    Background

We believe in addressing saety issues proactively. Building a trusted environment is undamental to

our mission and to ensuring a positive experience or people who use our site.Building a Trusted Environment

Nothing is more important to Facebook than keepingpeople sae. We believe online saety is a sharedresponsibility, which is why we partner with organizationsglobally to create the most eective saety environmentpossible. Facebook has a real-name culture where peopleassociate their actions with their true names and identitiesin ront o their riends and amily, which leads to greateraccountability. It is a violation o our policies to use a akename or operate under a alse identity, and we encouragepeople to report anyone they think is doing this. We

provide a structured and consistent environment withclear rules and prominent, convenient reporting buttons.

We also leverage the hundreds o millions o people onFacebook to keep an eye out or oensive or potentiallydangerous content. We encourage them to report thatcontent to us, and to discuss it with parents, teachers, andothers in the community who can help. We recognize theharm that can result i people are bullied online, so wetake steps to reduce the likelihood o it happening and todiminish its impact. We strive to promote an environmentwhere everyone can connect and share comortably.

    Robust Educational Resources

Redesigned our Family Safety Center in April 2011(acebook.com/saety) with new multimedia resourcestailored to parents, educators, teens, and law enorcement.

Created a Safety Page (acebook.com/bsaety), nowwith over 650,000 fans, to provide dynamic safety contentdirectly to peoples News Feeds.

Commissioned downloadable guides for educators andguidance counselors on best practices or using Facebookin schools. These are available in our Family Safety Center.

Easy to Use Reporting Tools Its easy to ag inappropriate behavior using Report linkson virtually every Facebook page, and users can blockpeople who post hurtul content.

Our professional investigators work around the clockto review urgent reports, usually within 24 hours, andescalate them to law enforcement as needed. Reports ofharassment receive a quick response and we ensure thathigh-priority reports are addressed frst.

People on Facebook have pride of ownership in theirexperience. They speak up when they see an injustice, and in most cases we get reports immediately aterinappropriate behavior has occurred.

In March 2011, Facebook pioneered a tool called SocialReporting, which allows people to address both the onlineand ofine impacts of bullying.

Social reporting enables people to report problematiccontent to Facebook, so that it can be removedimmediately, and at the same time report the content totrusted friends or adults who may understand the ofinecontext o the situation and be able to assist.

This tool helps people communicate about and resolveissues privately and quickly. While the tool is designed oranyone, teens fnd this system especially useul they are10% more likely than adults to use it. More information:acebook.com/report.
