1. Publications:

• Original Basic Research: highly challenging currently because of the lack of funding, infrastructure or culture.

• Can be improved in the future if we engage with the NABRC or develop similar wet laboratory facilities.

• Can be done in collaboration with Ross or outside labs. Improving our networking reach will help.



1. Publications:

• Original Clinical Research: more feasible currently given our situation: can involve retrospective studies using available clinical data at local hospitals or prospective epidemiological studies.

Needs initiation of cooperation with local hospitals and clinics. Will improve our future standing with the community and the government.

• Review articles editorials etc: these usually are invited assignments but today many journals will consider author solicited papers.

• Will require development of expertise in a specific area of your field, but otherwise highly feasible in our available infrastructure.

• The scholarship field can be also related to medical education rather than an actual medical field. Giving us a unique niche.

• Review articles editorials etc:

• A good opportunity for junior faculty to obtain publishable material is to get involved in research mentoring. Two settings will be available from next semester: the MD 5-10 elective guided research rotation and the new Principals of Biomedical Research MD 1-4 course.



2. Books and Book Chapters:

• Similar challenges as with review papers, these usually are invited assignments. Networking can help in getting solicited.

• Junior faculty can get help from more senior faculty who get invitation to contribute manuscripts but are not interested. Will require an active approach form the junior faculty and a strong commitment to deliver high quality papers on time.



3. Presentations:

• Will require development of scholarship expertise in a specific area of your field and initiation of networking to get invited to present at conferences or at universities.

• We can promote local conferences/research days etc. with the local Universities to give the junior faculty opportunities for presentations (e.g. the One Health symposium).



4. Abstracts and Professional Development:

• Similar to Presentations, will require development of scholarship expertise in a specific area of your field. There are many conferences in all fields, so you need to research the available conferences in your filed and identify the best fit that will help your further development, medical or didactic.

• We need to identify funding mechanisms and policy for participation in meetings. Accepted abstract should be a minimum requirement.

• Same considerations will guide covering publication fees: Accepted manuscripts should be funded by the school.

•We will also need a strong general letter from the school asking for defraying the publication costs due to our limited size and available funds.

•Besides service to the school (e.g., administrative responsibilities, service on committees etc.) this section can include various outside service activities:

1. Service on journal editorial boards2. Ad hoc review for journals or grants3. Community service involving the school’s missions

Senior faculty can engage the junior faculty in service opportunities they get in reviewing manuscripts etc.
