Facilitating Career Development

This program is designed for individuals who want to learn and apply the principles and practice of professional career coaching to be able to provide career coaching services and help people find greater fulfillment in their careers.

CaCareer Coaches help people with a wide array of career-related goals and challenges. Some seek career coaching because they're stuck in a dead-end job that brings no meaning or purpose to their lives, while others are challenged by the demands of balancing their work lives with their personal lives. Some clients know exactly what they want to do with theitheir lives, but need help finding and executing a plan to get there, while others have languished without a clear calling in life. Career coaching helps people with all of these concerns and more.

A Career Coach, focuses on helping people gain clarity and confidence around the direction they want in their professional careers.

NCDA, since its establishment in 1913, is the premier provider of professional development in the career field. NCDA is the recognized leader in developing standards for the career development profession, for the provision of career counseling programs and services. NCDA works to support the preparation, professional development and recognition of the edueducation and experience of career counselors and specialists, particularly career services providers.

NCDA has prepared over 25,000 Career Services Providers and Facilitators for inter/national certification.

A Career Services Provider, formerly called a Career Development Facilitator, is a person who has completed the Facilitating Career Development Training Program (formerly called the Career Development Facilitator Training Program) and works in any career development setting or who incorporates career development information or skills in their work withwith students, adults, clients, employees, or the public. A Career Services Provider has received in-depth training in the areas of career development in the form of up to 120+ class/instructional hours, provided by a nationally trained and qualified instructor.

This title designates individuals working in a variety of career development settings. A Career Services Provider may serve as a career group facilitator, job search trainer, career resource center coordinator, career coach, career development case manager, intake interviewer, occupational and labor market information resource person, human resource career dedevelopment coordinator, employment/placement specialist, or workforce development staff person.

Note:After the successful completion of this program (FCD -Facilitating Career Devolvement), graduates get a certificate and a license to practice career coaching as CSP (Career Service Provider) ,they can also apply for CCSP (Certified

Career Service Provider) through NCDA.

About CSP® (Career Services Provider) :

The Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) and the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) credentials require understanding and mastery of the competencies listed below.

1. Helping Skills - Be proficient in the basic career facilitating process while including productive interpersonal relationships.2. Labor Market Information and Resources - Understand labor market and occupational information and trends. Be able to use current resources.3.3. Assessment - Comprehend and use (under supervision) both formal and informal career development assessments with emphasis on relating appropriate ones to the population served.4.4. Diverse Populations - Recognize special needs of various groups and adapt services to meet their needs.5. Ethical and Legal Issues - Follow the NCDA Code of Ethics and know current legislative regulations.6.6. Career Development Models - Understand career development theories, models, and techniques as they apply to lifelong development, gender, age, and ethnic background.

7. Employability Skills - Know job search strategies and placement techniques, especially in working with specific groups.8. Training Clients and Peers - Prepare and develop materials for training programs and presentations.99. Program Management/Implementation - Understand career development programs and their implementation, and work as a liaison in collaborative relationships.10. Promotion and Public Relations - Market and promote career development programs with staff and supervisors. 11.11. Technology - Comprehend and use career development computer applications.12. Consultation - Accept suggestions for performance improvement from consultants or supervisors.

Facilitating Career Development training can enhance the skills and knowledge of individuals who work in any type of career development setting.

AsAs a participant, you will receive training in each of the 12 career development competencies. The training includes hands-on and interactive teaching methods and opportunities to interact with colleagues from a variety of work settings.
