Courses classified as internships, independent study, clinical, field study, or used a third-party learning platform were removed from the study. From the remaining number, twenty courses were selected: ten with the highest and ten with the lowest levels of student minutes spent in the course. Courses from each group were qualitatively compared to determine similarities with respect to select course design elements: course announcements, number of assessments, types of assessments, Blackboard tool usage, and course calendar. Defining Student Engagement …. in the Online Learning Environment Course Accesses  Accesses are recorded when a student logs onto Blackboard Learn and clicks on the link to the specific Blackboard Learn course. They may not have completed any activities or accessed any content. Interactions Interactions are recorded whenever a student completes an action in the Blackboard Learn site (e.g. opens a folder, downloads a document, etc.). Interactions can be thought of as the number of clicks in the Blackboard course. Minutes Minutes are calculated from when the student accesses the Blackboard Learn course until they log out or access another Blackboard Learn course. Submissions Submissions are recorded when a student submits something to the Blackboard Learn course using a Blackboard tool (e.g., Blackboard  Assignment, Test, Discussion Board item, etc.). Overview

Blackboard© Analytics for Learn was used to identify online courses
