Faith In action
MONTHLY NEWSLETTER | FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH | MAY 2018
Pastor’s Pen
have faith that when you are reading this article,
spring will have finally sprung. As I write it,
there is still a foot of snow on the ground. The
flowers, trees and grasses are ready to emerge with
lively color. Our experience convinces us that
spring will come, blossoms will bloom and the sun
will warm our faces. But you wouldn’t know it
looking out the window today. Faith is trusting in
that which we cannot see but are convinced is true.
Faith is the name of our church. When some
original members were asked why they named our
church, Faith, they said, “Because at that time faith
was all we had.” Hebrews 11:1 states, “Now faith is
the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of
things not seen.”
It is time to “put our faith into practice” once again.
At a special meeting of the congregation on March
18th we voted to appoint a call committee to assist
in the call of a full time Associate Pastor. This will
assure the continued quality and growth of our
ministries in light of Pastor Christine moving to part
time this summer. We also voted to increase the
2018 Annual Ministry Budget by $32,000.00. Two
leaps of (F)faith. We move forward with faith and
confidence; trusting that the Holy Spirit is leading
us. Our Stewardship Ministry Area with the Powered
by Faith leadership team will help us in meeting our
financial leap of faith. The Church Council has
appointed a Call Committee to help us in our
staffing leap of faith. The Call Committee includes:
Charley Strieff, Debbie Bussler, Jamie Bergstrom,
John Bruellman, Matt Woelfel, Teresa Shields,
Maddie Sweeney (youth rep), Quinn Wambeke
(youth rep), and Richard Scott (council rep). We
were pleased and inspired by having twenty adults
volunteer to be on the Call Committee, I wish we
could have them all on the committee, but the
church constitution limits the Call Committee to
nine members. The Church Council did it’s best to
appoint a cross section of the congregation. My
thanks to all that volunteered to serve Faith in this
way. Please keep the Call Committee in your
prayers. Watch for communications of the
committee’s process and progress.
In Faith with Gratitude,
Pastor Dale
Council News! Thank-you Church Council
At our May 20th Congregational Meeting we will
thank Kim Sop and Marit Rinke who are ending
their terms on the Church council. These folks
have served us well. Please extend a word of
thanks to them. Some of them extended their
terms beyond the basic three year commitment. At
that same meeting we will vote to welcome new
council members to take their places. Thank you
to all of those going off of the church council, to
those staying on and to the new members. Your
service to Faith is much appreciated.

Join us for our NEW Summer Pastor’s Book Study! Make your summer matter! ANNOUNCEMENTS
A short devotional service is planned for
Memorial Day morning, Monday May 28 at
Faith Rutz Lake Cemetery at 8:00 AM. A color
guard including Waconia VFW & American
Legion members will participate as we pay
tribute to those who gave their lives for our
country.
The May Mission Offering is for Camperships for our young
people heading out on trips, usually in the summer. Often
known as scholarships in the scholastic world, these funds
are used to offer MISSION SUPPORT for all who choose
trips as a summer faith formation option: Bible Camp,
Mission Trips, ELCA Youth Gathering.
Our goal is to keep the fund healthy and fluid in order to be
able to offer funding for any youth at any time that needs
financial assistance to participate. This summer we have
thirteen youth attending the ELCA Gathering, thirteen
attending the Milwaukee Mission Trip, thirty five attending
Bible Camp. The ultimate goal is to build the fund so that
Faith Lutheran can always support each of these youth with
20-25% of their trip costs. We’re not quite at that goal yet.
Hoping to gain more funds needed for the above mentioned
youth and build a cushion for the upcoming years.
This same fund is funded by the offering taken on
Confirmation Sunday as well as the September Mission of
the month. This year we have a need in MAY.
Any Questions Contact: Mary Toufar or Ally Klug
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE RECENT PLEDGE
TO THIS FUND: Thank you to Eric Wenger and Stan
Winnie for their recent pledge of $1000 per year for ten years
to bolster this particular fund. Eric and Stan are business
partners with ALLSTATE Watermark Insurance Agency.
Thanks for your support!

SHIPWRECKED VBX –
June 11-14 – Register
For a Vacation Bible
Experience -- Send your kids on an island adventure!
Why do we call it a VACATION BIBLE EXPERIENCE?
Because at Shipwrecked VBX kids discover how Jesus
rescues us through all of life’s storms. Shipwrecked is filled
with incredible Bible learning experiences that kids get to see,
hear, touch, and even taste! “Ship Rec” Games, “Tropical”
Treats, and “Castaway” sing and play are just some of the
fun things your kids will experience while at VBX this year.
All the activities are created to support the daily Bible truth:
Jesus rescues when you’re lonely, when you worry, when you
struggle when you’re wrong. They are introduced through
Bible Buddies like Moe the sloth, Hope the jaguar, Beacon
the toucan, and Guac the iguana.
Our day runs from 9:00 am – noon. Parents,
grandparents and friends are invited to join us at the
Sail Away Sendoff each day at 11:30 am.
NOW is the time to register. NOW is the time to
volunteer. Mark the date on your calendar and check
out the registration form (and VOLUNTEER) form on
the church website: www.waconiafaithlutheran.com.

Youth and Family
On Sunday April 29th, the students listed below
affirmed the faith into which they were
baptized. Our hope is that this milestone is one of
many on what will become a lifelong journey of
faith. We pray they will continue to: Live among
God’s faithful people; be nurtured in faith and
prayer; Learn to trust God and Proclaim Christ;
Care for others and the world that God made; and
Work for justice and peace.
This summer, Faith is sending students on two
important trips: the ELCA National Youth Gathering and a
YouthWorks mission trip to Milwaukee.
In June, 30,000 ELCA youth from all over the country will
gather in Houston, Texas. Faith will be sending 13 students
and 6 adults to the Gathering. Then, in July, Faith will be
sending 15 students to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to not only
learn about poverty in an urban area, but also help with
several service projects.
We are so happy to be sending students on both of these
trips, but now we are asking for your support!
A Wall of Giving has been set up in the Welcome Center of
the church. Our young people hope to reach out to
members of Faith willing to support them financially by
buying “shares of stock” in their faith formation. On the
“WALL” there are a number of envelopes, each indicating a
potential gift amount -- $10, $25, $50 and more. If a share of
stock is valued at $25, donors may choose how many shares
to purchase. Some envelopes are left blank for the donor to
define their own gift amount.
Please include your contact information as well. The young
people will send post cards from their destination – AND
will invite all donors to an appreciation coffee hour upon
their return.

Did you know that we have group called the
KITCHEN CREW? The kitchen crew comes in
every quarter and deep cleans both of our kitchens.
They usually come in during the morning hours and
make sure old food is thrown, the shelfs are wiped
down and everything is spick and span. Thank you
Kitchen Crew for volunteering your time to make the
kitchen useful and clean for others to use.
For the next fifteen months, there will be one benefit
about what volunteering can do for you.
Volunteering builds bonds between people and stronger relationships. Working side by side for a common goal, tends to build friendships and the willingness to volunteer with one another again.
