Facts About Today’s MPD Recruiting Drive FACT: Miami Police Officers that have been employed since 2009, make less now in 2015. FACT: The City Manager does not support the police department. What he does support is playing politics in placing inexperienced police officers in command positions to secure votes on the city commission. FACT: Miami Police Officers are underpowered when dealing with the increase in drive by shootings involving automatic weapons such as AK-47 fire. FACT: There is not enough manpower to perform extra training for our current police force. The only training given is the bare bones minimum mandated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. FACT: While the City Manager brags on having over $140 million dollars in reserves and an average of a $40 million dollar surplus year after year, his current offer for restoring benefits is for more concessions by taking more money from our police officers. FACT: When the City Manager talks about our starting pay, he tries to fool everyone that we are competitive by adding extra pay for education. We make less than our neighboring departments that are hiring now with better pay and benefits.
