The 2019 FUMC Blood Drive is Sunday, May 5 from 8:00am until 1:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. This year’s blood drive will be in memory of blood drive founder Hal Moore, who passed away late last year. Our goal is to collect 45 units of blood, enough to save the lives of over 135 people. It’s critical that we get all participants and donors to mark their calendars, and to make their commitments as soon as possible. The early bird gets the best timeslot, so we’re making it easy for you!
Schedule your appointment at http://bit.ly/FUMC2019, or
Go to https://www.redcrossblood.org/ and type Fairlington UMC in the “Find a Blood Drive” box, or Call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767)

We are the authors of our lives.
We write our own daring endings.
We craft love from heartbreak,
Compassion from shame,
Grace from disappointment,
Courage from failure.
Showing up is our power.
Story is our way home.
Truth is our song.
We are the brave and brokenhearted.
We are rising strong.
From Manifesto of the Brave and Brokenhearted Brene Brown, Rising Strong
Fairlington United Methodist Church welcomes all to a
nurturing faith community that serves God by serving others.
We’re Glad You’re Here! We invite all worshipers to sign the red Friendship Pad that is at the end of each pew and pass it down your row. Prayer requests may be listed on the yellow pew cards. Pass them to the inside aisle for collection during the first hymn.
Is This Your First Visit with Us? We have gifts for first-time worshipers on the Welcome Table in the Narthex (foyer). Ushers can provide large print hymnals and hearing devices. Ask them for a Kid’s Pack and Children’s Bulletin as well as directions to the Nursery, or to our Family Room in the balcony.
Coffee and Conversation All are welcome to the Fellowship Hall (directly below the Sanctuary) at 10:30am every Sunday between services, to get to know others in a casual setting.
Remember with Prayers Each week in worship and at our church staff meetings we lift up the prayer requests that are submitted. You may also contact the church office with your prayer requests.

Welcoming You to a Joyous Easter at Fairlington!
The cross you have received today is made from eco-friendly seeded paper. Soak the paper in water and plant it under a thin layer of soil in either a pot or a sunny spot in the garden. Water it daily, and within 1-4 weeks you will hopefully see some seedlings! They may be Five Spot, Candytuft, Baby Blue Eyes, Scarlet Flax, Siberian Wallflower, Zinnia, Sweet William Pinks, Corn Poppy, Snapdragon, Catchfly, English Daily Gloriosa Daisy or Black-Eyed Susan.

Walking the National Mall with Mikah We were privileged to have Mikah Meyer as our guest preacher and soloist on our Reconciling Sunday in February. On Monday, April 29, he is completing, three years to the minute, his journey to visit all 411 National Park Service sites. He is inviting everyone to join him at 10:30am at the Washington Monument. We will then walk together to the Lincoln Memorial, beginning at 11am. If you would like to meet at the church and go down to the Mall, email [email protected] .
New Adult Bible Study on 2 Corinthians by N.T. Wright Sunday Evenings beginning April 28
(7-8:30pm).
All are welcome to join us for this short term study. Facilitated by Glenn McLoughlin.
What is 2 Corinthians all about? Paul's second letter to the Corinthians explores the meaning of the cross in terms of personal suffering--his own, and that of all the Messiah's people. If in Galatians he is angry, if in Philippians he is joyful, in this letter his deep sorrow and the raw wounds of his own recent suffering are very apparent. Yet Paul is determined to view all of his suffering and all of the troubles of the world through the lens of the gospel. These studies by Tom Wright on this powerful epistle point us toward the strange comfort to be found in the suffering, death and resurrection-life of Jesus, the Lord of the world. Questions or to RSVP contact Christian White [email protected].
What’s Coming Next: After the General Conference
Are you wanting to know more about what is being done by leaders in the United Methodist church following the vote at the General Conference? Join us in the Fellowship Hall Next Sunday April 28th after the 11am service for an update and Q & A with Rev. Dr. David McAllister-Wilson, president of Wesley Theological Seminary. We will have a light lunch following the service and the presentation will start at 1pm. This is a Church Council sponsored event.
All Youth Are Invited Our Next Fairlington Youth Dinner and Program Night on April 28th
at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. We will eat together, play together, and talk about God. If you have never been and want to know more,
contact Rev. Christian White at [email protected].

Your Easter Offering Today will support the missions of our church, including our missionary in Cambodia, Clara Biswas, as well as Just Neighbors, Rising Hope, FUMC Rental Deposit Assistance and Caring for God’s Creation ministries. Please mark “Lent” on your check or envelope. You may also make your Lenten donation online at bit.ly/Donate2FUMC, or text a donation to (703) 454-8702. Thank you for your generosity!
Cooking Service Opportunity Interested in a service opportunity for an individual, your family or small group? How about cooking dinner for the Carpenter’s Shelter residents? On the fourth Saturday of every month dif-ferent cooks from FUMC prepare dinner for the residents at the Carpenter’s Shelter. We are currently seeking cooks for the months of June, July, No-vember and December. If you are interested in cooking on one of these months or would like more information, please contact Barbara Gomez, [email protected] or (703) 671-7410. You don’t have to be a gourmet chef to provide a much needed healthy meal for homeless children and adults at the shelter.
Thanks to Our Congregation’s Generosity
We have raised a total of $715,000 in pledges for 2019. Thank you to the 164 households committed to supporting FUMC in 2019. Your gener-osity is important to the life our church. If your gift amount has changed, you would like to be involved, or you would like to learn more, please con-tact the office, or Jenn Ayers at [email protected]. Thank you from the Stewardship Committee. 96 children served by the ALIVE! Child Development Center, Rising Hope UMC and New Hope Housing are receiving Easter Fun Boxes because of Fairlington members who contributed snack items and financial support. Thank you from the FUMWomen and the Band of Mothers for packing up the kits. They helped make Easter special for children.
Rent Security Deposit Assistance Keep the Fund Growing! Fairlington offers a unique opportunity to help individuals and families who, having located safe and affordable housing to move into, can’t move in be-cause they are unable to pay the full market value rental security deposit. Our Rental Security Deposit Assistance Program helped 91 households last year, contributing $24,798. We need your help to continue making a difference in our community. You can contribute one time to the Rental Se-curity Deposit Assistance Program by writing a check to FUMC, including “RSDAP” in the memo line. Also, please consider joining the Rental Deposit Assistance Club and giving twice a year. Join the Club by contacting Car-olyn DeVilbiss at [email protected]. If you are already part of the Club, we gratefully anticipate your first payment of the year by May 5th.
