FAIRY TALES UNIT

• In your journal, write about a memory you have with fairy tales, Disney movies, anything involving childhood stories!

MINI LIT CIRCLES• This week we will be in mini literature circles – prep for Shakespeare!• Each group will have about 6 people in it• Here’s the plan for the week:
• Monday: Read and annotate a fairy tale, and pull out a symbol in the fairy tale and explain it with evidence (vocab term: “explicate.” Each member explicates a different symbol)
• Tuesday: Create a DIDLS and explain the tone of the fairy tale
• Thursday: Elements of a Fairy Tale. Fill out sheet and identify elements and how they move the story
• Friday: Create a “movie poster” and words to go along as a live trailer for your story and present it to class
***All work due on Friday!***
MINI LITERATURE CIRCLES
• Today we will get into fairy tale lit circles for the week
• There will be about 6/group
• Your choices are:• Rapunzel
• Hansel and Gretel
• Cinderella
• Little Briar Rose
• Snow White
READ!
• Read and annotate! Look for: • Figurative language• Imagery• Symbols• Interesting things that catch your eye!
SYMBOLS
SYMBOLS: ON YOUR OWN…• Identify a symbol from your story. Each group
member needs to choose a different symbol. On your own, underneath your do now, write a short explanation of:• What the symbol is
• What is symbolizes/means
• How it aides in the plot of the story
• This explanation should be about ½ to 1 page and should have at least 3 pieces of evidence in it. Embed your evidence!!
