Dr. Manjappa D Hosamane, aged 56 years, is currently working as a Professor of Economics, in the University of Mysore. He obtained his Ph.D. Degree from Bombay University in the year 1989, specializing in international economics (not very common in Southern Universities), mathematical economics and econometrics. He has served as faculty in the department of economics in three universities: Mangalore, Karnataka, and Mysore and undertaken both teaching and research during his tenures there. This has given him a unique first hand experience and in-depth knowledge of what ails Universities in Karnataka which many academics having served in single institutions do not have. His academic interactions with his professional colleagues giving him useful perspectives on how to put higher education, especially State Universities on a path of academic excellence. He is therefore widely respected by academicians for his professionalism, high sense of professional ethics and the high standards of honesty and integrity he has set wherever he has worked. He has seen as a person who will encourage scholarly work, research and academic excellence and promote quality work in both natural and social sciences.

After obtaining his Master’s Degree in economics with first class, securing 7th rank in the year 1978 from Mysore University he served as an economist in a commercial bank for 10 yrs, in their Department Of Economic Research & Project Evaluation undertaking evaluation work of different development projects implemented through NABARD in India. During his ten years service in a commercial bank, he also served as Chairman of one of the Departments of the bank and has gained rich administrative experience having worked in a financial institution and which has served him well in his academic career. Knowing non-university environments and having worked is so crucial in strengthening administration of academic institutions and making them more transparent and ethical.

As a Commonwealth Fellow in the year 1997, he worked at University of Essex, United Kingdom undertaking research work on Impact of EU Trade on Indian trade. To his credit he has publications in professional journals and edited volumes pertaining to various contemporary issues of economics including macro, micro, development, international trade and finance where he has applied his specalisation in econometric methods.
