Did you know... On Easter Sunday, a special liturgical hymn is sung after the second reading, and serves as a sort of introduction to the Gospel. It is called a “sequence,” and is one of three sequences that are sung at Sunday Masses (you will soon hear the Pentecost and Corpus Christi sequences). The Latin text of the Easter sequence comes from the 11
th century, and tells of Christ’s victory over sin and death, and of Mary’s wonder at
seeing the empty tomb. It ends with an exhortation: “Share the good news, sing joyful- ly: his death is victory!”
