Faithful & VictoriousPrayer Devotional - Day 5

Reminders of Faithfulness
Faithfulness is a characteristic of God often mentioned in the Bible.
His unchanging commitment to His children is demonstrated
throughout the Old and New Testaments and it always comes with
promises and encouragement.
We shall do well to take hark during this challenging time of the
pandemic. For this too will come to pass.
Let us read again Chapter 11 of Hebrews and learn "what the
ancients were commended for."And claim the promise:
"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he willnever leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not bediscouraged."(Deut. 31:8).
The Lord Jesus has overcome. Amen.

God's Faithfulness
When speaking of God’s faithfulness, I’m
reminded of Nehemiah 9:16-21, which says:
“...our fathers acted presumptuously and
stiffened their neck and did not obey Your
commandments. They refused to obey and were
not mindful of the wonders that You performed
among them, but they stiffened their neck...
2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we arefaithless, He remains faithful—for He cannot deny Himself.”
But God, in His faithfulness, orchestrated low
moments in my life to show me how far I had
fallen away; and in doing this, He woke me up to
see that I was taking the broad path to
destruction. If I had died in those years, I don’t
know where my eternity would have been. Yet,
God was faithful when I was not, and gave me
the opportunity to repent.
But You are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to angerand abounding in steadfast love, anddid not forsake them.
Even when they had made for themselves a
golden calf and said, ‘This is your god who
brought you up out of Egypt,’ and had committed
great blasphemies, You in Your great mercies did
not forsake them in the wilderness....You gave
Your good Spirit to instruct them and did not
withhold Your manna from their mouth and gave
them water for their thirst. Forty years You
sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked
nothing...”
This passage is so reassuring to me, as it gives a
glimpse into God’s heart: the recounting and
confession of Israel’s multitude of sins; but for
every transgression, God does not forsake them -
He shows mercy and patience instead. In
particular, I’ve experienced God’s faithfulness
through His continual discipline. There were
many years that I lived in rebellion to God, filled
with hatred and bitterness towards others, with
no fear of Him or His Word.
I encourage you to reflect on God’s faithfulness
described in Nehemiah 9, but also on His
faithfulness in your own life over the years, and to
praise Him for it.

Victory & Providence
“I have told you these things so that in Me you mayhave peace. In the world you will have trouble. Buttake heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
When Jesus’s public ministry drew to a close, He prepared the
disciples to face the future without Him. He explained to them
that the time had come for Him to return to His Father in
heaven, that He would be put to death by the Jews and that He
would rise again from the dead. He promised them that He
would send the Holy Spirit to be their Comforter and Teacher.
After Jesus has told them this in plain language, the disciples
said: “This makes us believe that You came from God.” John
16:30b. Then Jesus told them “In Me you have peace, in the
world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome
the world.” John 16:33.
The NIV Study Bible draws our attention to the contrast
between being “in Christ” and “in the world”. Those that have
accepted Jesus as their Saviour are in Christ. Those that have
not accepted Jesus as their Saviour are in the world. Jesus
promised that those in Him will have peace even while we are
living in this present world. In the world there is trouble by
nature and by man. There are diseases and pestilences. There
are local and regional conflicts and major wars that cause
human suffering. And for Christians, the unbelieving world will
disown us, reject us, ridicule us, oppress us, and even persecute
us.
But when we are in Christ, we have His real peace and
confidence. We know Whom we have believed and He is able to
keep that which we have committed to Him until the day of His
glorious return.
Lord Jesus, thankyou for dying onthe cross for oursins. Thank you
for the promise ofeternal life to allwho believe in
You. Thank youfor the peace thatwe have in You.Help us to standfirm on our faith
in You. Amen.
