    Background

Facebook aggressively addresses any instance o bullying or harassment. In addition, we understand

the unique challenges that LGBT teens ace. In 2010 we ormed a Network o Support with leading

LGBT groups to help send the message that hateul speech wont be tolerated on Facebook.

Facebook is committed to ostering a sae and trustedenvironment where people can connect and sharecomortably. But sometimes, just like in the oine world, people can say oensive or even hateul things online.

Hateul comments violate Facebooks policies, and i theyare posted, people on Facebook are quick to report themand we are quick to respond.

We take our Statement o Rights and Responsibilities veryseriously and react switly to reports o inappropriatecontent and behavior. The goal o these policies is to strikea delicate balance between giving people the reedom toexpress their opinions and viewpointseven those thatmay be controversial to someand maintaining a robustsaety environment.

We also have a comprehensive reporting system that

enables everyone on the site to report oensive ordangerous content when they see it. In doing so, we haveeectively created the worlds largest neighborhoodwatch program - a system o community policing thatallows people to protect those around them.

But its not just about removing bad content, its also aboutpreventing it. Our real name culture is one o Facebooksmost important saeguards. People have to be their realselves on Facebook and associate their actions with theirtrue names and identities. This advances an environmentwhere people are accountable or their actions. To promotethis culture, weve developed technical systems to ag and

block potential ake identities. We believe that educating people about the damagingimpact o hateul remarks is a responsibility shared byparents, educators, advocacy organizations, and serviceslike Facebook. We take steps to reduce the likelihood oit happening in the frst place. Were concerned about anyabusive behavior and promote an environment whereeveryone on Facebook can connect and share comortably.
