Dear All, Much to the delight of our illustrious FAC Newsletter Editor, Gene Rossel, I only have three items that I’ll be discussing with you in the issue. But I promise not to use the old, tried & true, SOS method of “Tell ‘em what you’re gonna tell ‘em, tell ‘em, and tell ‘em what you told ‘em!!” First and foremost—The Mother of All Reunions II is only a few short months away, and you’ll find five pages in this issue chock full of everything you need to know about it. TREASURER'S REPORT July, 2014 As of 06/01/2014 our current financial position is as follows: Checking: Current Balance - $ 1797.64 Savings: Current Balance - $ 49, 057.03 CD's (2) : Current Balance - $ 100,015.30 This will be the final report of my tour of duty. I’ve been at this job since the fall of 2006. When I took over our bookkeeping was all done by hand on a loose leaf note pad. Today, no matter where your treasurer trav-els, as long as he has an internet connection and some sort of a computer, he can manage your finances in real time. My future replacement has stepped forward and for the past six months I’ve been acting as an “IP” getting him checked out so that he will be ready to go “solo” when we all meet again in FWB during October of 2014. Unless you decide to elect someone else to take the posi-tion, “Trey” Moran (Nail 13) has volunteered to “take the stick”. I’ve sent the BOD approved new laptop computer that I have loaded with all of the tools that Trey will need to do the job. We have been using a combination of “Team Viewer” and the telephone to go through all of the financial exercises he will have to do when he finally takes over. Until he is ready to say “I’ve got the stick” , we will continue to run your finances in parallel. I will continue to be available to him should any question come up in the future. Take special note that both the back page of this news letter and our website now have Trey’s mailing address that you should use to send in any future dues payments or donations you might see fit to make to the Association. Be sure to make your check out to “THE FACA, INC.” (not Bob Gorman or Trey Moran) and mail it to Trey at the address shown. Thanks for all of your support, I plan to fly on your wing and land in formation when the time comes. Bob Gorman, Jake 44

The May 2014 AFM shows Gen Fogleman and Gen McPeak, both Misty FACs, were the only FACs who became AFCS. There were 9 slow FACs who became 4 star generals.

Ken Hinks , [email protected] Michigan finally made available respectable veteran's plates and now I have a 19 TASS plate.

Gilberta Pierson is wr iting a book in Howie's memory and is looking for "Howie stories" and/or personal experiences/funny hap-penings/memories about Howie. She would be thrilled to receive even a few sentences, a paragraph or two, or anything any of you would like to share about your relationship with Howard Pierson. Please email it to Gilberta at [email protected]

Tim Eby, Why it is great to be a pilot, And the winner is……….. watching countless rounds of 23/37/57 MM being shot at you, at night, and ALL missing.

Peter Condon, [email protected], It is time to order your new copies of the "Cleared Hot" books.

Darrel Whitcomb, 2 Apr il was the 42d anniversary of the Bat 21 saga I cannot pass without remembering and saluting all, both US and Vietnamese, who participated in this event. We got Bat 21B and Nail 38B out, but, eleven others and uncounted Vietnamese were lost in the effort.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS

We recommend you make your hotel reservations early. (The Southeast U.S. Regional Harley Hog rally will be in Ft Walton Beach the same weekend. You can always cancel if necessary.)

The 2014 reunion is being held at the beautiful Ramada Plaza Beach Resort on Okaloosa Island, Ft Walton Beach, FL. Two nearby alternative hotels are also available--a new Air Force owned Holiday Inn Resort Hotel and the Emerald Coast Inns and Suites. Each hotel provides a free breakfast and free parking. If you would like to rent a two- or three-bedroom condo type room right next to the Ramada, contact Destin West Vacations, 850-243-3630, or www.destinwest.com and negotiate your best price.

Tell them you are attending the "2014 FAC Reunion" to get our discounted rates, which are also good three days (maybe more) either side of the reunion dates. ARRIVING BY AIR? The closest airpor t is the Nor thwest Flor ida Regional Airpor t at Eglin AFB (www.flyvps.com) served by Delta, American, United , and US Air. Rental cars and airport taxis are available. The Pensacola Intl. Airport is approx 60 miles west and the Panama City Airport is 50 miles east.

DO I NEED A RENTAL CAR? Yes, if you plan to do some local sight-seeing. The Ramada does not provide airport shuttle ser-vice. In 2000 sufficient folks had POVs that we were able to get everyone to Hurlburt and to the Destin Harbor by carpooling. Plus, we were able to give rides back to the NW Florida Regional Airport on Sunday for everyone that needed one. We will use buses for the Naval Museum Tour and for several of the optional tours as indicated on the schedule.
