INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS

The FAKRO Company concentrates its efforts around inno-

vations. A direct effect of this work is entirely new products

such as high pivot windows or Duet high pivot windows.

Another innovative solution is a topSafe structure reinforce-

ment system recently introduced to the majority of win-

dows which makes our products more burglary resistant.

Innovative Products In the proSky high pivot window, the sash is opened in a pivot way but the

axis of rotation is situated above the window mid-height. Thanks to a unique

hardware structure, it combines the advantages of centre pivot and top hung

and pivot roof windows. The lower part of the sash fulfils the function of a

top hung window, the upper being an additional source of light. The hinges

have been moved upwards by 15 -20cm (depending on the window height).

By raising the axis of rotation, even a tall person can now freely approach the

window edge. The sash, when rotated through 0° to 45°, is supported by an

innovatory auxiliary mechanism, which makes it possible to leave the sash

open anywhere within this range. For washing, the sash can be locked by a

bolt when rotated through 160°, similar to any other centre pivot window.

The high pivot windows come also with lower sashes. The lower sash is non-

opening and fitted with a glazing unit with safety laminated glass which

allows children a safe look outside. It offers unobstructed views even when in

a sitting position. Installation of this window is performed in the standard way,

identical to any other FAKRO roof window. In this solution, larger glazed area

has been achieved by increasing the length of the window and not width.

The FDY-V window size 78x206cm provides larger glazed area in comparison

with 134x118cm. It is also necessary to underline that the higher from the

floor level the widow is installed, the better the room illumination which can

be achieved. So far, designing the correct room lighting was possible only by

using a vertical combination of two roof windows. The roof window created by

FAKRO, offering the height of more than 160cm, makes it possible to achieve

the correct room illumination by installing a single Duet high pivot window.

The window is available in heights of up to 206cm. Windows belonging to the

proSky group are the only such product on the market which, after fitted in

the roofs with pitches between 39 and 43 degrees, satisfy the requirements of

DIN 5034-1*, according to which the lower window edge has to be situated

95cm above the floor level and the top minimum 220cm. Handle in the

bottom section allows comfortable operating of the correctly installed FAKRO

roof windows.

The high pivot windows are adapted to FAKRO product system. It means that

they can be installed with FAKRO flashings and equipped with accessories

from FAKRO range.

Roof windows, apart from their basic functions such as providing light and

ventilation, have also to ensure usage comfort and protect against easy access

to the room.

To date, it was difficult to formally evaluate safety of products. Nowadays, it is

very straightforward as on 1 February 2007, there has been implemented the

harmonised standard EN 14351-1 for windows and doors in the whole of Eu-

rope. After a 3-year transitional period, the standard has been in force since 1

February 2010 and allows a direct comparison between parameters declared

by individual manufacturers. It comprises, amongst others, the EN 13049

standard which refers to roof windows and makes it possible to precisely de-

termine the level of safety they provide. Testing is performed using a soft body

with the weight of 50kg impacting from various heights on the weakest point

of the window. The first safety class corresponds to the drop height of 20cm,

second 30cm, third 45cm, fourth 70cm and fifth 95cm.

Toughened glass and structure re-inforcement, make FAKRO windows achieve

at least III class safety for the whole window including glazing as per EN 13049.

FAKRO were first to introduce to the market a full range of windows achieving

at least III class safety, setting a new standard in the roof window sector.

FAKRO roof windows are safe for people working on the roof and living in loft

conversions. FAKRO recommend the use of roof windows with at least III class

safety in the roofs with pitches below 30°. A chimney-sweep, roofer, aerial fitter

or person removing snow from the roof will not fall down through a roof win-

dow in case of accidental stepping on its sash. Fitting windows with increased

burglary-resistance is of particular importance in low pitched roofs and multi-

apartment buildings.

