Dr. Priyadarshan Manohar Faculty Areas of Research: Materials design and materials research, high temperature process design, failure analysis, structure - property relationships, mathematical modeling, thermomechanical process simulation, and engineering education. Student Projects: Development of a materials sustainability app, exploring materials for 3D printing, hot rolling process modeling, HSLA steel composition and process designs for oil and gas pipelines, optimizing properties of advanced high strength steels for automobiles, systems architecture for complex systems, developing new curriculum for service design. Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Dr. Sangho Shim Faculty Areas of Research: Combinatorial and computational optimization with applications in bioinformatics, energy economics and business analytics. Student Projects: Recoloring large scale phylogenetic trees, computational experiment for the probabilistic threshold of correctable noise on biological evolution, partitioning large scale protein-protein interaction networks, cost allocation of wind power transmission lines, conflict graphical threshold of correlation for breaking multicollinearity in regression analysis. Dr. Ergin Erdem Faculty Areas of Research: Automatic identification systems, engineering education, heuristic methods for optimization, optimization problems in military applications, data mining, risk assessment for healthcare operations, operations management in healthcare, 3-D printing. Student Projects: Development of design of experiments based approach for the digital light processing based custom made 3-D printer, forecasting the wind speed based on the weather and wind characteristics such as the wind direction and humidity, scheduling elective and emergency patients in the operating room, optimization in energy management (e.g. deciding on LPG delivery routes). Software Engineering Dr. Sushil Acharya Faculty Areas of Research: Software engineering education, software verification and validation, data mining, neural networks, and enterprise resource planning. Student Projects: Network clusters, parallel processing, distributed systems, client server architectures, webpage redesign, message queuing systems, software testing, google apps, and systems simulation. Dr. Jameela Al-Jaroodi Faculty Areas of Research: Middleware, software engineering, systems software, data analytics, distributed systems and cloud computing. Student Projects: Cloud computing models and applications challenges, the Internet of Things, smart systems (which involve sensor networks, data analytics, mobile computing, autonomous computing, and intelligent systems), challenges and opportunities in cutting edge technologies in healthcare, robotics, sensor networks, and smart cities.
