SKATING CLUBThe Didsbury Figure Skating Club offers skating programs to children of all ages. Programs include Canskate (learn to skate), Pre Power and Power Skating to build hockey skating skills, and STARSkate for figure skaters. PrePower - This program is designed for the young skater who is functional on the ice but not quite ready for CanPower. The main emphasis is on basic skating skills and introduces skating with a hockey stick. This program is the stepping stone to organized hockey and CanPower Skate for young skaters. Monday and Wednesdays from 4:00-4:45 pm.

CanPowerSkating - An action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. S k i l l s , t e c h n i q u e s a n d conditioning drills are taught in a p r o g r e s s i v e f o r m a t t h a t emphasizes how the skills apply to skaters and game situations. Mondays from 4:30- 5:15 pm.

RMAAR o c k y M o u n t a i n A t h l e t i c Association (RMAA) will be holding its conditioning camp for Peewee to Midget level hockey for the towns of Didsbury, Carstairs and Crossfield on September 15-20. Tryouts for the 2012/2013 season will begin on September 22 through October 5 at the Carstairs Arena.

This program is geared for girls ages 8-12 years old. Come out for a fun-filled night of girl fun, including a Zumba dance session! This program will be happening on December 13 from 6:00-9:00 pm. $15/person. Call 403.335.8719 to register.

This is a community based hockey league designed for children ages 4-18 years old to learn and enjoy the sport of hockey in a fun, family focused program. The season runs October-March on Saturdays from 8:30 am - 2:15 pm. Fall registration will be held on September 20 at the Didsbury Showcase event. Spaces are limited! DOSCA The Didsbury Out of School Care Association (DOSCA) offers before and after school care for children 5-12 years. This licensed program offers a range of age-appropriate activities for attendees. This program allows children to have fun and meet friends in a safe environment. ARMY CADETSRoyal Canadian Army Cadets is a national youth organization for ages 12-18 years, who are interested in participating in a variety of challenging and rewarding adventure and outdoor activities. Although Cadets are not part of the Canadian Forces, they learn about the air, land and sea elements of the Canadian Forces, as well as many other skills that may be used throughout their entire lives. Training is done weekly in a challenging yet disciplined environment. We encourage males and females aged 12-18 years in Mountain View County to join. UPCOMING EVENTS

MOUNTAIN VIEW ARTS FESTIVAL- The Didsbury Museum is one of the venues for this festival being held on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16. We will be hosting a Youth & Student Art Show, “Art Through Time”. Come to the Museum to learn about our heritage, and view artwork through the years. Listen to music and enjoy delicious homemade treats in our Coffee Room. Participate in demonstrations using the old 1926 Maytag Wringer washing machine, churn butter and weave on our 1939 wooden loom. Make unique art prints and characters using egg cartoons, fruits, vegetables, clothes pins, etc. Chat with hosts in each of our rooms and share memories and learn about the determination of our pioneers and the development of Didsbury.Talk with our Hobby Train Guys and see the unique scenery and buildings they have made for the model train display. It is well worth the time to just come relax, explore and enjoy the Museum.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATION - will be held the 4th Wednesday of each month starting September 26, 2012 from 1:00-3:30 pm. On September 26 we will celebrate the history of the Hiebert Family. Cornelius Hiebert was the first MLA for Rosebud Constituency when Alberta became a province in 1905. His great niece Agnes Hiebert, Wiebe, Mackenzie, has moved back to our area as well as her daughter and son. It will be wonderful to meet Agnes and her family and share memories about the journey of this family over the past 100 years.

Coffee and Conversation will be held October 24 at the Museum from 1:00-3:30 pm. Our guests will be members of the Gole Family and they will share their family history and the importance and development of the Feed Mill in Didsbury. Presenters are not yet confirmed for November 28, 2012

HARVEST COUNTRY DRIVE SHOWCASE WEEKEND- (www.CountryDrive.ca) will take place at the Didsbury Museum on Saturday and Sunday September 29 and 30. People from the urban centers are encouraged to come and see the uniqueness and treasures found in rural communities. At the Didsbury Museum we will focus on agricultural tools and implements both past and present.