Such buildings often share the same staircase with entrance leading to the

roof. It provides easy access to the roof for unauthorised individuals which

brings a serious threat of break-in attempts. To minimise this risk, FAKRO have

constructed and included in their standard range a window with increased

burglary resistance FTP-V P2 Secure, which protects against different types of

break-ins, such as: kicking or even jumping on the window, thanks to hardware

in the topSafe system. Hinges installed in a way preventing their breaking off

and forcing the sash inside, levering, because of a metal slat making break-in

attempts with the use of tools more difficult and handle with a lock protecting

against sash opening, easy removal of glazing unit, thanks to a special system

protecting against unscrewing and forcing glazing out, easy glazing shattering

thanks to laminated and anti-burglary glazing class P2A.

Installation BracketsFAKRO roof windows are equipped with universal brackets, which allow

installation either on trimmers or on rafters. Installation of the window at

a chosen depth means that the milled groove marked with N, V, J letters

is level with the top surface of the battens. The denotation of the depth

of installation N, V, J corresponds to the last letter of denotation on the

package of the flashing e.g.

— EZV – flashing (E) type (Z) for tiled coverings with profile depth up to

45mm is assigned to the window installed on the depth V

— EHN – flashing (E) type (N) for tiled coverings with profile depth of

over 45mm is assigned to the window installed on the depth N.

Installation on TrimmersThe roof window is installed on trimmers when the rafter spacing is

much bigger than the window width. When installing on trimmers

we can move the window horizontally to better adjust the place of

installation in relation to the roof material profile.

Installation on RaftersWe install windows on rafters when the window width matches the spacing

between rafters, it ensures stability of the construction and the durability

of the connection. Installation on rafters is recommended especially when

we replace old windows (in already existing roofs) with new ones or when

we install big windows. When the window’s width is bigger than the spac-

ing between rafters we use trimmers in roof construction. Horizontal trim-

mer beams should be situated around 30-50 cm below the bottom and top

edge of the window. It will allow proper lining construction of the window

(bottom lining should be vertical to the floor and the head lining should be

horizontal to the floor).

Windows FTT U6 Thermo FTT U8 Thermo

The new highly energy-efficient roof windows FTT U6 Thermo and FTT U8

Thermo are characterised by specialist and innovative structure, ensuring high

energy savings and comfort of use. The windows have been designed with re-

gard to stringent requirements of energy-efficient buildings.

The innovative structure of the FTT Thermo window exploits glazing units

which are set in a specially designed sash frame. It offers wider wooden pro-

files in comparison with standard windows. Such structure minimises thermal

bridging and provides improved window insulation.

The FTT window is equipped with double-chamber, highly energy-efficient

glazing unit U6. The glazing unit consists of three panes. The external and cen-

tral panes are toughened, the internal being laminated (safety glass) class P2A.

The unit exploits two low-emission coatings and warm TGI spacers. The inter-

pane voids are filled with inert gas – argon. Such a glazing unit is characterised

by superior thermal parameters Ug=0.5 W/m²K.

Optionally, the window is also available with a triple-chamber glazing unit U8.

The glazing consists of four panes. The external and central panes are tough-

ened, the internal being laminated (safety glass) class P2A. The glazing unit

exploits three low-emission coatings and warm TGI spacers. Three inter-pane

voids are filled with inert gas – krypton. Such structure of the glazing unit ena-

bles achieving outstanding thermal parameters Ug=0.3 W/m²K.

FTT Thermo window has specific functional properties. It is a centre pivot win-

dow, in which the axis of rotation of the sash was raised by about 7 cm above

the geometric centre of the sash, so even even tall person can comfortably

stand at the open window. The sash stops in the open position in the range

from 0° to 45°, because it is assisted by an innovative supporting mechanism.

