meetings, baby and bridal showers, birthday and anniversary parties, and more. Both locations have kitchen facilities. Clubhouse rentals are available from November through mid-March. Community room rentals are available on a limited basis year round.
