MESSAGE FROM PASTOR BOB
Dear Friends in Faith,
Once, while I was a student at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, someone I passed on the sidewalk in Minneapolis handed me a tract and encouraged me to read it.
The tract said that scientists had noticed a substantial increase in the popula-tion of buzzards in the Holy Land. According to the tract, that could only mean one thing: that God was making final preparations for the Battle of Armaged-don, the end of the world prophesied in the book of Revelation in the New Testament (according to some interpretations.) The buzzards’ job would be to clean up the carrion left over from the battle!
Of all the things the Bible speaks about, the “end times” somehow bring out the most wildly diverse interpretations from among Christian people.
Some Christians would say that the “end times” are the most important thing the Bible talks about; and that it is vitally important that Christians know the signs of the approaching Second Coming of Christ and be watching for them. To hear some Christians talk you would think that watching for the signs of the end of time is the only thing that will save people from Hell!
Other Christians say that the whole subject of the “end times” isn’t worth spending a spare moment obsessing about; and, in fact, to spend time on worrying about the end of the world distracts us from what God really wants us to be doing.
SO – what does the Bible really say about the “end times”? You have an ex-cellent opportunity to take a four week course on the topic taught by a great teacher, Pastor Dick Inglet, who until recently served at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage. The course runs on four Saturday mornings from October 18th to November 8th.
The course in organized by our South Central Synod of Wisconsin, with the coordination of the ELCA’s Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. It is open to anyone from our synod, and to our ecumenical friends and neighbors. AND, THE COURSE IS BEING HELD RIGHT HERE AT FAITH!
The cost for the course is $100. That might seem steep, but this course is a first class Christian education opportunity! Partial scholarships are available if the cost is a factor.
I would encourage all of you to consider signing up at church this Sunday. I guarantee you’ll enjoy the course and learn a lot!
Peace, Pr. Bob Moberg

“Trunk and Treat”
The Evangelism Committee will hold another “Halloween Trunk and Treat” in October in the church parking lot from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. If anyone wants to come and help, please feel free to do so. In case of rain it will be held in the Fellowship Hall. We are again asking for contri-butions of candy to hand out. We would also like to take this oppor-tunity to thank everyone that do-nates candy, because it saves on our budget. Bring your children up to visit us. They like the candy and we like to see the costumes.

Sunday, November 2 is a very old and nearly univer-sal festival in the church. It is the most important of the
Lesser Festivals. The purpose of All Saints’ Day is to remember all those who through the ages have lived and died in the Christian faith. Besides re-membering the saints of all ages, All Saints’ Sunday is also an appropriate time to remember those who have died during the past year. It is an old custom of the church to remember them by name in the prayers on that Sunday. If you have relatives or friends who have died since November 3, 2013 that you would like to have included in the pray-ers on Sunday, November 2 please call the church office at 623-3610 before Thursday, October 30.
Women’s Night
Out
The Evangelism Committee is holding a
“Women’s Night Out” again on Octo-
ber 9th at the Cardinal Ale and Bowl.
Social Hour will be from 5:30 to 6:30
and dinner at 6:30. We love to have
young and elderly women of Faith and
their friends join us. This is definitely a
social event: no meeting, offering or
preaching. We would like a ballpark
figure of number attending so if you
know for sure please use the sign up
sheet in the narthex.

2014 Sixth Grade Confirmation Class Bible Presentation The red CARPET replacement funds appeal has begun. Most are-
as of the red carpet is to be re-placed due to wear, safety and appearance. The total project is estimated at $19,000. There is a sign-up poster and project infor-mation sheet on the Narthex table. We currently plan to schedule the installation after the funds have been sponsored and paid.
Update from the Finance Committee: We were blessed in August with $1500 from the Scrip program. The check is reflect-
ed in the August giving totals. This program helped us meet financial obligations without using the line of credit. Thank you,
Heavenly Father, for your blessings as we continue to meet our spending plan goals in 2014.
The "Fur, Fin & Feathers" fellowship event will be on Thursday, October 23 starting at 6:30 PM. This community event has a theme of hunting, fishing and the outdoors. This year we are having a fishing skit with starring roles acted by our Pastors and others. There will also be a question & answer ses-sion by a DNR Warden. There will be door prizes and a special quilt raffle. There is no admission charge, but we ask for a food pantry donations for the Fill-the-Boat campaign. A complete orange informational flier will be on the Narthex table and on the Church website. Please make plans to join us and this is a great opportunity to INVITE someone to your Church.
