FacetWin Installation Procedure

Typical FacetWin installation procedure:

1. Put installation files on UNIX system.

mount installation CDROM (“mount –r /dev/cd0 /mnt”)

or FTP downloaded files from PC to UNIX

2. Run UNIX installation shell script.

as “root” user, run “sh install.sh”

3. Run “setup.exe” Windows client installation program.

via Network Neighborhood (“\\UNIX\FacetWinPC\setup.exe”)

or directly from CDROM in PC

FacetWin Installation Prep

UNIX system must be running TCP/IP properly

Windows systems must be running TCP/IP and to use File & Print Services must have Client for Microsoft Networks installed

Determine workgroup/domain the UNIX server should join

Decide which UNIX directory to install in (need about 6-8 MB)

Decide FacetWin File & Print Services authentication method

FacetWin UNIX Installation

Before installing FacetWin for the first time, you mustRead the "Preparing UNIX Installation Notes" section inthe Installation booklet, the CD help file, or the install.txt file. This will explain how to choose asecurity mode.

Installation is done

Verifying FacetWin Install

First time installation should set up with 30-day, 50-user eval license

Upgrade installations should keep license and configuration intact

WINS server should preload with UNIX hostname and IP address

3 FacetWin daemons should be running (fct_licd, fct_winsd, fct_brwd)

User authentication can be tested from UNIX prompt with “fct_client”

Within minutes UNIX server should appear in Network Neighborhood

Check installation log file (“log.txt”) for warnings or errors

FacetWin Windows Installation

1. Via Network Neighborhood: \\UNIX\FacetWinPC\setup.exe

2. From Windows “Run” Prompt

Start | Run | Open: \\UNIX\FacetWinPC\setup.exe

3. AutoPlay the pretty FacetWin CDROM in PC drive

4. With FTP download from UNIX server

ftp://root@UNIX/usr/facetwin/fwt/setup.exe

5. Or download from the FacetCorp FTP site

ftp://ftp.facetcorp.com/evals/facetwin/fwt/setup.exe

Simply run “setup.exe” on PC and click Next, Next, Next…There are many ways to get “setup.exe” to the PC:
