It was only the second time all season that a team was able to outscore the defending Big 12 regular season champions. The Stags also held Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, Bria Holmes, to a season-low 15 points, her lowest perfor- mance since the season finale against LSU. Fairfield also forced Holmes to six turnovers, the second most in her ca- reer. Kristin Schatzlein continued her breakout season by netting a team-high 17 points including 4-8 from behind the arc. Schatzlein has now scored in double figures in six straight games, which is the longest streak of her career. The Stags are off their first 1-5 start since 2002. FAIRFIELD VS. SIENA This will be the 65th meeting between the two MAAC schools, with the Stags holding a 36-28 advantage. Fairfield has won seven of the last eight meetings in the series, with their only loss coming in the 2013 MAAC Quar- terfinals. The Stags are 13-6 against the Saints under Joe Frager including 5-2 on the road. All-time, the Stags are 12- 14 against Siena away from home.

The 2014-15 campaign marks the eighth season that Joe Frager has been at the helm of the Fairfield University women’s basket-ball program. Under his tutelage the Stags

have averaged 20 wins per season (141 overall), earned 17 All-MAAC andfiveAll-MetTeamrecognitions,advancedtotheMAACChampi-onship Final in two of the last four seasons, appeared in the WNIT in 2012, and advanced to the semifinals of the Women’s BasketballInvitational. All told, Frager has been a head coach at the collegiate level for 17 years, with nine seasons at Southern Connecticut State University. His resume includes the 2007 NCAA Division II National Championships and six Coach of the Year awards. Outside of being honored for an individual season’s accomplishments, Frager has also been honored for the breadth of his achievements. In 2008 he was inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and in October 2009 was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Frager’sfirstsevenseasonsat thehelmhave rekindled thespiritand tradition of Fairfield University women’s basketball. The Stagshave won 63 percent of their games during that time, with four 20-win seasons in the books. Along the way, the Stags have appeared in threeMAACChampionshipsemifinalgames, twoMAACChampi-onshipfinals,aberthintheWNIT,andfinishedinthetop-thirdoftheconference standings each season. The 2011-12 campaign was one of the best in program history. The Stagswent24-9overalland16-2intheMAACtosecureitsfirstberthin theWNIT inmore thanadecade. Fairfieldhosted theirfirst-everWNIT game at Alumni Hall where they were tipped by the Dragons, 57-41,toendtheseason.TheStagsfinishedtheyearrankedfifthnation-ally in scoring defense, allowing 52.0 points per game, and 18th in the nation in turnovers per game, committing just 13.9 per contest. In addition, three Stags recorded their 1,000th career points during the campaign. Individual accomplishments have also followed Fairfield sinceFrager’s arrival. A Stag has earned First-Team All-MAAC honors in eachofFrager’sseasonswiththeprogramandFairfieldhasreceiveda total of 17 All-MAAC selections in that time. The Stags have also re-ceived one MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, one MAAC Sixth Player of the Year, and 19 All-MAAC Academic Team selections. Additionally, in all seven seasons with Frager at the helm, a player has been hon-ored by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association with All-Met accolades. Frager’sfirstseasonatthehelmoftheStags,the2007-08cam-paign, can only be considered a rousing success. Fairfield won 22games, includingfive straight to start the season,andknockedoffACC member Boston College and earned strong consideration for an at-large berth to the WNIT. The win total was the fourth-most victo-ries in a single-season in the program’s history. It also marked the seventh-time in program history that the Stags had won 20 or more games, and the first time since the 2000-01 squad earned an at-largeberthtotheNCAATournament.ThesquadfulfilledFrager’sgoalofplayingwelldown thestretch,winning12of thefinal16games,includingfiveofsixtofinishtheregularseason.

◊ Felicia DaCruz had a career performance against the Saints last season. DaCruz averaged 14.5 points per game and seven assists per contest. In the last meeting, DaCruz scored all of the team’s 10 points in overtime including the game-winning free throw with 0.8 seconds remaining.KristinSchatzleinhashiteightthree-pointersinthefivecareergamesagainsttheSaints.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS◊ Siena is coming into the game off to their best start in 21 years after winning three of their firstfourgames.TheSaints’onlylosscameagainstAkronintheChampionshipGameoftheUniversity of Denver Thanksgiving Classic. The Zips were ranked 24th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll.◊ TheSaintsareledbytheirrookieMargotHetzkewhohaswonthefirstthreeMAACRookieofthe Week awards. The freshman is nearly averaging a double-double with 18.5 points per game and 9.3 boards per game. Defensively, Tehresa Coles is the play maker for the squad averaging 3.75 steals per contest. The senior also is averaging 16.3 points per outing.◊ Siena makes their name on the defensive side, allowing 64.8 points per game, which is third best in the league. Their 11 steals per game is ranked 48th in the country, while Coles ranks 10th in the nation in that category.

ALL ABOUT SHOTS◊ Kristin Schatzleinhasreacheddoublefiguresineverygamethroughthefirstsixgames,thesecond straight season a Stag has accomplished this feat. Katie Cizynski was the one who accomplished that last year.◊ Schatzleinhasscored99duringherfirstsixgamesoftheseason,thehighestnumbersinceJanelleMcManushad101inthe2002-03season.McManuswouldfinishwithfewerthan500points that season.◊ Schatzlein has gone 5-5 from the line this year and has not missed a free throw shot since January 26 at Quinnipiac. Schatzlein has hit 15 straight free throws dating back to last season.

A FAST PACE◊ With203-pointersinthefirstsixgames,KristinSchatzleinisonpacetohit113longrangeshots this season, which would be a record.◊ Schatzlein hit 64 long-range shots last season. She would need to average 0.5 per contest to equal that mark.◊ The junior is averaging 3.3 3-pointers per contest.

CAN’T BEAT SMITTY◊ Casey Smithisplayingherfirstseasoninnearlythreeyears.Smithwasineligibletoplaylast year due to NCAA transfer rules. In her only season at Saint Joseph’s, Smith was injured and did not see playing time.◊ Throughherfirstfivecollegiategames,Smithhasscored58pointswhichisthemostforaStagplayingtheirfirstseasonsinceDesiree Pina had 64 in 2008.

FELICIA IS CRUZIN’◊ Despite nursing an injury that she suffered in the preseason, Felicia DaCruz is picking up right where she let off last season.◊ DaCruzcurrentlyhas15assistswithonly5 turnovers (the12assists inherfirst threegames is more than she had in 28 games in her freshman season).◊ DaCruz currently has 304 career assists and is 8 away from moving to the 14th spot in program history (Jennifer Natale ‘312)◊ Sheiscomingoffherfirstgamewithanegativeassist-turnoverratiosinceJanuary30thand only the fourth in her last two years.

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT◊ Through four games, the Stags scored 257 points, 14 more than they had at that time last season.◊ ThisisthemostthatFairfieldhasscoredthroughthefirstfourgamesoftheseasonsince2004 when they scored 259 in the opening four contests.◊ The 81 points that they scored against Butler, was the most at home since they tallied 81 against Niagara last season.

BALANCING ACT◊ Ten players scored for the Stags in their road loss to Hofstra, including two players record-ingtheirfirstcollegiatepoints.◊ Although it was only a 13 point loss, 12 players checked in for the Stags and three players reacheddoublefigures.◊ Macey Hollenshead and Kristen McLaughlin were the players who scored in a game for thefirsttimeintheircareers.
