2021 ACADEMY AUDITIONS
Approximately 30 students between the ages of 13 and 18 make their way to the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park each Saturday for a ten-hour day of music education. The concept of the program has always been focused on providing a comprehensive curriculum that best serves students preparing for conservatory training. The program includes private lessons with their current MIC teacher (offsite during the week), chamber string orchestra, chamber music, piano history, skills and improvisation for piano students, multiple levels of music theory, and significant performance opportunities for developing musicians. In addition, students participate in weekly enrichment classes that include master classes, lectures, and workshops featuring renowned guest artists and pedagogues.
We hope you will consider recommending the most advanced students in your studio for the Academy. Auditions for the class of 2020-2021 will be held on April 12, 2021 and June 7, 2021. Students who are not currently enrolled in MIC Chamber Music may also audition on August 9.
In order to schedule a live audition, students are required to submit a pre-screen video one month before the live audition date.
Please recommend students who consistently excel at their instrument, study at an advanced level, and are willing to dedicate ten hours each Saturday -- in addition to evening hours for seven concerts each year. Merit scholarships are available to every student in the Academy.
Call Sue Polutnik 847-448-8311 to learn more about the prescreen and audition process, or visit https://www.musicinst.org/auditions-admission

Understanding MIC Email
MIC assigns each faculty and staff member an MIC email address to ensure a professional and uniform look for all part time and full time MIC employees. Your MIC email address is what faculty and staff will use to contact you through the MIC active directory. You may also share your MIC email with students and parents.
Example of standard MIC email address: [email protected] (first initial and last [email protected])
Full time staff members receive email at their MIC account via their Microsoft Outlook 365 in-box on a dedicated desktop or laptop.
Faculty members and part-time staff members receive MIC email three ways:
1. Email Forwarding: MIC automatically forwards your MIC email to the personal email address you submitted upon hiring. Please notify me if your email address changes so there is no interruption to your delivery service. Your MIC will email will show up in your in-box like your other email. IF THIS IS NOT HAPPENING, PLEASE CONTACT ME.
Important Note: Please understand that when you reply to mail that has been auto forwarded to your personal account, the email REPLY you send is from your personal email address, not the MIC address.
If you prefer that your reply email is from the MIC address (program directors dealing with the public, faculty members engaged in external collaborations, etc.), you will need to elect one of these other options.
2. Internet: You can also retrieve MIC email via REMOTE ACCESS from the internet on any computer by using the Outlook 365 Web Application. When you reply to email that you retrieved via the internet, the reply email is from your MIC address. This is obviously more professional, especially when dealing with partners in the arts community. Many faculty members don’t mind that their reply email is from their personal address, however, so the choice is yours.
Note: Even when your email is auto-forwarded to your personal address, you may also choose to retrieve email via OWA internet access. Some faculty members opt to check their MIC email both ways.
Use https://login.microsoftonline.com in your browser to access email via the internet.
This on-line method requires that you know your username and password.
Username: spolutnik (lower case first initial last name—all one word)
Password: All faculty passwords are set to mic12345!
3. Sync email to your smart phone: Android or iPhone/iPad - You can opt to retrieve email via your smart phone. Contact me if you would like to schedule a phone appt. with our IT team to help you with this set up.
If you suspect your email is not being forwarded (from time to time AOL and Yahoo users experience problems due to aggressive spam filtering software), please check your email in the Office 365 portal on line.

GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST
Upon hiring, your name and email address are added to the MIC Global Address List (GAL - active directory of all MIC employees) which you can access on any computer.
If you would like a tutorial on accessing the directory, please ask the administrative assistant at your campus to show you how to log in to OWA https://login.microsoftonline.com
Your name has also been added to the MIC email distribution groups that you need to be included in: All Faculty or All Campus Staff, and any other groups you may need to be included in such as your campus (Lake Forest, Evanston, Winnetka, Chicago) or your area of instruction (Cello, Suzuki Piano, Jazz, etc.)
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require assistance. Thank you.
MIC PHONE INSTRUCTIONS – If you require assistance in using any MIC campus phone, please see the Administrative Assistant at your campus.
There is a list of direct phone numbers and extensions in each faculty lounge.
Staff: If you need to change your password or phone greeting, please contact Rose Vakili at 847-905-1500, ext. 180 or [email protected]
