Project-A: Thermodynamic database of oxide system:
(i) Expansion of Ti, V and Cr oxide systems. (continuation from
previous consortium project)
- CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-FeO-Fe2O3-MnO-Na2O + Ti oxide (Ti3+, Ti4+)
- CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-FeO-Fe2O3-MnO + Cr oxide (Cr2+, Cr3+, Cr6+)
- CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-FeO-Fe2O3 + V oxide (V2+, 3+, 4+, 5+)
(ii) Development of rare earth oxy-sulfide systems.
- CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-RE2O3-RE2S3
(iii) Development of the database related to the iron ore sintering
process.
- CaO-SiO2-FeO-Fe2O3-MgO-Al2O3 system + SFCA and SFCA-I.
(iv) Development of the database of the Mg-Al-Si-C-N-O system
(v) Solubility of C and H in liquid slag and mold flux

Project-B: Thermodynamic databases for metallic systems:
This is for the development of new steel database covering all current and
future steel grades (low C, stainless steel, high alloy steel, etc.) and even ferro-
alloys. In addition, Galvanizing bath database is going to be expanded.
(i) Expansion to Stainless steels
- Ni, Cr, Ti, Mo, … (both 300 and 400 series).
(ii) Expansion to TRIP steels
- carbide and nitride ppts: (Ti,Nb,Zr,…)(C,N)
(iii) Expansion to Super steels
- BCC and FCC order/disorder phases: Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Ni-Ti
(iv) Galvanizing bath database
- Zn-Al-Fe-Si-Mg + Mn, Cr.

Project-C: Physical properties database for oxide and
metallic systems.Molar volume of liquid slag system was completed in 2015.
(i) Viscosity database for liquid slag- Revision of the viscosity database of the Ti oxide system (Wan-Yi Kim)
- Addition of P2O5 systems(preliminary study done – insufficient data available)
(ii) Thermal conductivity database of liquid slag- Silicate system and oxyfluoride system
(iii) Molar volume and viscosity of liquid metal system- Molar volume and viscosity of liquid metal
for both high alloy steels and galvanizing bath
(iv) Surface tension database for liquid metal system (tentative project)

Project-D: Development of a simple kinetic process
simulation model for the secondary steelmaking process
and continuous casting process.
Using the same FactSage macro simulation approach we have used for other
process simulations, we will develop new models for the Electrical Arc Furnace
(EAF) and Tundish, and we will continuously upgrade the RH degassor and Vacuum
Tank Degassor (VTD) models. In 2019, we will begin to convert the FactSage macro
model to a stand-alone software with a user-friendly interface using ChemApp DLL.
Review and develop slag foaming model.
Develop and insert simplified ferro-alloy dissolution model in process simulation.