Large window sizes and raised axis of rotation secure lots of light in the attic

and unobstructed access to the opened window.

quadruple sealing system; all seals are made of the highest quality materials,

thanks to their high flexibility and elasticity they adhere better to the pane fur-

ther reducing heat loss;

changed way of closing the sash without a traditional conventional locking

mechanism. When the handle is turned, the sash is locked at both sides of the

frame;

effective protection against noise infiltration;

installed in roofs with pitches between 15° and 70°;

wide range of accessories;

10 year warranty period;

internal glass laminated according to Class 1B1, P2A.

A new and universal flashing EHT-AT Thermo with additional insulation is an

ideal solution which guarantees tight and „warm” connection of the window

with the roof covering. EHT-AT Thermo makes it possible to apply insulation

of the window above the level of battens. To the inside of the flashing there is

glued flexible insulating material which adheres tightly to window frame con-

stituting a thermo-insulated frame. Thermo-insulating material has excellent

insulting values (coefficient ). Below the level of the battens the window is in-

sulated by a wool insulating kit XDP. The introduced Thermo flashing enhances

U value of the window up to 15% depending on the window type, thus avoid-

ing thermal bridging and heat loss. The EHV-AT Thermo is a universal flash-

ing type and can be used with all types of roof coverings up to 90mm profile

depth and with all wooden as well as aluminium-clad plastic roof windows. It

is applied as standard to individual windows in the slope of the roof. The flash-

ing may also be used as module flashing for windows used in horizontal and

vertical combinations or block groups,Is available for installation of windows at

a depth V (0cm), on roofs with pitches between 15° and 90°.

Constituents of the FlashingThe EHV-AT Thermo is a universal flashing type. Can be used with all types of

roof coverings. The flashing is 22mm wider than standard and is made of four

basic elements (bottom element, two sides elements and top element), each

profiled with insulation material. In set, there are included proper width side

covering profiles. The lower element has a long, wide aluminium plastic apron

with an adhesive PVC fillet adhered to the underside. This allows the flashing

to be adhered to the roof covering for a perfect fit. The flashing is equipped

with side sealing channels to protect against wind blown dust, leaves, rain and

snow. In the set there is a weep flap to allow condensation to drain away from

the window,

The EFW Flat Roof System makes it possible to install windows on flat or very

low-pitched roofs. The system elevates the installation angle of the window by

15° in relation to the roof pitch. The system is mainly used in order to provide

some more natural light into production halls and warehouses while at the

same time maintaining good thermo-insulating properties. The system is also

used when adapting the attic with low pitch roof to living space. It is normally

used to install single windows in the roof. Windows can also be installed in

horizontal combinations with a minimum distance of 30cm between them. To

individual order the EFW sysem can be manufactured e.g. for three windows

installed side by side. This system is intended to be used with flat roof cover-

ings.

Constituents of the SystemThe EFW system is made up of two basic elements: a wooden housing with

insulation material bonded to it, and flashing to join the window to the

housing. Brackets for installing the window are included. After installing the

wooden housing, it should be properly sealed and fixed to the existing roof

covering.

Insulating Set XDP

XDP insulating set is designed to enable fast and tight air-permeable and

thermal insulation around the window to be installed. The set consists of air-

permeable membrane and thermo-insulating material made of natural wool

in shape of:

— wool cubes 150x50mm and 70x50mm,

— wool tress 50mm in diameter.

The thermo-insulating material is made of specially impergnated sheep wool.

Its proper density and high elasticity enables ideal adjustment of the material

to the space it fills. Universal way of insulating enables roof window insulation

irrespective of the roof opening size. Air-permeable collar is used to connect

window with roof membrane. Is made of high quality and high vapour perme-

ability mambrane which protects thermo-insulating material from moisture.

The sides of the collar are prepared in such a way, so that they can be placed

directly onto roof battens, irrespective of the spacing between them or their

thickness. Collars should be chosen according to window size.

Features of thermal-insulation made of natural sheep wool It has proper density and high elasticity which enables ideal adjustment of

the material;

mal bridging and ensures additional window insulation;