Our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING will be held on Wednesday, October 24 at 7:00 pm at the Museum. We are always seeking new ideas and input from the community. If you are interested in becoming a Museum Board Member or would like to know more about our expectations, please give us a call at 403.335.9295. People are our greatest treasure!!

DIDSBURY CEMETERYLocated within the Town limits at 1101 - 18 Street and is open daily from 7:00 am - sunset. There are 3,382 plots. The oldest headstone is for Elias Shantz and dates back to 1899.

Residents of the Town and the rural community surrounding Didsbury are eligible to be a member of the Didsbury Cemetery Committee. Chinook Arch Victim’s Services Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, information and referrals to victims of crime and tragedy. Chinook Arch Victim’s Services Society is recruiting volunteer Advocates to work with victims of crime and tragedy. Advocates respond to referrals from the Olds, Didsbury and Sundre RCMP. Extensive training opportunities are provided at no cost to the volunteer.

Volunteers are being recruited for the position of Victim’s Advocate as well as Board Members. The Board of Directors are responsible for governing the society, fundraising and assisting with publicity and promotions. Some training opportunities are also available to Board Members.

JUMPSTARTCanadian Tire Jumpstart is a charitable program that helps kids in financial need participate in organized sports and recreation such as soccer, dance, hockey and swimming. Participation in sports and recreation increases a child’s chance of success through a healthier lifestyle, increased self confidence, the opportunity to learn leadership skills and more positive relationships and support networks.

Funding is available to children between the ages of 4 and 18. Participation must be in an approved organized sport or recreational activity of the child’s choice, and funding may be applied to cover the costs of registration, equipment or transportation. DIDSBURY LIBRARYThe Friends of the Didsbury Library Society will be holding a book sale on Friday, September 14 from 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm and Saturday, September 15 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. The sale is in the basement of the Didsbury Lawn Bowling Club building at 1619-22 Avenue, Didsbury. Purchase as many books as you like and make a donation to the Friends of the Didsbury Library in payment. All proceeds from the sale are used to purchase books and equipment for the use of Library Patrons and Staff.

AQUATIC INFORMATION

Public Swim: All ages welcome, those children 7 yrs of age and under must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 yrs of age or older. Hot Tub and Steam Room available.

Family Swim: All ages welcome, these swims are designated to families. All minor children must be accompanied in the water by an adult (+18), all adults must be accompanied by a child. Hot Tub and Steam Room available (age requirements).

Early Bird and Lap swim: This swim is designated for lane swimming, hot tub and steam room only. Anyone participating must swim lengths.

Open Swim: Available for anyone! Half of the pool will be sectioned off for the lane swimmers with the rest of the pool open for all to enjoy. The slide will be turned off during this swim.

Senior Swim: This swim is designated for those seniors interested in a relaxing, leisurely, self-directed workout. Hot Tub and Steam Room available.

Toonie Parent and Tot: Parents and Tots are welcome to use the Tot Pool and Hot Tub for only a Toonie each.

Mommy Break Time: Parents get a break, while children 3-7 years play in the water with a lifeguard/instructor. Coffee, tea and cookies provided.

Adult Swim: This time is designated for those 18+ to swim laps, play in the water, enjoy the Steam Room or soak in the Hot Tub.

NEW PROGRAMS THIS FALL!!

Craft & Splash: Preschoolers are sure to enjoy this new program. We will be making a fun craft followed by a half hour in the pool with one of our lifeguards!

Youth Water Sports: Join your friends in fun competition while learning the basics in water polo, underwater hockey and volleyball!

Adult Water Sports: Meet fellow aquatic enthusiasts and try out a new sport. Learning the basics of water polo, water volleyball and underwater hockey are just a start during this fun-filled hour. Every evening will end with a scrimmage.
